Keep WooCommerce’s assigned Cart and Checkout pages in place: One Page Checkout does not replace them, and the standard Checkout page may still be needed for receipts, order confirmation, and gateways that require the normal flow.

If you only need a conventional checkout page, use WooCommerce’s Checkout block or the classic [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode instead. The block route requires payment gateways that declare Checkout Block support; the shortcode route can be the safer compatibility choice for some extensions and gateways.

What WooCommerce calls “one-page checkout”
WooCommerce One Page Checkout puts product selection and checkout forms on a single Product, Post, Page, or custom post type. A customer can choose the product, add or remove items, enter checkout details, and pay without being sent through separate product, cart, and checkout screens.
That is different from placing the standard checkout on a page. The core Checkout block and the [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode render checkout fields, totals, shipping choices, and payment methods for the current cart; they do not, by themselves, create a product-selection catalogue on that same page.

There are therefore three practical implementations:
- Official One Page Checkout extension: combines a defined product selection with checkout on a sales or product page.
- Core Checkout block: manages a normal checkout page in the block editor.
- Classic checkout shortcode: renders the conventional checkout flow when shortcode or extension compatibility is the priority.
Choose the first option when the buying decision and payment form should live together. Choose one of the latter two when products are already in the cart and you simply need a checkout page.

Before changing the front-end experience, open your WooCommerce settings and confirm that Cart and Checkout pages are assigned. One Page Checkout is an additional route, not a replacement for those pages.
- The standard Checkout page is used for receipts and order-confirmation flows.
- Some payment gateways still require the normal cart and checkout sequence.
- A conventional checkout page gives you a fallback when a one-page layout, gateway, or custom template fails.
Leave the assigned pages published even if most customers use a one-page offer. Do not delete the Checkout page’s [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode or its Checkout block unless you have deliberately replaced it with the equivalent supported checkout component.
Choose the implementation before you build

All three approaches should coexist with the assigned Cart and Checkout pages. The difference is where the customer chooses products and which rendering system handles the checkout form.
Set up the official One Page Checkout extension
1. Install and activate the extension
Install and activate the official WooCommerce One Page Checkout extension in WordPress. After activation, the extension adds One Page Checkout controls to product editing and enables the [woocommerce_one_page_checkout] shortcode.
Keep the regular Cart and Checkout assignments intact while you install it. Activation does not automatically convert every product or replace the existing checkout page.

2. Enable one-page checkout on an individual product
- Edit the product that should have its own one-page purchase experience.
- Open the product’s Product data panel.
- Enable the One Page Checkout option.
- Save or update the product, then open its public page in a logged-out browser window.
The add-to-order behavior remains on the product page, and other items already in the cart remain visible. This is useful for a focused offer where the product description, variations or options, and payment form should be on one URL.
3. Create a dedicated one-page offer with the shortcode
For a landing page, post, or custom post type, add the shortcode below in the page editor:
[woocommerce_one_page_checkout]With no product IDs supplied, the extension determines which products can be displayed according to its product and catalogue rules. To control the selection explicitly, pass a comma-separated list of product IDs:
[woocommerce_one_page_checkout product_ids="30,45,12"]Replace those example numbers with the IDs of your own products. The IDs are the product records WooCommerce uses; they are not SKU values, slugs, or prices. If you need a fixed bundle or a short list of paid options, explicitly listing IDs prevents unrelated catalogue items from appearing.
4. Pick a built-in template
The template attribute controls how the product selector is presented. Use one of the supported values:
product-listfor a list presentation.product-tablefor a table presentation.product-singlefor a single-product layout.pricing-tablefor a pricing-table presentation.
For example:
[woocommerce_one_page_checkout product_ids="30,45,12" template="pricing-table"]The product IDs and template are independent. You can keep the same product set and change only the presentation while testing which layout best fits the page.
5. Use a custom template when the built-ins are insufficient
Create the custom template file in the active theme’s /woocommerce/checkout/ directory, then pass the matching template value in the shortcode. The value must match the template filename expected by the extension. If the file is named incorrectly, stored in another theme, or uploaded to the wrong directory, the custom layout will not load.

Prefer a child theme for custom files so a parent-theme update does not overwrite them. After changing a template, test both an empty cart and a cart that already contains another item.
6. Add copy around the shortcode
Content before or after the shortcode can explain the offer, state terms and conditions, or provide delivery information. Keep the checkout form itself intact and avoid placing a second One Page Checkout shortcode on the same page. WooCommerce documents that only one One Page Checkout shortcode works per page.
A simple page structure is:
- Offer heading and concise product explanation.
- One One Page Checkout shortcode with the intended IDs and template.
- Terms, contact instructions, or fulfilment notes below the form.
Use the core Checkout block instead
The core Checkout block is the right route when you want a standard checkout page managed in the block editor rather than product selection and checkout combined in one sales page.
- Create or edit the page that should serve as checkout.
- Insert the Checkout block in the block editor.
- In WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced, designate that page as the Checkout page.
- Review the block’s checkout fields, order totals, shipping or local-pickup controls, and payment-method area.
- Place a test product in the cart and confirm that the block displays the expected totals and payment methods.
New WooCommerce installations from version 8.3 use Cart and Checkout Blocks by default. Existing stores may still use shortcode pages, and a shortcode can be preferable when an extension or gateway has better compatibility with that flow.
A block can show only payment methods exposed by active, block-compatible gateways. Installing or activating a gateway is not enough if that gateway does not declare support for the Checkout block; the method will not appear in the block’s payment list.
Use the classic [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode
The classic shortcode is for a conventional checkout page. Add it to the page assigned as Checkout:
[woocommerce_checkout]This shortcode displays checkout for the current cart. It does not provide the product-selection templates, product ID filtering, or same-page add-to-order behavior supplied by One Page Checkout.

Use this route when a gateway or extension expects the shortcode checkout, when a block-compatible version is unavailable, or when you are maintaining an established shortcode-based store. Keep the Cart page and the assigned Checkout page published so receipts, confirmations, and fallback flows continue to work.

How product selection and visibility affect the result
Product IDs must be valid
If a shortcode includes product_ids, verify every number against an existing WooCommerce product. A typo or an ID from a deleted product can leave the selector incomplete or empty.
Stock status matters
Products that are out of stock will not behave like purchasable choices. Check stock status, purchasability, and any product options before diagnosing the shortcode itself.
Hidden products need explicit IDs
Catalog visibility can prevent a product from being displayed when the extension is selecting products normally. A hidden product appears only when its ID is explicitly specified. This lets you keep an offer out of normal catalogue pages while still using it in a controlled one-page checkout.
Existing cart items remain relevant
On a product-level One Page Checkout page, other items already in the customer’s cart remain visible. Test the page with an empty cart and with a pre-populated cart so you know whether the intended offer can be combined with existing items.

Payment gateways and checkout compatibility
One Page Checkout is intended to work with gateways that use WooCommerce’s normal payment section. That does not guarantee that every gateway supports every one-page arrangement. Some gateways still require the standard Cart and Checkout pages, so retain those pages and test the gateway’s complete redirect, payment, and confirmation sequence.
For the Checkout block, the deciding factor is block support. Open the block’s payment-method list and verify that each required gateway appears. If a method is absent, confirm that the gateway is active and declares Checkout Block support; changing the page layout alone will not make an unsupported gateway appear.

Run payment tests in the gateway’s appropriate test or sandbox mode when available, then verify the customer-facing receipt and the order’s status in WooCommerce. Do not treat a visible payment button as proof that the return and confirmation flow works.
Test the page before publishing it
Use a private browser window or a test customer account. The following sequence catches the common failures without changing your live catalogue:

- Open the page with an empty cart and confirm that the intended product selector or checkout form loads.
- Select each product or option that the page is supposed to sell.
- Change quantities and remove an item; confirm that totals update and the page remains usable.
- Add an unrelated product through the normal shop flow, return to the one-page offer, and verify that existing cart contents are handled as expected.
- Enter valid billing and shipping details, then check that required fields and shipping or local-pickup choices appear.
- Confirm every required payment gateway is visible.
- Complete a test order and follow the return, receipt, and order-confirmation screens.
- Open the order in WooCommerce and verify the line items, totals, taxes or shipping values configured for your store, and payment status.
- Repeat the visit on a phone-sized viewport and with keyboard navigation to catch template or block changes that hide controls.
Only after this sequence passes should you direct advertising or email traffic to the one-page URL.
Troubleshoot common failures
No products appear
- Check that every value in
product_idsis a real product ID. - Confirm the products are in stock and purchasable.
- If a product is hidden from the catalogue, include its ID explicitly.
- Remove the ID filter temporarily to determine whether the issue is the selector or the product records.
The custom template does not load
- Place the file in the active theme’s
/woocommerce/checkout/directory. - Make the shortcode’s
templatevalue match the filename expected by the extension. - Retest with a built-in value such as
product-list. If the built-in layout works, the issue is isolated to the custom file or its location.
A payment method is missing from the Checkout block
- Verify that the gateway is active.
- Confirm that it declares support for WooCommerce Checkout Blocks.
- Compare the block page with the standard Checkout page. If the method works only on the standard page, use the shortcode flow or the gateway’s supported integration until block support is available.
The receipt or confirmation page breaks
- Restore the assigned standard Checkout page in WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced.
- Ensure that the page contains
[woocommerce_checkout]or its Checkout block equivalent. - Do not assume that a successful payment on the one-page form replaces the normal receipt endpoint.
Two checkout forms appear or conflict
Remove every additional One Page Checkout shortcode from that page so only one remains. Keep unrelated sales copy, but do not nest another One Page Checkout form inside the same content area.
The page shows a product but cannot add it
Check stock and product purchasability first, then test with the product’s normal WooCommerce page. If the normal page also fails, resolve the product configuration before changing the one-page shortcode or template.
Practical shortcode patterns
Show the extension’s default selection:

Use the One Page Checkout extension for campaign pages, product pages, and tightly controlled offers where product choice and payment belong together. Use the Checkout block for a conventional, block-editor-managed checkout when all required gateways support it. Use [woocommerce_checkout] when compatibility with an established extension or gateway outweighs block-editor features.
Whichever route you publish, keep the standard Cart and Checkout pages configured, document which page is the fallback, and retest after changing gateways, product visibility, stock, or checkout templates. That arrangement gives customers the streamlined one-page path while preserving the WooCommerce flow needed for receipts, confirmations, and integrations.
