Keep the YouTube Live stream connected and switch what OBS sends: play each recorded sermon from a Media Source, then switch to a separate scene containing the Bible verse as an image or text. You do not need to end and restart the live stream for the handoff. Preview and test the full sequence before the service.
Prepare the sermon and verse scenes in OBS
Create a scene for the recorded sermon

In OBS, create a scene for the sermon and add a Media Source.

Select the recorded sermon file. OBS supports common video and audio file types; the exact formats supported are listed in the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.

Set playback behavior for the handoff. Leave Loop off if the sermon should play once. The Media Source also has an option to restart playback when the source becomes active, which can be useful if you return to that scene and want the recording to start from the beginning.

Check the source’s audio in OBS. The sermon recording’s sound is part of the Media Source, so confirm it is audible in the mixer and that the correct source is being sent to the stream.
Create a scene for the verse

Add a second scene for the Bible verse.

For a designed slide, add an Image source and select the prepared image. For editable words, add a Text source and enter the verse. OBS documents both source types.

Arrange the verse and any other slide elements in the preview. Check that the text is legible at the size viewers will see and that no important part is outside the frame.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live

In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast into OBS’s streaming settings. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream.

Start streaming from OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming feed and inspect the preview before you start the public broadcast.

When the picture and audio are ready, start the stream in YouTube Studio if the broadcast is scheduled to begin manually. Follow the Live Control Room status shown for your stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance describes using overlays and other elements in an encoder feed. In this workflow, the encoder remains connected while OBS changes scenes; the verse is part of the scene you send, not a separate YouTube broadcast.

Switch from the sermon to the verse and back

While the sermon is playing, select the verse scene in OBS at the point where you want the handoff. The YouTube stream continues while the outgoing scene changes.

Choose a scene transition in OBS. A Cut changes immediately; a Fade eases between scenes. Pick the transition that fits the service and verify its timing in a test.

When the verse segment is finished, select the next sermon scene. If its Media Source is configured to restart when active, check that it begins at the intended point; otherwise, confirm whether it resumes or continues according to your playback setup.
For hands-on control, select scenes in OBS during the service. OBS also supports hotkeys for scene switching, which can help an operator make the change from a keyboard. Set and test any hotkey in advance so it does not conflict with other shortcuts or trigger the wrong scene.

Choose the right handoff method

Test the complete sequence before the service

Run the actual sermon recording through OBS and check the Live Control Room preview for both picture and sound.

Switch to the verse scene, wait for the intended interval, and switch to the next sermon scene. Confirm that the transition and playback behavior are what you expect.

Listen at the handoff and make sure sermon audio does not continue unexpectedly over the verse slide or disappear when you return to the sermon.

If a picture or sound is missing, inspect the active scene and its sources in OBS, then check the incoming preview in Live Control Room again before going live.

YouTube recommends checking the encoder feed in the Live Control Room preview and testing the setup. A successful test on one computer does not establish that every sermon file or computer will play smoothly; verify the exact files and setup you plan to use.
