You can run a pre-recorded playlist as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast with OBS on Windows: confirm your channel is eligible, connect OBS to an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, configure the playlist and audio, then test and monitor the broadcast. This is a do-it-yourself setup, not a guarantee that one PC and internet connection will stay online without interruption. Plan separately for power, connectivity, restarts and local recordings.
Before you set up the stream
Check YouTube eligibility
YouTube’s current livestreaming guidance requires a verified channel, no livestreaming restriction in the past 90 days, and that the person livestreaming be at least 16. Check your status in YouTube Studio before building the scene. YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility requirements explain the platform rules.
Check the playlist’s rights and monetization implications
Make sure you have the necessary rights to every video, image and audio track in the broadcast, including music. YouTube’s terms require the creator to hold the rights needed to livestream the material and to comply with applicable laws. YouTube’s Terms of Service set out those obligations.
A playlist being technically streamable does not mean it is eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams and require original, authentic content; repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before relying on a loop as a source of revenue.

Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room.
- Create or select an encoder stream. Copy its server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream and enter the server URL and stream key, or select the appropriate YouTube service if OBS offers it for your setup.
- Keep the stream key private: it works like a password. If someone else gets it, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- When you start the encoder, check the preview in Live Control Room. If the broadcast is scheduled, review the preview and then choose Go live when ready.

Build the playlist scene in OBS on Windows
Let OBS choose a starting configuration
- Install OBS Studio and open it. From the top menu, choose Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard and follow the prompts. This gives you a starting point based on your PC and network; it does not guarantee that a 24/7 stream will remain stable.
- Create a scene for the broadcast. Add the video playlist as a media source, then add any legitimate artwork, labels or other visual elements you want viewers to see.
- In the Audio Mixer, play a sample and confirm that the relevant audio meter moves. If it does not, check the media source’s audio options and the selected audio devices.
- Open Settings → Video and choose an output resolution and frame rate your computer and upload connection can sustain. Higher resolution and 60 FPS demand more from the encoder and network than lower settings; there is no single setting that suits every PC and connection.

Check whether the PC can handle the workload
OBS lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic Windows requirements, but meeting those requirements does not guarantee streaming capability. CPU and GPU load varies with encoder choice, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Hardware encoding can reduce CPU workload by using specialized GPU components; performance and image quality depend on the hardware and settings. Set the encoder values and test the complete path
Use YouTube’s recommended encoder basics
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds. Apply those values in OBS’s output and encoder settings, then choose a bitrate that fits the actual upload capacity and PC. YouTube’s guide includes format-specific recommendations, but a bitrate that works for one resolution and frame rate may not suit another. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guide rather than treating one number as universal.
Test with the real scene and connection
- Run an upload speed test on the connection and leave headroom beyond the selected stream bitrate. A speed-test result is a snapshot, not a promise of sustained upload capacity.
- Test the playlist with representative motion and audio, not just a static desktop. Confirm the scene displays correctly, audio meters move, and the local recording (if enabled) is growing.
- Start the encoder and inspect YouTube Live Control Room’s stream preview and health indicator. Watch for dropped frames, missing audio or a source that stops advancing.
- In OBS, review Settings → Advanced for automatic reconnect options. Enable and test reconnect behavior if it suits your setup, but treat it as a recovery aid rather than a guarantee of uninterrupted availability.
OBS recommends testing for a few minutes before a first stream. YouTube also advises testing and monitoring stream health; its livestreaming tips cover connection and monitoring practices.

Plan around interruptions and YouTube archives
A single 24/7 broadcast may not be saved as a complete replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If you need a replay, schedule shorter live sessions and record a local backup. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
Make a continuity and recording plan
A PC-based setup depends on the computer, power, network, storage and OBS all continuing to work. Arrange a way to notice and respond to a frozen playlist, lost connection, encoder failure, full disk or power interruption. Check available disk space before enabling local recording, and verify the resulting files rather than assuming they are intact. The official setup guidance does not certify a Windows PC or a particular internet connection as a high-availability broadcast system.

If continuous operation matters, decide how often someone will check the broadcast, who can restart it, and whether shorter sessions better match your archive needs. The reviewed platform guidance does not establish a special India-only OBS configuration or an India-specific upload-speed target. Check the requirements applicable to your content and use.

- YouTube receives no video: Confirm OBS is connected to the intended server URL and stream key, that the encoder is actually started, and that the scene has a visible source. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- The preview appears but the broadcast is not public: Check Live Control Room’s scheduled-stream workflow and select Go live when the preview is ready.
- Video stutters or stream health degrades: Check YouTube’s health indicator and OBS statistics, then reduce bitrate, resolution or frame rate, or simplify the scene. Retest with the actual playlist and allow more upload headroom.
- Audio is missing: Confirm the source’s audio is enabled, the right device is selected, and the Audio Mixer meter moves during playback. Check the stream preview before relying on the broadcast.
- The playlist stops advancing: Check the media source and playlist configuration, then watch a full transition between items during testing. A continuous broadcast needs monitoring for a source that freezes or ends unexpectedly.
- OBS does not recover after a disconnect: Review and test automatic reconnect settings, then verify the encoder reconnects in YouTube Live Control Room. Reconnect cannot fix an ongoing power, network or hardware failure.
- The full broadcast is missing from the archive: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use shorter sessions when a YouTube replay matters and make a local recording backup.
- Local recording stops or is incomplete: Check free disk space and inspect the saved file. Recording alongside streaming adds storage and system workload, so test both together before leaving the PC unattended.
