Choose the right kind of donation
First decide who should receive the money. A creator tip goes to you as support for your channel; it is not automatically a charitable donation and should not be presented as tax-deductible. A nonprofit fundraiser sends contributions to an eligible organization through YouTube Giving.
- Personal creator tips: Use a tip page such as Streamlabs’ and connect a supported payment account. You can share the page link on your channel and in stream descriptions.
- Nonprofit fundraising: If your channel and fundraiser qualify, add a YouTube Giving fundraiser to the video or livestream. Viewers can donate through the fundraiser button; this is not a general-purpose creator tipping option.
No physical product is required for either setup. These are account, payment-provider, and link or platform configuration tasks.
Set up a Streamlabs tip page for card payments
Streamlabs’ official credit-card setup article says to connect a PayPal Business account in Streamlabs tip settings. Its separate Stripe tipping option has distinct availability and requirements, so do not assume it will appear for every creator. Follow the payment option shown in your current account.

- Open Streamlabs and go to Tipping. In the Streamlabs dashboard, select Tipping to start connecting a payment option.
- Connect PayPal Business for the documented card route. Complete PayPal’s account prompts and any verification it requires. Streamlabs’ quick guide distinguishes PayPal Business, which it says can accept credit cards (and Venmo in the US), from PayPal Standard, which it describes as PayPal-only. The dedicated card-tipping article specifies PayPal Business for credit-card tipping. Available methods depend on provider and location. - Configure the tip page. Set the currency, minimum tip, suggested amounts, and page appearance to suit your channel. Save the settings and copy the tip-page URL.
- Publish the link where viewers will see it. Streamlabs recommends adding the link as a Twitch or Kick panel link, and to YouTube channel information and livestream descriptions. Check each link as a viewer before you promote it.
- Test the payment route before going live. Confirm that the page opens, the listed payment methods suit your intended audience, and your processor account is verified. A page link alone does not guarantee that a payment method is available in every country.
Streamlabs says it does not take a cut of credit-card tips and that tips are subject to payment-processing fees. For PayPal Business tipping, it says payments go directly through PayPal from donor to creator rather than being held by Streamlabs; PayPal may sometimes require the account owner to manually accept a payment. Understand Streamlabs’ separate Stripe option and its costs
Streamlabs also describes a separate Stripe card-tipping option. Its FAQ, dated October 20, 2025, says setup includes a checking account and identity verification, and sets an age requirement of 18 or older. Availability and fees can depend on the creator’s and donor’s countries; check the current account prompts and processor terms before sharing the page.

The same FAQ lists the following supported streamer countries for that Stripe option: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. If your country is not on the list, Streamlabs says to use another available payment option. The FAQ lists a standard card-processing fee of 2.9% plus US$0.30, varying by streamer and donor country, and a 2% currency-exchange fee if a donor pays in a currency other than the onboarding currency. Plan for chargebacks and privacy
Streamlabs’ October 20, 2025 Stripe FAQ says card tips can be charged back. It describes a US$15 chargeback fee plus the original amount being deducted; the US$15 is returned if the chargeback is won. The creator must submit evidence promptly. Review the current processor terms so you know how disputes are handled.

Payment providers may show merchant details on a donor’s card statement. Streamlabs recommends using a PO box or business address to avoid a personal address appearing, but this does not guarantee what every bank statement will show. Check the privacy and statement-display rules of the payment provider you choose. Streamlabs’ tip page is described as free, but payment processor charges still apply. Use YouTube Giving for an eligible nonprofit
YouTube Giving is for raising money for eligible nonprofits, not for collecting ordinary personal tips. YouTube Help lists these creator setup criteria: the channel must be based in an available location, have at least 10,000 subscribers, be a YouTube Partner Program member, and not be designated as made for kids. Regional availability applies, and YouTube notes that some channels may see fundraising outside these criteria; check YouTube Studio rather than assuming eligibility.

- Check eligibility in YouTube Studio. Confirm that your channel and intended nonprofit can use the fundraiser feature in your region.
- Add a fundraiser to the livestream. For Live Chat Donations, attach the fundraiser to the livestream and enable live chat. Eligible viewers can use the Donate button in chat.
- Monitor activity in Live Control Room. YouTube says creators can see donation activity there. Super Chat and Super Stickers are turned off on livestreams using Live Chat Donations to avoid confusion.
YouTube says 100% of donations made to an eligible nonprofit through YouTube Giving go to that nonprofit because YouTube covers credit-card transaction fees. It also says voluntary nonprofit donations are non-refundable. These terms apply to YouTube Giving, not personal creator tips. See YouTube Giving FAQs and Donate to a nonprofit with YouTube Giving.

Troubleshoot before promoting the link
- Credit cards are not offered on the tip page: Confirm that you connected PayPal Business rather than PayPal Standard for Streamlabs’ documented card route. Check the payment choices currently shown in your account and your provider’s regional availability.
- A viewer cannot use a listed payment method: Payment methods can vary by country and provider. Ask the viewer to check the options displayed on the payment page, and do not promise a method that is not shown to them.
- The tip link is missing or does not open: Copy the saved tip-page URL again, update the channel panel or description, then open the published link while signed out or in a viewer account.
- A PayPal payment appears pending: Streamlabs says PayPal may sometimes require the account owner to accept the payment manually. Check PayPal for an action request.
- A Stripe card option is unavailable: Check whether the creator’s country is supported for that option and whether identity and bank-account onboarding is complete. Streamlabs advises using another available payment option if the country is not supported.
- A YouTube Donate button does not appear: Check fundraiser eligibility and regional availability, confirm the fundraiser is attached to the livestream, and ensure live chat is enabled for Live Chat Donations.

Do I need a physical donation device or card reader?
No. The setup described here uses payment-account onboarding and a web link or YouTube fundraiser button; no physical product is required.
Can I call a personal tip a charitable donation?
No. A creator tip and a donation to an eligible nonprofit are different payment flows; use YouTube Giving for the nonprofit fundraiser.
