Correction: October 4, 2024 was NYT Strands game #215, not #214. The October 4 theme was “Driver’s catch-all,” and its spangram was GLOVEBOX. Game #214 was played on October 3, with the theme “Hairy styles.” Spoilers follow, with hints first.

Why the title’s game number is different
The date and number in the assignment title point to different puzzles. The archive and answer guides identify October 3, 2024 as game #214, themed “Hairy styles,” with SHORTCUTS as its spangram. Its theme words were BUZZ, FADE, FAUXHAWK, FLATTOP, PAGEBOY, PIXIE, and SHAG.
