Choose access based on what the other person needs to do: invite them as a viewer to watch, give them commenter access or a review link to leave feedback, and reserve editor or manager permissions for people who must change the video or project. Before sharing, check the audience, download and comment settings, and test the link using the account or password the recipient will use.
Choose the right kind of access
Start with the recipient’s task, not the sharing button. Viewing, commenting, and editing are separate permissions; grant the narrowest one that works.
- Watch only: Give viewer or “Can view” access.
- Leave feedback: Use commenter access or a video review link with comments enabled. A review workflow can attach feedback to points in the video.
- Change the file or settings: Grant editor or manager access only if the person needs to make those changes.
- Manage a team project: Invite the person to the appropriate team or project, and check whether that access also covers a folder or other material.
Google Drive documents Viewer, Commenter, and Editor roles. Vimeo team sharing describes Can view, Can comment, and Can manage permissions. The exact controls available can depend on the service and plan, so check the current sharing panel before sending.
Choose who can open the video
For a small, known audience
Invite the intended people by email or add them through the relevant team or organization. This ties access to named recipients rather than relying on a link being kept private. Confirm which account they should use, especially if they have more than one.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a link you can send broadly
Link access is convenient, but a link may let anyone who obtains it view the video. In Google Drive, the owner can select “Anyone with the link” and assign a role. Google also notes that the owner’s name and email are visible to people receiving a shared file link. Review both the audience and role before copying the link.
Video hosts may offer privacy options such as unlisted or organization-restricted access. Those options have different conditions; select the intended mode rather than assuming that every share link behaves the same way. A link being unlisted or password-protected limits access, but it cannot stop an authorized viewer from capturing or redistributing what they can see.

How to share a video for review
If the recipient needs to comment on a cut, use a review link or review workflow rather than giving broad editing access. Vimeo describes review links for private, time-coded feedback. Its documentation says guests can be prompted for a name and email before posting feedback, without needing a Vimeo account or team seat.
- Open the video’s review-link settings. Check the review link itself; its settings may be separate from the video’s normal privacy settings.
- Set the feedback permissions. Decide whether recipients may comment, download, change status, or see previous versions. Enable only what the review requires.
- Set any access limits you need. Where offered, consider a password or disabling the link when feedback is complete. Vimeo says different review links for one video can have different settings.
- Test as a recipient. Open the link in a separate browser session or ask a colleague to check it. Confirm it opens with the expected identity or password and that the intended comment and download controls work.
Important: Vimeo says review-link access is not tied to the video’s individual privacy setting. A person with the review link can view the video regardless of that setting, so treat the review link as a separate access path. Vimeo’s help article lists Standard, Advanced, Pro, Business, Premium, or Enterprise as plans requiring review-link eligibility; plan names and availability can change, so verify current eligibility in your account.

Choose a sharing method for the job
| Need | Suitable approach | Check before sending |
|---|---|---|
| Send a video file to a known person | Invite them through a file-sharing service | Role, account restrictions, and whether owner information is visible |
| Share broadly with a simple link | Use link access through a file or video host | Who can view, download permissions, and available password or expiration controls |
| Get specific feedback on a cut | Use a review link or review workflow | Timestamped comments, guest access, downloads, expiration, password, and version history |
| Let a teammate manage a video or project | Invite them to the team or project | Scope of the role and whether it extends to a folder or project |
| Broadcast a playlist continuously | Use a service designed for continuous live streaming, not ordinary on-demand sharing | Whether the goal is a live broadcast rather than private playback or review |
What the common services are suited to
Google Drive for file sharing
Drive is a practical route for sharing an existing video file with role-based access. Its documented roles include Viewer, Commenter, and Editor. If you use “Anyone with the link,” consider that the owner’s name and email are visible to recipients of the shared file link.
Vimeo for hosting, team access, and review links
Vimeo documents video privacy options, team permissions, and separate review links with feedback controls. Check the selected privacy mode and review-link settings independently; do not assume one automatically governs the other.

Frame.io for project collaboration
Frame.io distinguishes sharing material for external review from adding someone as a project collaborator. Its cited support article is labeled legacy and describes controls such as passwords, expiration, comments, downloads, approval, and version access. Because that documentation is legacy, verify the current interface and available controls before relying on specific click-by-click directions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check the link before you send it
- Confirm the intended recipient can open the video using the expected account or password.
- Check that the permission is appropriate: view, comment, or edit/manage.
- Confirm whether comments and downloads are enabled, and whether the link expires.
- Share link-based access only with the intended audience; disable or revoke it when it is no longer needed if the service allows.
- For review links, inspect the review-link permissions separately from the video’s ordinary privacy setting.
Or let it run in the cloud

Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
