Where to find the Counting House vault
The Counting House is in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate. Head Clerk Meadhoney can provide a pass to enter the vault area after an appropriate conversation or check; this is one documented route, and access may depend on your quest progress and approach. The code clue is in the Head Banker’s Office.
How to enter the 1-3-5-6 code
- At the vault door, locate the nine floor plates.
- Ungroup the party if you want to move one character at a time and reduce the risk of pathing across a wrong plate.
- Step on the top-left plate.
- Step on the top-right plate.
- Step on the center plate.
- Step on the middle-right plate.
The positions correspond to 1, 3, 5, and 6 in the sequence. The ledger’s reference to an event in 1356 is the clue. A wrong plate resets your progress, so move carefully and use the listed positions rather than testing the other panels. Prima Games’ walkthrough identifies the plate order and reset behavior.
Can you bypass the floor puzzle?
Yes. Reported in-game alternatives include creating water on the floor and dealing lightning damage to it to short-circuit the door, or attempting a very difficult lockpick check. These are optional bypasses; use the plate sequence if you want to solve the puzzle as intended. The BG3 Wiki’s Counting House entry describes the alternatives.
