Short answer: the PS5 can join Discord voice chats, but its native Discord integration does not provide a documented way to broadcast PS5 gameplay directly into a Discord voice channel. To share gameplay with Discord users, either display the PS5 through PS Remote Play on a Windows PC or Mac and share that window in Discord, or use a capture card connected to a computer. If everyone watching is on PlayStation, the simpler option is PS5’s built-in Share Screen in a PlayStation party.
What you need to know first
PS5 Discord integration and PS5 Share Screen are different features. Discord integration is designed for voice chat: after linking your accounts, you can join a Discord voice channel from the PS5. Sony’s documented PlayStation-party Share Screen feature, meanwhile, lets you show your game screen and game audio to people in a PlayStation party.

That distinction is why you will not find a native Share Screen to Discord button on the PS5. The PS5 cannot send its gameplay feed directly into a Discord voice channel through the console’s Discord integration. You need a computer-based workaround.
| Method | Extra hardware | Best for | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS Remote Play + Discord | Windows PC or Mac; compatible controller | Casual sharing without buying a capture card | Additional latency and network dependence |
| Capture card + Discord or OBS | Capture card, computer, two HDMI cables for passthrough | Regular streaming and more reliable sharing | Costs more and requires extra setup |
| PS5 Party Share Screen | None | Viewing with PlayStation friends | It is not a Discord stream |
Method 1: Share your PS5 through PS Remote Play
PS Remote Play is the best no-extra-hardware route if you already own a Windows PC or Mac. The PS5 sends its display to the Remote Play app, and Discord shares the Remote Play window with your voice-channel viewers.

What you need
- A PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition.
- A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, or a supported Mac.
- The free PS Remote Play app.
- The same PlayStation Network account signed in on the PS5 and in Remote Play.
- A DualSense, DualSense Edge, or DUALSHOCK 4 controller connected to the computer. USB is normally the most dependable connection for PC or Mac Remote Play.
- A stable, high-speed internet connection. PlayStation lists 5 Mbps upload and download as the minimum and recommends at least 15 Mbps in each direction for a better experience.
Enable Remote Play on the PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Go to System > Remote Play.
- Turn on Enable Remote Play.
If you want Remote Play to wake the console while it is in Rest Mode, also open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable both Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
Connect the Remote Play app
- Install and open PS Remote Play on your Windows PC or Mac.
- Sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the console.
- Select your PS5 and wait for its screen to appear in the Remote Play window.
- Connect the controller to the computer and test that you can control the console and game.
Remote Play does not support every game or feature. Titles that require PS VR2 or other specialized peripherals may not work, and some protected media cannot be displayed. If the game depends on equipment that cannot be connected through Remote Play, use a capture-card setup instead.
Share the Remote Play window in Discord
- Open Discord on the same computer running PS Remote Play.
- Join a server voice channel or start a direct-call voice session.
- Click Screen or Share Your Screen, depending on the current Discord label.
- Select the PS Remote Play application window instead of the entire desktop whenever possible.
- Click Go Live or the equivalent start-stream button.
- Ask your friends to join the Discord stream.
Sharing only the Remote Play window keeps unrelated desktop content private. If Discord does not list the app, switch to sharing the entire screen, then close and reopen Discord or PS Remote Play and try again.

- Cost: no capture card is required.
- Convenience: it works with software already designed to control the PS5 remotely.
- Latency: the game is displayed through Remote Play before Discord captures it, so controls and video can feel less immediate.
- Quality: the result depends on the PS5-to-computer connection, the computer’s performance, and Discord’s stream settings. PlayStation’s 15 Mbps recommendation does not guarantee a particular Discord resolution or frame rate.
- Computer involvement: the computer must remain running Remote Play and Discord throughout the session.
For a game where reaction time matters, play from the TV or monitor connected to the PS5 if possible and use Remote Play primarily as the viewing feed. However, unlike a capture-card passthrough setup, Remote Play does not provide a direct HDMI display path.
Method 2: Use a PS5 capture card
A capture card receives the PS5’s HDMI gameplay output and makes it available as a video source on a computer. You can then share the capture-card preview directly in Discord or add the device to OBS Studio and share the OBS preview.
If you plan to share gameplay regularly, a PS5 capture card is usually the cleaner and more dependable setup. It does not create native PS5-to-Discord support: you still need a computer, suitable HDMI cables, capture-card software or OBS, and the correct PS5 video settings.

Typical capture-card connection
- Connect the PS5 HDMI output to the capture card’s HDMI In.
- Connect the capture card’s HDMI Out to your TV or monitor for passthrough.
- Connect the capture card to the computer by USB.
- Open the manufacturer’s capture software or OBS Studio.
- Confirm that the PS5 picture appears and that the capture device is receiving audio.
- Join Discord voice chat and share the capture preview or OBS window.
A passthrough setup lets you play from the TV or monitor instead of the delayed computer preview. It normally requires two HDMI cables: one from the PS5 to the capture card and another from the capture card to the display. If you need one for the setup, an HDMI cable for PS5 capture card passthrough should support the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use.
Turn off HDCP for gameplay capture
PS5 has HDCP enabled by default. Capture devices cannot capture an HDCP-protected signal, so a black preview is often caused by this setting.
- Connect the PS5 directly to the TV or monitor.
- On the PS5, open Settings > System > HDMI.
- Turn off Enable HDCP.
- Reconnect the PS5 to the capture card’s HDMI input.
HDCP protects certain media, including streaming services and movies. Disabling it is for capturing compatible gameplay; it is not a way to bypass content protection. Protected apps and media may remain unavailable to the capture device, and HDCP may need to be enabled again when you use those services.
Share the capture feed in Discord
- Open the capture-card manufacturer’s preview application or OBS Studio.
- Verify that the video and audio are visible in the preview.
- Open Discord and join a voice channel or direct-call voice session.
- Choose Screen or Share Your Screen.
- Select the capture preview or OBS window.
- Start the stream with Go Live or Discord’s equivalent control.
Sharing the application window is preferable when available. Sharing the whole desktop can expose other applications, notifications, or private information.
Capture-card troubleshooting
Black screen
- Check that Enable HDCP is off under Settings > System > HDMI.
- Make sure the PS5 is connected to the capture card’s HDMI In, not its HDMI Out.
- Confirm that the display and capture software are open and that the USB connection is secure.
No signal or flickering
Temporarily disable VRR or 120 Hz output on the PS5 and test at a lower resolution, such as 1080p. These settings can expose compatibility problems between the console, capture card, display, and HDMI cables. Once the signal is stable, re-enable settings one at a time to identify the limitation.

Video works but Discord has no audio
- Confirm that the capture device is selected as the audio source in the manufacturer’s software or OBS.
- Check that the preview itself contains audio before troubleshooting Discord.
- Review Discord’s input and output settings and make sure the correct desktop audio or application source is selected.
- Check the PS5’s audio-output configuration if the capture software receives no sound at all.
The stream is delayed
Use HDMI passthrough and play from the TV or monitor connected to the capture card’s HDMI Out. The computer preview is intended for capture and streaming, not necessarily for latency-sensitive play.

How to use PS5’s native Share Screen instead
If your viewers are PlayStation users, you do not need Discord for gameplay sharing.
- Join or start a PlayStation party.
- Open the party voice-chat card from the PS5 Control Center.
- Select the Share Screen icon.
- Choose Start Share Screen.
PS5 Share Screen shows the game screen and game audio. It does not show other screens or non-game app screens. Friends can receive a notification or find an active share through the Control Center and Game Base.
This is the closest native equivalent to what many people mean by “sharing your PS5 screen,” but it broadcasts to a PlayStation party—not to a Discord channel. You cannot use a Discord voice chat and a PlayStation party voice chat at the same time on the PS5, so choose the platform that matches your viewers.

How to link Discord to your PS5 for voice chat
Linking Discord is still useful when you only need voice communication.
- On the PS5, open the Control Center.
- Select Game Base > Discord > Link Account.
- Complete the account-linking steps.
You can also start the connection from Discord under User Settings > Connections. The PS5 should be updated to the latest available system software for Discord voice chat.
After linking, go to Game Base > Discord on the PS5 to join a server voice channel. You can also transfer an existing Discord voice chat from the Discord mobile or desktop app to the PS5. This changes where you hear and speak with friends; it does not add a gameplay screen-sharing control to the PS5.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
Which method should you choose?
- Choose Remote Play if you already have a Windows PC or Mac, want to avoid buying hardware, and can tolerate some additional latency.
- Choose a capture card if you share gameplay frequently, want HDMI passthrough, record with OBS, or need a more conventional streaming workflow.
- Choose PS5 Party Share Screen if all viewers use PlayStation and do not specifically need Discord.
Do not use a prerecorded-video or always-on livestream service as a solution for this task. Such services are designed for looping owned or rights-cleared video to platforms such as YouTube, not for real-time interactive PS5 gameplay sharing in Discord.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I share my PS5 screen directly to a Discord voice channel?
Not through the PS5’s documented native Discord integration. The console supports Discord voice chat, while its native Share Screen feature is for PlayStation parties. Use PS Remote Play on a computer or a capture card to share gameplay in Discord.
Do I need a capture card to stream PS5 gameplay to Discord?
No. If you have a Windows PC or Mac, PS Remote Play can display the PS5 and Discord can share the Remote Play window. A capture card is the better choice for regular streaming, passthrough, and lower-latency monitoring.
Why is my PS5 capture card showing a black screen?
First turn off HDCP at Settings > System > HDMI > Enable HDCP. Also confirm that the PS5 is connected to the capture card’s HDMI In. HDCP-protected media cannot be captured.
Can I use PS5 Share Screen and Discord voice chat at the same time?
The PS5 treats Discord voice chat and PlayStation party voice chat as separate systems, and Sony says they cannot be used simultaneously on the console. For native Share Screen, use a PlayStation party.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: PS5 Discord support is currently voice-focused, not a native gameplay-broadcast feature. Use PS Remote Play plus Discord for the free software workaround, or a capture card plus HDMI passthrough for a more reliable long-term setup. If your audience is on PlayStation, use the PS5’s built-in Party Share Screen instead.
