That label means Valve has not completed or published a compatibility review; it does not confirm that the game fails. Install the Steam version, try Steam’s default configuration first, and use the current store compatibility details and developer patch notes if anything goes wrong. MythicOwl, the developer, says it extensively tested the game on Deck and saw a steady 60 fps on high settings through most of the game, but that is a developer report—not a Valve Verified rating, independent benchmark or guaranteed result.
What you need before installing
This guide assumes you already own a Steam Deck and a Steam copy of Truckful. The Steam listing shows the game as available for SteamOS + Linux and gives it a release date of October 9, 2026. The listing’s Linux requirements make the game a plausible Deck installation, but they are not a model-by-model Valve guarantee and do not change the Deck badge from Unknown.

Understand the Unknown compatibility badge
Valve’s compatibility label is based on a review of controller input, display legibility, seamlessness and system support. Valve describes the review as ongoing; ratings can change as games and Deck features are updated. For Truckful, Unknown means that no completed review is currently shown on the Store or Library page. It is different from a badge stating that a title is unsupported, and it should not be treated as evidence that the game will not launch.

- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)

- Valve review status: Unknown at the time covered by this guide.
- Store platform listing: SteamOS + Linux is listed, with a 64-bit processor requirement and 2 GB of storage.
- Developer testing: MythicOwl reports extensive Deck testing and steady 60 fps on high settings through most of the game.
- Your actual result: performance, controls and stability can vary with the Deck’s SteamOS build, game updates and the area of the game you are playing.
Storage and network space
Steam lists 2 GB of available storage as the minimum for the SteamOS + Linux version. Treat that as the game’s published minimum, not as the amount of free space you should leave on the Deck. Updates, shader data and Steam’s temporary download files need working room. Before pressing Install, make sure the target drive has more than the listed minimum and that your network connection can complete the download. If the install is on a removable drive, leave additional headroom for future patches rather than filling the device to its limit.
Steam Deck requirements and what they mean
The following figures are the requirements shown on the Steam listing. They describe the game’s published platform targets, not a separate certification for every Steam Deck model.
| Platform or tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics memory/GPU | API | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windows minimum | Not stated in the listing excerpt | 4 GB RAM | 2 GB VRAM; GeForce 900 series or newer | DirectX 10 | 2 GB |
| SteamOS + Linux minimum | 64-bit processor at 2.4 GHz | 4 GB RAM | 2 GB VRAM; GeForce 900 series or newer | Not stated | 2 GB |
| Windows recommended | Not stated in the listing excerpt | 8 GB RAM | 3 GB VRAM; GeForce GTX 1060 or newer | DirectX 12 | 3 GB |
Do not read the desktop GPU names in this table as a direct comparison with the Deck’s integrated graphics. They are the store’s Windows requirement language. For a Deck owner, the practical checks are whether the game installs, whether its controls and text are usable, and whether your chosen frame-rate target remains stable in the places you play.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to install Truckful on Steam Deck
- Open the Library. Press the Steam button, choose Library, and select Truckful from your games. You can also open its Steam store page and choose the install control there.
- Choose the install location. Select the internal drive or an inserted storage card with sufficient free space. The listing’s minimum is 2 GB; leave extra room for updates and shader data.
- Start the download. Confirm the install and wait for Steam to finish downloading and processing the game. Avoid suspending the Deck or removing the storage device while the install is in progress.
- Launch with the default configuration. When the game is installed, select Play. Do not force a particular Proton version as a first step. The available information does not establish that a special Proton override is required, and the store lists a SteamOS + Linux build.
- Let the first launch finish. Steam may perform first-run setup or shader processing. Give it time before deciding that the game has frozen, especially immediately after an update.
Steam’s compatibility layer, Proton, is relevant when a game runs through that layer. If the default launch fails, open the game’s properties and inspect its Compatibility details, then check the newest official patch information. Change one setting at a time and record what you changed so you can return to the known default configuration.
First launch: controls, display and input
Use the Deck controls first
Start with the built-in controls and the game’s default layout. The launch-period developer patch added PlayStation controller support, but the announcement did not document a Deck-specific remapping procedure. That means you should not assume a special community layout or a particular remap is required. If an action is not responding, test the same action in another menu, restart the game, and then review the current Steam input settings before making a custom layout.

Mouse input in menus
The launch-period patch also enabled mouse control in the main menu. This can help when a menu item is awkward to select with a gamepad, but it does not establish that every in-game interface is designed for a mouse. Use the trackpads or touchscreen only as a practical fallback; keep the standard gamepad controls available for driving and gameplay.
Check legibility and layout before a long session
Valve’s review considers display legibility as well as input. On your first launch, open the main menus and verify that text, prompts and selection highlights are readable at the Deck’s native display size. If a menu is difficult to navigate, try the game’s own display or UI options before changing system-wide scaling. Record which setting solved the problem so an update can be diagnosed quickly if it returns.

MythicOwl has said it tested Truckful extensively on Steam Deck, including demonstrations at PAX East and PAX West, and reported “a steady 60fps on high settings throughout most of the game.” The studio also said that 30 fps with high details should be achievable on the lower-end devices described by its requirements. These are the developer’s statements, not an independent benchmark, a statistical study or a promise that every scene will hold a fixed frame rate.
| Evidence | What it supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| MythicOwl’s Deck testing report | The developer believes high settings and a steady 60 fps are attainable through most of the game. | It is not an independently measured average, a minimum frame rate, or a guarantee for every Deck, build or area. |
| Developer statement about lower-end devices | The studio expects 30 fps and high details to be achievable on lower-end hardware described in its requirements. | It does not define a Deck-specific preset, battery target or frame-time result. |
| Valve badge: Unknown | No completed Valve compatibility review is currently displayed. | It does not mean the game is confirmed broken or unplayable. |
Use the developer figure as an expectation to test, not as a setting you must force. Start at the game’s default or high preset, play beyond the opening area, and decide whether you prefer a 60 fps target or a steadier 30 fps target. A frame-rate limit can make uneven performance feel more consistent, but the correct choice depends on your tolerance for dips, battery use and visual detail. No independent frame-rate measurements are established for this guide, so do not treat an on-screen counter from one session as a universal result.
Launch troubleshooting
The Play button returns to the Library
- Restart the game and the Deck, then try the default launch again.
- Confirm that Steam finished the download and any first-run processing.
- Open the game’s properties and check the current compatibility details. Do not begin by forcing a random Proton release; the available guidance does not identify a required override.
- Check the newest official Truckful patch announcement and the Steam listing for changed compatibility notes.
- Write down the game build, SteamOS version and the exact symptom before seeking further help. Those details can change the correct workaround after an update.
The game launches but input is wrong or doubled
A launch-period patch fixed a double-input bug that affected cargo rotation and skill installation. If you see a similar symptom, first restart after confirming that the current update is installed. Test with the Deck’s built-in controls and remove temporary custom mappings so you can determine whether the issue is in the game or the input layer. Because later patches may have changed the behavior, compare your build with the newest official notes before applying a workaround.

A menu cannot be selected
Try the standard buttons, trackpad or touchscreen, and remember that mouse control in the main menu was added in the launch-period patch. If the pointer works in the menu but not during play, that is a useful distinction to include in a support report. Avoid assuming that a community layout is an official fix; the patch announcement did not specify a Deck-only remapping procedure.

Text or interface elements are hard to read
Check the game’s display and UI options, then restart to see whether the change persists. Valve’s compatibility review includes display legibility, so this is part of the experience that can affect a future badge. Keep notes on the resolution, scaling and interface setting that produced the clearest result.
You encounter a softlock
The launch-period patch announcement listed softlocks in some areas as a known issue at that time. That note is dated and may no longer describe the current build. If the game stops progressing, record the location, quest or action that caused it, restart once, and check the latest official patch notes before repeating the section. Do not assume that a workaround published for an older build still applies after an update.

Compatibility information and game behavior are both volatile. Before changing system settings, use this short check:
- Confirm the installed game build in Steam.
- Confirm the Deck’s SteamOS state and whether a system update is waiting.
- Read the newest official developer announcement for launch, input and softlock fixes.
- Review the game’s current Steam compatibility details instead of relying on an older screenshot or forum post.
- Reproduce the problem with the default configuration once, then document any change you make.
A useful report includes the Deck model, SteamOS version, game build, whether the game is installed internally or on removable storage, the input method, the exact menu or area, and whether a restart changed the result. This information is more actionable than a general statement that the game “doesn’t work.”

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
Should you use a Proton override?
Not as a first step. The sources available for this setup do not establish a Truckful-specific Proton version that owners must force. The Steam listing includes SteamOS + Linux requirements, and the developer reports Deck testing, so the sensible sequence is default configuration first, current compatibility details second, and a carefully documented override only if a current source identifies one for your build.
If you do test an alternative compatibility setting after a failed default launch, change only that setting, restart the game, and record the result. If it makes the game worse, return to the default and re-test. This prevents a temporary experiment from becoming an unexplained permanent configuration.
Deck-specific expectations in one view
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Can you install it from Steam? | Yes. The Steam listing offers the game and lists SteamOS + Linux requirements. |
| Is it Valve Verified? | No such status is established here; the listing’s current Deck badge is Unknown. |
| Does Unknown mean it will not run? | No. It means Valve has not completed or published its compatibility review. |
| How much storage is listed? | 2 GB minimum for the SteamOS + Linux listing; leave additional free space for updates and shader data. |
| Is 60 fps guaranteed? | No. MythicOwl reports steady 60 fps on high settings through most of the game, but that is a developer statement rather than an independent result or guarantee. |
| Do you need a special Proton version? | Not according to the information available for this guide. Try the default configuration first. |
| Are Deck remaps documented? | No Deck-specific remapping procedure is documented in the cited launch-period announcement. |
Recommended setup sequence
For the least confusing first session, follow this order: install from the Steam Library; leave the compatibility setting at its default; launch with the Deck’s built-in controls; check menu legibility and input; play long enough to reach more than the opening area; then decide whether you want a 60 fps or 30 fps target. If something fails, restart, capture the game build and SteamOS state, and consult current Steam compatibility details and official patch notes before forcing a workaround.
This approach reflects what is actually known: Truckful is available for Steam Deck installation, its Valve review badge is currently Unknown, and the developer reports encouraging Deck performance. Your own Deck session remains the final check for controls, frame pacing and stability.
