Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo loop a local video file as a YouTube Live stream, get the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, then run FFmpeg with real-time input pacing and an RTMP or preferably RTMPS output. The command below is a starting point: replace the file path and credentials, match the encoding settings to your video and upload capacity, and confirm the preview in Live Control Room before going live.
Before you start: enable YouTube Live and create a stream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to use live streaming. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create an encoder stream or schedule one from the Manage tab. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the current workflow.
In that stream’s settings, copy its Stream URL and Stream key. Use the values shown for that specific stream; do not guess the server path or pair a key with a different stream. The key functions as a credential that lets an encoder send a feed to your channel, so keep it private.
Choose RTMPS and prepare the FFmpeg command
YouTube recommends RTMPS when your encoder supports it because it encrypts the feed in transit. The default endpoint display may show ordinary RTMP. You can reveal the RTMPS endpoint using the lock icon in Live Control Room; use the exact URL YouTube displays for your stream. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This illustrative command reads loop.mp4 at real-time speed, loops it indefinitely, encodes H.264 video and AAC audio, and sends an FLV-muxed feed. Replace the sample filename, endpoint, and key with your own values:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "loop.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast
-b:v 2500k -maxrate 2500k -bufsize 5000k
-pix_fmt yuv420p -g 60
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://SERVER/APP/STREAM_KEY"
This is an untested example, not a guarantee for every FFmpeg build, source file, or YouTube stream. Confirm that your installed FFmpeg supports the selected encoders and transport, and use the URL and key exactly as provided by YouTube. FFmpeg options apply to the next input or output, so input options such as -re belong before -i, while output encoding options belong before the destination. See the FFmpeg documentation and its protocol documentation.

What to adjust in the command
Looping and real-time playback
-repaces the file input in real time. Without real-time pacing, FFmpeg can process a file faster than it should be sent as a live feed.-stream_loop -1requests indefinite repetition of the input. Check your installed FFmpeg’s local help because online documentation follows the newest revision and option availability can vary by build.
Video codec, bitrate, and keyframes
-c:v libx264 selects H.264 encoding. YouTube lists H.264 as a supported live codec and recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding, a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. Its live encoder settings guidance gives bitrate recommendations by format; choose settings for your target resolution and frame rate rather than treating the example’s 2500k as a universal recommendation.
The example’s -g 60 sets a GOP of 60 frames. That is a two-second interval only at 30 frames per second. Set the GOP to roughly two seconds’ worth of frames at your actual output frame rate—for example, 120 frames at 60 fps—and keep within YouTube’s recommended maximum interval. The sample uses -b:v and -maxrate at 2500k with a 5000k buffer, but those are sample values, not YouTube-prescribed settings for every resolution. Make sure the selected bitrate fits your available upload capacity.

Audio and output format
-c:a aac selects AAC audio, another codec listed in YouTube’s live encoder guidance; -b:a 128k and -ar 44100 set the example audio bitrate and sample rate. Check whether the input actually contains audio. If it does not, a command that expects an audio stream may fail or behave differently than intended: omit audio encoding or deliberately provide an audio input, then check the preview.
-f flv selects the FLV output muxer used in FFmpeg’s RTMP command pattern. RTMP and RTMPS are network protocols; the destination must be a valid endpoint accepted by YouTube. A file’s source resolution and frame rate, the encoded output settings, and your internet upload capacity all affect whether the feed can be sent reliably.

Start the feed, check the preview, and end the stream
- Start FFmpeg in a terminal with the adjusted command. Keep the process running so it continues sending the feed.
- Check Live Control Room. Wait for YouTube’s preview to appear and inspect both picture and audio. For a scheduled stream, start the encoder and then select Go live in Live Control Room when you are ready.
- Check stream health. YouTube recommends testing ahead of an event with representative movement and audio, monitoring stream health, and choosing quality your upload connection can sustain. Its encoder settings guidance includes current recommendations.
- Stop deliberately. Stop the FFmpeg process when the broadcast should end, then use End Stream in Live Control Room where applicable. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that behavior for a longer stream.
Troubleshoot common FFmpeg-to-YouTube problems
No preview appears
- Confirm FFmpeg is still running and sending data, and that the stream is active in Live Control Room.
- Check that the URL and key were copied from the same YouTube stream.
- Verify whether the endpoint is RTMP or RTMPS and whether your FFmpeg build supports the selected protocol.
- Confirm the input file opens and contains the streams your command expects.
RTMPS or TLS connection error
Make sure you copied the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room rather than assuming the default RTMP URL is encrypted. Use the endpoint YouTube supplies for that stream. YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance notes that port 443 may help when the URL otherwise looks correct but an SSL error occurs.
Unstable quality or dropped data
Test your upload capacity and compare it with the bitrate you have configured. Lower the bitrate or output resolution if the connection cannot sustain the feed, consult YouTube’s current recommendations for the selected format, and monitor stream health. A successful loop command alone does not establish that the codec, bitrate, keyframe interval, and connection are suitable.

Stream key exposed
Treat the key like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the old value in your FFmpeg destination before sending the feed again. YouTube explains stream-key management in its live stream settings guidance.
Copyright and channel-policy checks for a repeated video
FFmpeg controls how a file is sent; it does not grant the right to broadcast it or determine whether a channel can monetize repeated content. Before looping a video, make sure you have the necessary rights to its footage, music, and other included material. A valid stream key and a healthy preview do not establish that the content complies with YouTube’s rules. Check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for your circumstances, especially if the video is not your original work.
