Use the Xbox Accessories app to configure button mappings and thumbstick sensitivity on the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, then save the setup as a profile. Set up or edit a profile
Connect or select your Elite Series 2 in the Xbox Accessories app. Create a profile or open one you already use, make your mapping and stick adjustments, and save the changes. Microsoft documents the app for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10/11, though available controls and labels can vary with app and controller firmware versions (Xbox Support; Xbox Design Lab).
- Open Xbox Accessories and connect or select the Elite Series 2.
- Create a profile or choose an existing profile to edit.
- Use the app’s mapping controls to assign the face buttons and paddles.
- Adjust the sensitivity curve for either thumbstick, and change stick-input swapping if needed.
- Save the profile. Press the controller’s Profile button to select it or another saved setup.
These are the documented tasks and general workflow, not a promise of identical screen-by-screen steps in every app release. Check the current app labels rather than relying on a fixed menu path.
Remap buttons and paddles
Use the Xbox Accessories app’s mapping controls to choose what the face buttons and paddles do in a profile. Mapping can make a frequently used command accessible from a paddle, for example, but the right assignment depends on the game and your preferences.

Xbox Wire documented controller-to-keyboard mapping for the Elite Series 2 on PC and console in an August 2023 update. A November 14, 2024 update added the ability to map thumbstick directions to buttons or keyboard inputs. Check the current app and firmware for availability, and do not assume every game accepts every mapped input (Xbox Wire, August 3, 2023; Xbox Wire, November 14, 2024).
Adjust stick sensitivity without confusing it with tension
The app supports thumbstick sensitivity curves and swapping left- and right-stick inputs. Sensitivity curves change software response; the controller’s adjustable-tension thumbsticks change how much physical force the stick takes to move. They are separate adjustments, so do not assume changing tension also changes the curve (Xbox Design Lab).

Microsoft’s product information confirms curve adjustment but does not establish a universally best setting or a guaranteed in-game effect for a particular curve. Change one setting at a time and try it in the game you play. Curve names and available controls may depend on the current app version.
Switch between saved setups
The Elite Series 2 holds up to three custom profiles and one default profile. Once profiles are saved, press the controller’s Profile button to switch among them; use distinct setups for different games or play styles if that helps you (Xbox Design Lab).

Do you need the standard Elite Series 2 or the Core?
Both product listings describe app-based custom button mapping and three custom profiles for their respective Elite Series 2 controllers. Microsoft’s available evidence here does not establish a complete feature or package-content comparison, so check the current listing and included components before buying. The standard Series 2 product page lists interchangeable thumbsticks, a thumbstick adjustment tool, a D-pad, paddles, and a carry case among its components; do not assume the Core package includes the same items (Xbox Design Lab; Microsoft Store: Elite Series 2 Core).
When to consider replacement parts
Replacing thumbsticks, paddles, or the D-pad is a physical customization or repair option, not a requirement for creating profiles or remapping controls. Check compatibility for your exact controller model before buying parts. Xbox Wire also cautions that recalibration will not fix every problem, including stick drift caused by normal wear (Xbox Wire, November 14, 2024).
