For a quick visit to a Bedrock world, the host can start an online game and a Minecraft friend can join through Play > Friends. The host must stay online. If friends should be able to enter while the host is away, invite them to a Realm for the same edition. Java and Bedrock players cannot join each other’s standard edition-specific worlds.
Choose how friends will access the world
| Option | Must the host be online? | How friends get in | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Join the host’s Bedrock game | Yes | Be Minecraft friends, then join the host’s online session | A group playing together while the host is available |
| Realm | No | Receive an invitation or, for Bedrock, an active share link | Keeping an invited world accessible when its owner is offline |
| Community server | No, not as the host of the original save | Join a server through Minecraft’s Servers tab or server details | Playing together in an existing multiplayer community, rather than sharing the host’s save |
All players need to use the same edition for these standard routes: Java players join Java multiplayer, and Bedrock players join Bedrock multiplayer. Players also need compatible, current game versions. Console players may need the platform’s online multiplayer subscription; account settings can restrict multiplayer access.
Let a friend join your Bedrock game
Use this route when everyone is playing Bedrock and it is fine for the world to be available only while the host is playing. Minecraft’s Bedrock joining instructions require both players to be online and friends in Minecraft.
- Host: Sign in, start the world as an online game, and remain in the session.
- Joining friend: Open Minecraft, choose Play, open the Friends tab, and select the host under Joinable Friends.
If the host is not listed, check that both players are online and friends in Minecraft, and confirm the same edition, current versions, account sign-in, and multiplayer permissions.

Use a Realm when the world should remain available
A Realm is a hosted world that invited friends can access while its owner is offline. Choose the service for the players’ edition: Java and Bedrock Realms are separate. Invited members do not need to buy their own Realm subscription to join. Minecraft’s Realms page lists plans and capacities; its US product-page figures accessed October 3, 2026, are shown below. Prices and plan details can change and may vary by region.
| Plan listed by Minecraft | US price per month | Simultaneous players |
|---|---|---|
| Bedrock Realms | $3.99 USD | Host plus 2 players |
| Bedrock Realms Plus | $7.99 USD | Host plus 10 players |
| Java Realms | $7.99 USD | Host plus 10 players |
Check the current local plan terms before subscribing. The listed capacity is the number of players online simultaneously, including the host—not the total number of people who can be invited.

Share a Bedrock Realm link safely
In Minecraft, open Play, go to the Realm’s edit or member controls, and choose Share Link. Follow the in-game controls to copy and send the link. The exact controls can vary with the game interface; Minecraft’s share-link instructions explain link management.
A link is an access credential, not a private invitation tied only to one person. Minecraft warns: “Anyone who has this Share Link will be able to join your realm.” Send it privately rather than posting it publicly. If it reaches people you did not intend to invite, disable or remove it in Realm settings; the instructions also describe setting an expiration date. If a friend’s link fails, check that it is still active and unexpired and that the friend is using Bedrock.

Join a server instead of sharing your existing save
A community server gives players a shared multiplayer destination, but it does not necessarily host the world already saved on the host’s device. Bedrock players can browse featured options from the Servers tab and add a server. Minecraft’s multiplayer guidance covers the server route. Rules, moderation, availability, and control of the world depend on the server operator.

Troubleshoot connection problems
- The host’s world is missing: For direct Bedrock joining, make sure the host has started an online session and is online, and that both players are Minecraft friends.
- Players cannot see or join one another: Verify they launched the same edition and have current versions. Standard Java and Bedrock multiplayer do not connect to each other.
- A console player cannot connect: Check whether the platform requires an online multiplayer subscription and review the account’s multiplayer permissions. Child-account settings may block multiplayer.
- A Realm link does not work: Confirm the link is active and has not expired, and that the recipient is using the matching edition.
- Friends need access after the host leaves: A direct Bedrock session requires the host to remain online. Use a Realm for persistent access to the invited world.
