To enable Twitch Integration, join your 7 Days to Die server as an administrator, open Options > Twitch, choose LOGIN TWITCH, and authorize the account in the browser window. If viewers must interact from your stream page, also install and activate the 7 Days to Die Twitch Extension in Creator Dashboard and assign it to an Overlay slot. On a dedicated or hosted server, configure the Twitch permission and Blood Moon setting while the server is stopped, then restart it before testing.

Twitch Integration connects Twitch.tv chat with the game’s event system. Viewers can vote on major events, apply beneficial or harmful buffs, spawn individual zombies, and trigger larger hordes. They earn points for helping the stream or for causing the streamer’s death, while the streamer decides how expensive or influential those actions are.
The feature is built into 7 Days to Die; it is not a separate server mod that every player must install. The game handles authorization and action controls from its Twitch menu. The browser extension is a separate, viewer-facing layer that puts interaction on the live channel page.

The system uses action-stage progression so a new world is not immediately overwhelmed by every possible command. Some actions and votes are also deliberately suspended in protected or scripted situations:
- Land-claim areas
- Trader areas
- Active quest areas
- Blood Moon periods when the server setting disallows Twitch actions
The Fun Pimps’ 2023 Twitch Integration guide summarizes the feature as a way for viewers to “connect with your apocalypse.” In practice, a working setup has three separate pieces: game-account authorization, the server’s permission to accept Twitch actions, and the Twitch extension that exposes interaction on the live channel page. Treating those as separate layers makes troubleshooting much faster.
Requirements and preflight checks
A Twitch account
The host or streamer must have a valid Twitch account. Authorization is completed through Twitch’s browser sign-in rather than by typing a password into the game. Use the account that owns or manages the channel where the integration will run; authorizing a different account can leave the game connected to the wrong username.
Server permission
The account connecting Twitch must have the required permission on the 7 Days to Die server. On a hosted or dedicated server, an owner or another administrator may need to grant that permission in the server configuration before the in-game login will work. Authentication proves who you are, but it does not automatically grant authority to execute server actions.
Administrator access in game
Join the world as an administrator before opening the Twitch menu. If you are playing as an ordinary client, the menu may be unavailable or the connection may not be allowed to control server events. If another person owns the server, ask that person to grant the required permission and restart the server before you attempt authorization.
A supported server build and restart access
For a dedicated server, you need access to its configuration files or control panel and the ability to stop and restart the process. Hosted panels often expose the relevant files under a Configuration Files area. Confirm that the provider supports the same 7 Days to Die build as the clients joining the world. Do not edit a live file and assume the running server has reloaded it; stop, save, and restart whenever you change server-side Twitch settings.
A safe test plan
Have a second Twitch account, a moderator, or a trusted friend available for testing. Keep the first test private or use a low-impact action. This lets you distinguish an authorization problem from a suppressed action without surprising a full audience or flooding the server with entities.
Set up the in-game Twitch connection
- Join as an administrator. Start the server and enter the world with the account that has the required server permission. If you changed permission in a control panel, restart first so the process loads the new value.
- Open the Twitch menu. Press
Esc, select Options, then open the Twitch category. Menu wording can vary slightly between game builds, but it is the Twitch page inside Options. - Start authorization. Select LOGIN TWITCH. 7 Days to Die opens a browser window for Twitch authorization. If a browser does not appear, check whether a pop-up was blocked and open the authorization link through the game again.
- Sign in and authorize. Complete the Twitch login in the browser and approve the connection request. Return to the game after Twitch confirms it. Do not close the game while the hand-off is waiting for approval.
- Verify the account. Reopen the Twitch submenu and check that the connected Twitch username is displayed. If no name appears, the authorization did not persist and should be repeated before you edit XML files.
- Confirm the active state. When integration is active, a lightning-bolt indicator appears beside players. Open the Twitch Status Window as you test so you can see whether votes and actions are being accepted or suppressed.
The Twitch menu is also where you set action strength, action costs, voting behavior, and other session controls. Start with conservative values, test one event, and then increase the influence or lower the cost only after confirming that the server handles the resulting spawns. Record your initial settings so you can restore a known-good configuration after experimentation.

Make Twitch interaction visible to viewers
Authorization alone does not put controls on the channel page. Viewers who should interact from Twitch need the 7 Days to Die extension installed and active on the channel. This extension is not a replacement for the in-game login: both layers must be configured.
- Open Twitch Creator Dashboard for the channel connected in the game.
- Go to Extensions and search for 7 Days to Die.
- Install the integration extension.
- Click Activate.
- Assign the extension to an Overlay slot. Installing it without assigning a slot leaves it unavailable to viewers.
- Go live and check the channel page from a separate browser or account. A channel owner viewing the dashboard alone may not see the same viewer presentation.
The extension will not display to viewers unless the channel is live and the extension is active. If the game reports Twitch Extension Needed, this message points to the channel layer. Install, activate, and assign the extension before changing server permissions or reinstalling the game.
Configure a dedicated or hosted server
Server-side settings determine whether the authorized account can issue Twitch commands and whether those commands are allowed during Blood Moon. The safe workflow is always: stop the server, back up the current configuration, edit and save the configuration, restart, then complete or verify the in-game login.
Set the Twitch permission
Grant the streamer or administrator account the server permission required by your game build. The exact permission value is controlled by the TwitchServerPermission setting. If this value is too restrictive, the account can authenticate in a browser but still lack authority to run integration actions. Change only the intended permission entry, save it in the active server instance, and restart.
Decide what happens during Blood Moon
TwitchBloodMoonAllowed controls whether Twitch actions are permitted during Blood Moon. Enabling it can add extra spawns and event activity to an already intensive night, so enable it deliberately and test the resulting server load before using it on a public stream. If the server already approaches its performance limit during a normal Blood Moon, leave the setting disabled.

Edit advanced integration files
For deeper customization, the game exposes two XML files:
twitch.xmlcontrols integration actions.gameevents.xmlcontrols game-event behavior.
On a self-hosted server, locate these files in the server’s configuration directory. On a managed host, use the provider’s configuration-file editor if available. Stop the server first, make a backup, edit one logical change at a time, save the file, and restart. Keep the original file so you can roll back a malformed or overly aggressive change. If an edit appears to do nothing, verify that you changed the active instance rather than a local client copy and that the server was actually restarted after saving.
Hosted-server workflow
In a provider panel, stop the process rather than merely disconnecting from the game. Open the configuration editor, set the permission and Blood Moon values, save, and use the panel’s restart control. Some panels have separate profiles or multiple instances, so confirm the server name and instance before saving. After the restart completes, join as the authorized administrator and check the displayed Twitch username. Managed hosting can simplify restarts and backups, but it does not remove the need to verify the game build or the exact file being edited.

Choose a hosting approach for Twitch Integration
Twitch works with either a self-hosted server or a managed host, but the practical experience differs. The important question is not the brand of host; it is whether you can reach the settings and perform a controlled restart.

Choose self-hosting when you want direct file access and are comfortable maintaining backups, permissions, and restarts. Choose managed hosting when a control panel, provider support, and routine restart tools are more valuable than unrestricted filesystem access. In either case, verify that the host supports the required game build and exposes the Twitch settings before committing to a long-running public stream.

Test the integration before streaming
Run this short test with the server private or with trusted moderators present:
- Confirm the server is restarted after any configuration edit.
- Join as the authorized administrator and verify the Twitch username in Options > Twitch.
- Open the Twitch Status Window.
- From a separate Twitch account, confirm that the channel is live and the extension is visible.
- Trigger one low-impact action or vote.
- Check that the action appears in the status window and that the expected in-game effect occurs.
- Move into a land-claim or trader area and confirm that suppression is reported rather than mistaken for a failed login.
- Leave the protected area and repeat the test during an ordinary, non-quest period.
- Start or abandon an active quest only after the ordinary test works; quest areas intentionally suppress integration activity.
- If you intend to allow Blood Moon actions, test that setting in a controlled session before using it with a full audience.
- Watch the server console or provider performance display while testing larger spawns. If entity counts or responsiveness deteriorate, reduce action strength, raise costs, or disable Blood Moon actions.
A successful test verifies each layer independently: the username proves authorization, the lightning bolt indicates active integration, the extension proves viewer access, and the status window explains whether gameplay conditions accept or suppress the action.
Why Twitch actions or votes are missing
“Twitch Extension Needed” appears
This message points to the viewer-facing extension, not necessarily to a failed game login. In Creator Dashboard, install the 7 Days to Die extension, activate it, assign it to an Overlay slot, and test while the channel is live. If the extension is active but viewers still cannot see it, verify that you are checking the same channel account that was authorized in game.
The login does not stick
Open the in-game Twitch submenu, log out, and sign in again through LOGIN TWITCH. Complete the browser authorization and return to the game. The connected username must be visible in the submenu; if it is not, repeat the authorization before changing server files. Also confirm that the browser did not authorize a different Twitch account.
The connection repeatedly fails or drops
Active security software can interfere with the browser hand-off or the game’s connection. As a diagnostic step, temporarily disable Smart Virus Protection or equivalent active scanning, then attempt the login again. If that resolves the problem, turn protection back on and add the 7 Days to Die client folder as a permanent exclusion. Do not leave antivirus protection disabled as the permanent fix. Re-enable protection before inviting viewers and document the exclusion so a future security update does not silently remove it.
Actions are suppressed in a safe area or quest
Land-claim zones, trader areas, and active quest areas intentionally pause actions and votes. Move outside the protected area, finish or abandon the active quest as appropriate, and check the Twitch Status Window for the suppression reason. A suppressed action is different from a failed connection: the integration can be fully operational while the current location or quest blocks the effect.

Blood Moon actions are unavailable
Check TwitchBloodMoonAllowed. A disabled value blocks Twitch activity during Blood Moon by design. If you enable it, restart the server and test again; the setting does not retroactively change an already-running process. Remember that allowing actions during Blood Moon can create substantially more work for the server and may make an otherwise stable session unplayable.
Some commands are not listed
Action-stage progression unlocks commands gradually, so a new session may not expose every option. The Extras category can also require manual enabling in the Actions tab. Raise or adjust the action stage only when you understand the additional spawn and difficulty impact. Missing entries are often progression or configuration behavior, not evidence that Twitch authorization failed.

Review the voting controls and action strength in the Twitch menu. A vote can be accepted while producing a modest result if its strength is set low, its cost is high, or the current action stage limits the available effect. Test one variable at a time so you know whether a change affected voting, cost, or event intensity.
Hosted-server edits have no effect
Stop the server before editing, save the file in the provider’s panel, and restart the correct instance. Confirm that the connecting account has the required server permission. A change made to a local client file, an offline copy, or an un-restarted server will not alter the live world. If the provider restores files automatically, check its backup or deployment log and contact support with the instance name and restart time.

Twitch Integration gives the streamer control over how much influence viewers receive. Use the in-game Twitch controls to balance three variables:
- Action strength: how severe a buff, debuff, spawn, or event becomes.
- Action cost: how many viewer points are required before an action can be used.
- Voting rules: how chat votes determine a major event and how much influence each vote has.
Keep early sessions restrained while viewers accumulate points and learn the command set. Action-stage progression is intended to prevent a new player or fresh world from being hit by every high-impact option immediately. Increase strength or reduce costs in small increments, watching server performance and the number of concurrent entities after each change.

Explain the rules to moderators before going live. Decide who may change costs or action strength, and keep a written baseline of settings. If chat discovers a combination that overwhelms the world, pause the integration, restore the baseline, and restart rather than repeatedly changing several files during an active horde.

- Have a valid Twitch account ready for browser authorization.
- Join the 7 Days to Die server with the required administrator permission.
- Complete Options > Twitch > LOGIN TWITCH and verify the displayed username.

- Confirm the channel is live before expecting viewers to see the extension.

What a successful setup looks like
A correct setup shows the authorized Twitch username in the game’s Twitch submenu, a lightning-bolt indicator beside active players, and a live channel page with the 7 Days to Die extension assigned to an Overlay slot. A test action should appear in the Twitch Status Window and produce its expected effect outside protected areas. If any one of those checks fails, troubleshoot that layer—authorization, extension, permission, configuration, or gameplay suppression—rather than reinstalling the entire server.

Do I need a separate mod to use Twitch Integration?
No. Twitch Integration is built into 7 Days to Die and is controlled from the in-game Twitch menu. The separate 7 Days to Die Twitch Extension is needed only for viewer-facing controls on the live channel page.
Why does the game say “Twitch Extension Needed” after I logged in?
Install the 7 Days to Die extension in Twitch Creator Dashboard, click Activate, assign it to an Overlay slot, and test while the channel is live. Browser authorization and the channel extension are separate steps.
