Yes, a PC player and a mobile player can play Terraria together, but the dependable method in October 2026 is a vanilla dedicated server rather than assuming a universal friend-invite system. Re-Logic’s September 24, 2026 State of the Game says Crossplay Phase One is still being finished, so a complete, already-live cross-platform matchmaking rollout is not confirmed. You can connect now by matching the PC, mobile and server versions, running the official dedicated-server software, and having the mobile player use Join via IP—normally on port 7777.
Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted Terraria servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
What works today
The documented PC-to-mobile route is a standard, unmodded Terraria server that both editions can reach. The server can run on a Windows, macOS or Linux computer capable of running the official server package; it does not have to be the same computer on which a player is playing. A PC player joins through Terraria’s normal multiplayer screen. An Android or iPhone/iPad player chooses multiplayer, selects Join via IP, and enters the server address and port.
This method is different from “full crossplay.” A platform friend list, console account or store account does not automatically make a PC world visible to a mobile player unless the current game build explicitly provides that feature. Start with the server workflow below, and use the roadmap wording only as an indication that broader support is being developed.
#1 Best Overall
- Build up a hospital from nothing to a masterpiece as you design the most beautiful – or functional – healthcare operation in the whole of Two Point County.
- Optimise your hospital design to increase patient (and cash) flow, arranging corridors, rooms and waiting areas to your exact specifications.
- Expand your hospital to multiple buildings as you look to get as many patients through the door as possible.
- Place decorative and functional items around your hospital to improve its prestige, lower patient boredom, increase happiness and keep those end of year awards flowing in.
- Features two great expansions, 21 hospitals and 119 very unusual illnesses!
PC and mobile can share a server, not a PC-only mod setup
The supported baseline described here is vanilla Terraria. The available evidence does not establish that PC mod loaders, PC-only mods or a mod pack can be used by mobile clients. If you are troubleshooting a connection, remove mods from the client and server first. Once an unmodified server works, any mod experiment is a separate compatibility project.
Before you start: a five-minute compatibility check
Most failed connections are caused by a build mismatch or by trying to use the wrong connection method. Check every participant and the server before changing router settings.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Update Terraria on the PC. Install the latest update offered by the PC platform you use.
- Update every mobile device. Android and iOS users should install the newest build available in their respective app store.
- Check the dedicated-server build. Download the server package that corresponds to the host environment and the game build you intend to run.
- Confirm the edition. The bespoke China Mobile edition was excluded from the January 2026 1.4.5 rollout, so do not assume it has the same compatibility as the standard international mobile release.
- Write down the exact versions. Keep the PC, mobile and server version strings available while testing; “latest” is not a guarantee that all platforms received the same patch on the same day.
Release timing explains why this matters. Re-Logic’s January 2026 launch announcement said version 1.4.5 rolled out to PC, console and mobile, apart from the bespoke China Mobile edition. Its August 2026 update then recorded PC 1.4.5.7 shipping before console and mobile submissions had completed. A PC hotfix can therefore be newer than the mobile build for a period of time. If Terraria reports incompatible host version, compare the actual numbers before reinstalling anything.
Choose the connection method
| Method | Where it works | What you need | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated server | Same home network or the public internet | Official server software, a world, an address and a port | The host computer must stay online; remote play needs firewall and router configuration |
| Local network test | Players connected to the same router | Dedicated server or local multiplayer host and the host’s private IP address | Does not provide internet access for friends outside the home |
| Automatic crossplay/invite feature | Depends on the current platform build | A build that explicitly exposes the feature | Crossplay Phase One was still described as being finished on September 24, 2026; do not rely on it without seeing the option in your game |
For a first test, use the local-network option. It removes public-address, port-forwarding and carrier-grade NAT variables. After a local connection succeeds, move to an internet test if necessary.
Download the official dedicated-server software
The official Terraria site lists separate PC Dedicated Server and Mobile Dedicated Server downloads. Select the package that matches the machine hosting the world and the game build you are running. Keep the initial setup vanilla so that version and network errors are not mixed with mod errors.
Where to place the files
Extract the server archive into a folder you can access easily, such as a dedicated Terraria server directory. Avoid placing the world and configuration files in a temporary downloads folder that may be cleaned automatically. The server application and its world files must remain on the host machine whenever players connect.
Which package should host PC/mobile play?
Use the official package intended for the host environment and verify that its version matches the clients. The important requirement is not the label on the download but build parity and a server that accepts the clients’ protocol. If the package starts but a client receives an incompatible-version error, stop and align versions rather than repeatedly changing ports.
Start a world on the server
- Launch the dedicated-server application. Allow it to create its initial configuration files if prompted.
- Select an existing world or create a new one. For a controlled test, create a small fresh world; once the connection works, select the long-term world you want to use.
- Set a password if you want one. Share it only with the players who should enter. A password protects the Terraria session but does not replace firewall or router security.
- Set or confirm the server port. The documented practical workflow uses port 7777. Keep that port for the first test unless another service already uses it.
- Leave the server running. The console should indicate that the world has loaded and that the server is listening. Do not close the window while players are connected.
Record two addresses: the host’s private address for a same-network test and the public address for friends outside the home. A private address commonly appears in the router or operating system network details; it is not interchangeable with the public address shown by an internet service. Never publish a private password or expose administration credentials in a public chat.
Let the PC player join
On the PC that will play, open Terraria’s multiplayer flow and choose the option for joining an existing server. Enter the server address and port requested by the server host. For a same-home-network test, use the host computer’s private IP address. For an internet connection, use the host’s public address after port forwarding and firewall rules are in place.
If the PC is running on the same machine as the server, the host can usually connect through the local machine address. Keep the server process running separately from the game client. A successful PC connection proves that the server is loaded and reachable from at least one client, but it does not by itself prove that a mobile build is compatible.
Join from Android or iPhone/iPad
- Open Terraria on the mobile device. Confirm that the app has finished updating and displays the same build family as the server.
- Open multiplayer. Choose the option to connect to an existing server rather than creating a local world.
- Select “Join via IP.” This is the documented mobile path for entering a server address directly.
- Enter the address. Use the host’s private IP when the phone or tablet is on the same home network. Use the host’s public address when connecting over the internet.
- Enter the port. Type 7777 unless the server host deliberately changed it, in which case enter the new port exactly.
- Enter the server password, if configured. Wait for the world list or connection screen to complete; do not launch a second server on the same port while the first is still running.
505 Games’ mobile support documentation, modified September 12, 2023, states that multiplayer works across device families, including Android-to-iOS and phones-to-tablets. It also explains that mobile multiplayer generally follows the non-Steam PC multiplayer model. That supports the direct server-address workflow, but it does not mean a mobile player can automatically see every PC friend or Steam invitation.
Open the connection for friends outside your home
A local test uses a private address and should not require exposing the server to the internet. For a friend on another network, the host normally needs three network conditions:
Rank #2
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- Firewall permission: permit the Terraria server application, or its listening port, for the network profile you are using.
- Router port forwarding: forward the chosen Terraria port—7777 in the documented workflow—from the router to the host computer’s private IP address.
- A reachable public address: give friends the current public address, not the host’s private 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x address.
Router menus differ by manufacturer and firmware, so the labels may be “Port Forwarding,” “Virtual Server” or similar. Reserve the host computer’s private IP in the router if possible; otherwise, a DHCP change can point the forwarding rule at the wrong device. If the internet service uses carrier-grade NAT, inbound forwarding may not work even when the router rule is correct. In that case, ask the provider whether a public IPv4 address is available or use a server host that accepts incoming connections.
Do not test remote access from inside the same home network and conclude that the public address is broken; some routers do not support NAT loopback. Have a friend on another connection test, or use a phone’s cellular connection while Wi-Fi is disabled.

Troubleshooting by symptom
“Incompatible host version”
- Read the exact version shown by the PC client, each mobile device and the dedicated server.
- Install pending updates on all platforms, then restart the game and server.
- Check whether a PC hotfix arrived before the mobile submission. Re-Logic’s 2026 announcements document that staggered releases occurred, including PC 1.4.5.7 preceding console and mobile submissions.
- Use a server package built for the same release family; do not assume that a server downloaded weeks earlier is still current.
- Test again with a vanilla client and server after the numbers match.
The mobile device cannot see the world
Do not wait for the world to appear in a friend list. On mobile, choose Join via IP, type the address manually, verify the port, and confirm that the server console shows the world is running. A phone on cellular data cannot use the host’s private home-network address; it needs the public address and a working forward rule.
PC connects, mobile times out
- Confirm that the phone is using the correct address for its network location.
- Check the host firewall rule for the server process and port 7777.
- Confirm that the router forwards UDP/TCP traffic as required by the server’s current instructions and that the forwarding target still has the same private IP.
- Temporarily test from the same Wi-Fi network. If local access works, focus on public routing, firewall scope, ISP filtering or carrier-grade NAT.
- Recheck the mobile and server versions before making further network changes.
Both players connect, but the session drops
Keep the host computer awake and prevent it from entering sleep mode. A server process cannot accept connections while the machine is powered down or disconnected. Check whether the router periodically changes the host’s private IP, and reserve that address if it does. If only the remote player drops, compare the stability of the two internet connections before changing Terraria settings.
Mods or texture changes cause errors
Return every participant to a vanilla client and run the official server package. The available documentation does not establish PC-mod-to-mobile compatibility, so treat a modded setup as unsupported for this cross-device baseline. If vanilla play works, add changes one at a time and keep a backup of the world before each test.
Android and iPhone/iPad compatibility questions
Mobile multiplayer is designed to work across device families. 505 Games specifically cites Android-to-iOS and phone-to-tablet connections. Both devices still need compatible Terraria builds and the same server address, port and password. The mobile operating system alone is not a reason to expect a failure.
Keeping the server reliable
Use a fixed routine for updates
Before updating one participant, note the current server and client versions. Apply updates to the server and all clients as a coordinated change, then perform a short connection test before a scheduled group session. Platform stores can publish builds at different times, so a player who is fully updated may temporarily be unable to join a server running an older build.
Back up the world
Copy the world file while the server is stopped or after using the server’s safe-save procedure. Store at least one backup outside the server folder. A backup is especially important before a major game update, a mod experiment or a router migration.
Decide who must host
| Hosting choice | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Home PC | Small groups and occasional sessions | No hosting bill, but the computer must stay powered, updated and reachable |
| Another always-on computer | Families or groups with a spare machine | Requires administration, backups and a stable network |
| Third-party Terraria server hosting | Groups that do not want a home PC exposed or running continuously | Availability, pricing, region and support vary; verify the provider’s current Terraria version and mobile compatibility before paying |
Whichever option you choose, keep the server’s version aligned with the clients and preserve the address and port information that mobile players enter through Join via IP.

What to expect from Crossplay Phase One
The September 24, 2026 State of the Game gives a clear but limited status: the team was putting “finishing touches” on Crossplay Phase One and expected it “in the near future.” It does not specify a universal matchmaking design, a final release date or a guarantee that every platform and edition will participate at launch. Until an update changes the in-game options, the dedicated-server procedure remains the practical documented bridge for PC and mobile.
When a future build adds a direct invite or account-based flow, check the release notes and the menus on both devices. Do not remove the server workflow from your troubleshooting checklist immediately: it remains useful for private worlds, persistent hosting and cases where platform friend services are unavailable.
Quick pre-session checklist
- PC, mobile devices and server show compatible version numbers.
- The server package matches the host environment and is running the intended world.
- The server port is known; use 7777 unless you intentionally changed it.
- Players on the same Wi-Fi use the host’s private IP address.
- Players outside the home use the public address, with firewall permission and router forwarding configured.
- Mobile players choose Multiplayer → Join via IP.
- The password, if any, is entered exactly.
- The host computer stays awake and the server window remains open.
- Everyone is testing vanilla Terraria before attempting unsupported PC mods.
The Bottom Line
For PC-and-mobile Terraria play in October 2026, update every client and the server, run the official vanilla dedicated-server software, keep the builds aligned, and have the mobile player connect through Join via IP on port 7777. Re-Logic’s broader Crossplay Phase One was still in development as of September 24, 2026, so do not assume automatic platform invites are already available.
