To sign out of YouTube on an Xbox, open the YouTube app, open its left navigation menu, select your profile picture, choose the account, and select Sign out. If the Xbox is shared, lent out, sold, or given away, choose Remove Account instead so the account is no longer listed in the app. YouTube also provides two remote options: sign out the Xbox from Google Account device activity, or remove the console’s access under Google Account permissions for YouTube on TV.
YouTube sign-out and Xbox profile sign-out are separate. Signing out the Microsoft/Xbox profile does not replace signing out of the YouTube app, and Microsoft’s account-wide Sign out everywhere feature specifically excludes Xbox consoles.

Sign out of YouTube directly on an Xbox
Use this method when you have the console in front of you and only want to end the current YouTube session.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Turn on the Xbox and open the YouTube app.
- Open the app’s left navigation menu.
- Select your profile picture. This opens the YouTube accounts page.
- Select the account you want to disconnect.
- Choose Sign out.
After sign-out, the account should no longer be the active YouTube session on that Xbox. If more than one Google account is listed, check the accounts page before leaving: signing out one account does not automatically remove every other account shown there.

When to choose Remove Account instead
Sign out ends the active session but leaves the account available in the app’s account list. Choose Remove Account from the same account page when the Xbox is used by other people or is changing hands. This is the appropriate local cleanup for a shared console, a borrowed console being returned, or an Xbox that has been sold or given away.
Removing the account from the YouTube app is not the same as deleting the Google Account. It removes that account’s YouTube-on-that-console entry; it does not erase the account, channel, subscriptions, watch history, or other Google data.
Which YouTube option should you use?
| Situation | Best action | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| You are temporarily finished watching on your own Xbox | Sign out | Ends the YouTube session while leaving the account available in the app’s account list. |
| The Xbox is shared, lent out, or staying with someone else | Remove Account | Removes the account from the YouTube app on that console. |
| You no longer have the Xbox | Use Google Account device activity or remove YouTube on TV access | Disconnects the account remotely from devices using the YouTube on TV app. |
| You need to disconnect the Microsoft/Xbox user profile | Use the Xbox guide’s Profile & system > Sign out | Signs out the Xbox profile; this is separate from YouTube. |
Sign out of YouTube on an Xbox you no longer have
If the Xbox is unavailable, use Google’s account controls rather than relying on the console. YouTube documents two remote routes. The first targets the individual device; the second removes YouTube-on-TV access for the account.
Option 1: Sign out the Xbox from Google Account device activity
- Open your Google Account’s device-activity page on a phone or computer.
- Find the Xbox in the list of devices or sessions.
- Select the Xbox entry to view its details.
- Choose Sign out and confirm if prompted.
This is the most focused remote choice when you can identify the particular Xbox. Review the device name and activity details carefully before confirming, especially if you own more than one Xbox.

Option 2: Remove access for YouTube on TV
- Open your Google Account permissions or connected-app controls.
- Find YouTube on TV in the list of services with account access.
- Select Remove access.
- Confirm the removal.
YouTube states: “Removing access will sign you out of any device using the YouTube on TV app with that account.” That makes this the broader option. It is useful when you cannot identify the old Xbox, when several televisions or consoles may still be connected, or when you want to invalidate YouTube-on-TV sessions across your devices.
Removing YouTube on TV access affects devices using that YouTube television application. It is not a request to delete your Google Account, and it is not the same as signing out of every Google service on every device.
Why Microsoft “Sign out everywhere” does not solve this
Microsoft’s account-wide Sign out everywhere control signs the Microsoft account out of browsers, apps, and other locations within 24 hours, but Microsoft says the feature does not sign the account out of an Xbox console. Therefore, do not use that control as your only response when your goal is to disconnect YouTube from an Xbox.
For a missing or transferred Xbox, use one of YouTube’s remote controls: sign out the specific Xbox in Google Account device activity, or remove YouTube on TV access. If you still have the console, perform the local YouTube sign-out or account removal as well.

YouTube sign-out versus Xbox profile sign-out
An Xbox can have a Microsoft/Xbox profile signed in while a different Google account remains signed in inside the YouTube app. These are two independent sessions.
Sign out the Xbox profile
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Choose Profile & system.
- Choose Sign out.
This signs out the selected Xbox profile. It does not perform the YouTube app’s account-page sign-out described above, so handle both accounts when preparing a shared or transferred console.
Why both actions may be necessary
If you only sign out the Xbox profile, another person may still find a YouTube account stored in the YouTube app. If you only sign out YouTube, your Microsoft/Xbox profile may remain available on the console. Decide whether you are protecting one app, the whole Xbox profile, or both, then use the corresponding control for each.

- In YouTube, open the profile picture and choose Remove Account for every Google account that should not remain listed.
- Sign out the Xbox profile through Xbox button > Profile & system > Sign out.
- Check whether any additional Xbox profiles or Google accounts are still present.
- If the console has already left your possession, use Google Account device activity or remove YouTube on TV access remotely.
- Review saved-password and automatic-sign-in settings. A password stored on the console could allow another user to sign back in even after a session is closed.
Account removal is therefore stronger than a quick session sign-out for a transferred console, but it should be paired with Xbox-profile cleanup and remote access removal when you cannot verify the console’s current state.

The account still appears in the list
You may have selected Sign out rather than Remove Account. Return to the YouTube profile picture, select the account, and choose Remove Account if the goal is to remove the listing from that Xbox.
You signed out the wrong account
Open the accounts page again and identify the account by its displayed name or email before selecting an action. On a console with several accounts, repeat the process for each account that should be removed.
You used Microsoft Sign out everywhere
That action does not include Xbox consoles. Use Google Account device activity to sign out the Xbox, or remove YouTube on TV access. If the Xbox is available, use the YouTube app’s own account page.

The old Xbox is missing from device activity
Use the broader YouTube on TV > Remove access route. YouTube says this signs the account out of any device using the YouTube on TV app, so it does not depend on locating one particular Xbox entry.
Someone can still access the account later
Check whether the account was only signed out or actually removed from the app. On a shared or transferred console, choose Remove Account, sign out the Xbox profile, and review saved-password settings. For a console you no longer control, remove YouTube on TV access remotely.
What happens to your YouTube data?
Signing out changes access on the Xbox; it does not delete the Google Account or YouTube profile. Your subscriptions, channel, watch history, playlists, and recommendations remain associated with the account and can be used again after signing in on an authorized device.
Remove Account is a local account-list cleanup on the Xbox app. It is not account deletion. Likewise, removing YouTube on TV access is an access revocation for television and console app sessions, not a request to close the Google Account.
Do not confuse sign-out with Xbox video capability
YouTube’s Xbox support information also distinguishes console video capabilities by model: 4K playback is supported on Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, while the original Xbox One has a maximum resolution of 1080p. Those playback limits do not affect the sign-out procedure. If the issue is resolution rather than account access, identify the Xbox model separately; changing playback quality will not sign you out, and signing out will not change the console’s maximum resolution.
Quick Recap
Quick decision checklist
- Console in hand, temporary privacy: YouTube app > left menu > profile picture > account > Sign out.
- Console shared or sold: Use Remove Account, then sign out the Xbox profile.
- Console unavailable: Google Account device activity > Xbox > Sign out.
- Several TV or console sessions may be active: Google Account permissions > YouTube on TV > Remove access.
- Trying Microsoft Sign out everywhere: Do not rely on it for Xbox; Microsoft excludes Xbox consoles from that control.
