To share Apple Arcade with a child, first set up Family Sharing, then subscribe to Arcade or Apple One if nobody in the group already has access. Add the child using their own Apple Account, and configure Ask to Buy and Screen Time separately: Arcade sharing provides access to the subscription, not a child account or parental controls.
What you need before you start
- An adult organizer for the Family Sharing group. Apple allows an organizer plus up to five additional family members.
- Each person, including the child, should use their own Apple Account.
- A supported device and a country or region where Apple Arcade is available. Game availability and compatibility can vary.
You do not need to buy a new device or controller to set up family access. A controller may be useful for playing some games, but it is not a setup requirement.
Set up Family Sharing
Family Sharing is the mechanism that lets the subscription reach other family members. The organizer can invite members and create or add a child account to the group. Apple says each member uses their own Apple Account; this keeps the child’s access separate from an adult’s account.
On the organizer’s iPhone or iPad, open Settings and select the Family option to manage the group. Follow the on-screen prompts to invite family members or add a child. Labels and available options can differ by software version. Apple recommends keeping family devices updated so settings can sync.

Subscribe to Apple Arcade or Apple One
If nobody in the Family Sharing group already subscribes, start an Apple Arcade subscription. On a current iPhone, open the Apple Games app, tap Arcade, tap the subscription button, and follow the prompts. You may be asked to sign in, provide billing details, and agree to the terms. Apple also describes subscribing through the Arcade tab in the App Store on supported devices. Service availability varies by region.
If the family already has Apple One with Arcade included, a separate Arcade subscription is not needed for family access.

Share Arcade with family members
A person who subscribes to Apple Arcade or Apple One can share Arcade through Family Sharing with up to five additional family members. Members do not need to switch on a separate sharing setting. After the subscription begins, each member can open the Games app using their own Apple Account to access the shared subscription.
Set up child access and purchase approval
Use the child’s Apple Account in the family group rather than sharing an adult account. To ask for approval for eligible downloads and purchases, an organizer or parent/guardian can configure Ask to Buy on a current iPhone or iPad:

- Tap Family, then the child’s name.
- Tap Apps & Websites > Restrictions > Ask to Buy.
- Turn on Require Purchase Approval.
Apple’s labels and menu locations may vary by software version. Ask to Buy applies to eligible downloads and purchases; it is not a control for total play time or every aspect of game content. Age rules and defaults vary by country or region.
Use Screen Time for broader parental controls
Set Screen Time separately to manage how a child uses their device. Apple lists controls for app and website activity, communication, device-use times, and content and privacy restrictions. These settings address broader use and access limits, while Ask to Buy prompts an adult to approve eligible transactions. Choose the controls that suit your child and device; options can vary with software version and region.

Check or manage a family subscription
On iPhone, check an individual subscription at Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Apple Arcade or Apple One. Family subscription settings are at Settings > Family > Subscriptions. If a member cannot find Arcade, confirm they are in the family group and review the subscription shown there; regional availability and Screen Time content restrictions can also affect what appears.
If someone joins a family group that already subscribes, their individual subscription will not renew on its next billing date, and they can use the family subscription instead. If the family subscription is cancelled, downloaded Arcade games cannot be played while access is inactive. Apple says resubscribing may restore access to gameplay data, although data may not be supported if too much time has passed.
