NuVotifier is the current Votifier-compatible plugin for receiving callbacks from Minecraft server-list voting sites. It listens on a public TCP endpoint, verifies each site’s signature with an RSA public key, and passes the vote to your server. NuVotifier does not give players items, money, ranks, or commands by itself; you must install a separate vote-listener plugin and configure its rewards.

The reliable setup is therefore two connected jobs: expose and test the NuVotifier endpoint, then configure and test the reward listener. The steps below cover a single Bukkit-family server and BungeeCord, Waterfall, or Velocity networks.

What you need before installing NuVotifier
Gather these details before changing configuration:
- Console or file access to the server and permission to install plugins.
- A server-list account that supports Votifier or NuVotifier callbacks.
- An unused, externally reachable TCP port for the public listener. The valid port range is 1–65535. Do not reuse the Minecraft gameplay port or a port already owned by another service.
- Firewall, NAT, or hosting-panel access to permit that port. Shared hosts may require the provider to assign and open a port for you.
- A maintained vote-listener plugin, such as VotingPlugin or SuperbVote, for reward handling.
NuVotifier supports Bukkit-family servers, Sponge, BungeeCord, Waterfall, and Velocity. The installation package and configuration layout differ slightly by platform, but the networking principles are the same.

How NuVotifier voting works
A player clicks your server’s vote button on a listing site. That site connects to the NuVotifier listener at the address and port you publish, then signs the vote payload. NuVotifier checks the payload with the public key you supplied to the site. If verification succeeds, NuVotifier emits a vote event inside Minecraft. A listener plugin receives that event, identifies the player and site, and executes the configured reward.
This separation explains the most common troubleshooting mistake: a successful callback in the NuVotifier log does not prove that a reward will appear. Network receipt and reward processing are separate paths and must be tested separately.

1. Install NuVotifier and restart
- Download the NuVotifier build for your platform from the project’s official distribution or its Spigot listing.
- Put the plugin JAR in the server’s
plugins/directory. - Perform a full server restart. On first startup, NuVotifier creates its data directory, configuration, and RSA key pair.
Do not rely on a generic hot-reload after adding the JAR. A restart gives you a clean enable sequence and makes it easier to identify dependency or port errors.
2. Select a listener host and port
Open the generated NuVotifier configuration and set the public listener host and port. In most hosting environments, use 0.0.0.0 for host; this binds on all interfaces and avoids accidentally selecting an interface that is not reachable from the internet.
Set port to an unused TCP port from 1 through 65535. Port 8192 is a common example and may be used as a default when a host assigns it, but it is not a universal entitlement. A game-hosting panel may expose only ports allocated to your account. If the panel requires you to select a port, choose one it marks as available rather than typing an arbitrary value. A June 7, 2026 hosting guide documents this assigned-port workflow, but panel rules vary by provider.

Never place the listener on the same port as Minecraft, a query service, a web panel, or another plugin. If two processes claim one port, NuVotifier cannot bind and no voting site will be able to connect.
3. Restart and verify that the socket is listening
Restart again after saving the host and port. Read the startup log and confirm that NuVotifier enabled successfully and reports that it is listening. Treat an error such as “address already in use” as a port-allocation problem: select another unused port or ask the host to assign and open one.
A listening message proves only that the process opened a local socket. The endpoint still has to be reachable from outside the machine, so firewall and NAT checks come next if a vote site cannot connect.
4. Copy the generated public key
NuVotifier creates an RSA key pair in its plugin data directory. On recent Bukkit installations, the public key is commonly at plugins/Votifier/rsa/public.key. Open the file and copy the complete key, including its beginning and ending lines, into the voting site’s Votifier or NuVotifier public-key field.
Publish only the public key. Keep the private key inside the server’s protected plugin directory and out of tickets, screenshots, repositories, and chat. A site using the wrong or incomplete public key cannot decrypt and verify the callback.

5. Install a vote listener and configure rewards
Install a listener that supports your server platform, then restart. VotingPlugin and SuperbVote are examples; whichever listener you choose has its own configuration for commands, item grants, currency, streaks, cooldowns, and per-site rewards.
Configure at least one unmistakable test reward, such as a harmless command or a small item grant, before adding a complicated reward table. Check the listener’s own startup log for an enabled status and configuration errors. NuVotifier will forward events even when no listener is installed, but nothing will reward the player in that case.
6. Register the endpoint on each voting site
In the listing site’s server-management page, enter the values it requests:
- Your normal Minecraft server address for players.
- The NuVotifier address that the site can reach. This may be the same public hostname as the game server, or a separate public address supplied by your host.
- The NuVotifier TCP port you opened.
- The complete NuVotifier public key.
Every listing site labels and validates these fields differently. Save the entry only after checking that the address and port point to NuVotifier rather than the gameplay port. If the site offers a connection test, run it after the server has restarted and the firewall rule is active.

7. Test the network and reward paths independently
- From the Bukkit or Sponge server console, run
/testvote. This simulates a vote without depending on a third-party listing site. - Watch the NuVotifier log for receipt of the test vote.
- Watch the vote-listener log and check the player account for the configured reward.
- If the NuVotifier event appears but no reward does, fix the listener installation or reward configuration; changing ports or keys will not solve a listener problem.
- After the local test works, use a real vote from each listing site and verify that site-specific names, commands, and reward settings behave as intended.
Configuring BungeeCord, Waterfall, or Velocity
A network normally has one public proxy and multiple backend servers. Install NuVotifier on the public proxy and on every backend that must receive and process votes. Keep backend servers inaccessible directly from the public internet whenever possible; exposing them can let an attacker bypass the proxy and abuse vote handling.

Recommended design: pluginMessaging forwarding
For an ordinary single-proxy network, NuVotifier’s pluginMessaging forwarding is usually the simplest option and supports queuing. The proxy receives the public callback, then forwards the vote over the established proxy channel to the selected backend.
- Give the proxy a unique, externally reachable NuVotifier listening port and open it in the host firewall or panel.
- Register every voting site with the proxy’s public NuVotifier address, port, and proxy public key.
- On each backend, set the forwarding
methodtopluginMessaging. - Set the backend forwarding
portto-1. The backend receives forwarded votes through the proxy channel instead of accepting its own public listener connection. - Install and configure the vote listener on each backend that should execute rewards.
- Confirm that the proxy is connected to each target backend and that the backend’s forwarding allow/deny settings permit the vote channel.
With plugin messaging, a vote can be queued until the relevant player joins that backend. This is useful when a player is offline or currently connected elsewhere, but you must still verify the listener’s queue and delivery behavior in its documentation.

Specialized design: proxy forwarding
Use proxy forwarding only when your topology makes plugin messaging unsuitable or you need its advanced behavior. This mode requires more public or internal listener endpoints and more secrets to manage.
- Give every backend its own unused listener port and make sure the proxy can reach those ports.
- Generate or read the v2 token for each receiving backend.
- In the proxy configuration, add each backend with its address, port, and matching v2 token.
- Register voting sites against the proxy endpoint, not against an arbitrary backend.
- Install the reward listener on every backend that should process forwarded votes.
- Review proxy and backend logs together while running a test.
Do not substitute the RSA public or private key in the rsa/ directory for a v2 token. They serve different authentication systems. A proxy-mode failure commonly comes from using the right backend address with the wrong token.
Testing a proxy network
On BungeeCord, use /ptestvote to simulate a proxy-side vote. On the backend platform, use /testvote as appropriate. Follow the event through every hop: proxy receipt, forwarding, backend receipt, and listener reward. A successful proxy log with no backend log indicates forwarding or connectivity; a backend log with no reward indicates listener configuration.

Troubleshooting NuVotifier
No NuVotifier log entry for a real vote
Work through the connection path in order:
- Confirm the plugin enabled without a startup exception.
- Check that the voting site has the correct public address and port, not the Minecraft gameplay port.
- Verify that no other process owns the configured port.
- Open the port in the host firewall. On Linux, inspect
iptablesorufw; on Windows, check Windows Defender Firewall. - If the server is behind a router or NAT, forward the TCP port to the correct machine.
- On shared hosting, confirm that the provider actually assigned and opened the port; a locally edited number cannot create an externally routable port.
- For a proxy network, test the proxy endpoint first. Do not register a private backend address with a public listing site.
A vote is logged, but no reward appears
NuVotifier has already done its part. Check that a compatible vote listener is installed and enabled, then inspect that plugin’s reward configuration, player-name handling, command permissions, and error log. Run /testvote again with a simple reward so you can distinguish a listener problem from a complicated command or economy integration.

Compare the complete public key saved at the voting site with the public key generated by the exact NuVotifier instance receiving the vote. Copy the whole file again rather than retyping it. On a proxy network, make sure the site has the proxy’s key, not a backend key.
The proxy receives votes, but a backend does not
Confirm that the backend uses the intended forwarding method, that plugin messaging is enabled on both sides, and that the proxy is actually connected to the target server. Check backend whitelist or blacklist settings and verify that the player can reach the destination backend. With plugin messaging, inspect whether the vote is queued for the player rather than discarded.
Proxy mode fails between the proxy and backend
Check every backend address and port from the proxy’s point of view. Replace any mismatched credential with that backend’s generated v2 token. Read both proxy and backend logs; a token error on the proxy and a connection error on the backend can describe the same failed hop from opposite ends.
Reload commands do not work
On Bukkit or Sponge, run /nvreload from the server console only; it is intentionally not an in-game command. On BungeeCord or Velocity, use /pnvreload where supported. Avoid generic /reload commands and plugin managers. NuVotifier’s troubleshooting guidance treats generic reload behavior as unsupported; if one has already been attempted, perform a full restart before diagnosing further.

- Keep the private RSA key and all v2 tokens secret.
- Expose only the proxy listener publicly when your network design permits it.
- Use a dedicated, unused TCP port and document which service owns it.
- Review firewall and NAT rules after host migrations or panel changes.
- Keep NuVotifier and the reward listener updated from maintained sources compatible with your server platform.
- Test after changing a hostname, port, public key, proxy topology, or reward configuration.
- Retain enough startup and vote-event logging to trace a callback through proxy, backend, and listener without logging private credentials.
What a successful setup looks like
A complete installation has four observable results: NuVotifier starts and listens on an assigned public TCP port; each voting site stores the matching public key and endpoint; a local test command produces a NuVotifier vote event; and the separate listener plugin executes the intended reward. On a proxy network, the same chain continues through the configured forwarding method and reaches the correct backend.
