There are two Five-Finger Mountain Ancient Ruins puzzles in Pailune: Valley Ruins and Icy Ruins. Check which one you are at before following the steps: Valley is the statue-and-door challenge; Icy is the ice-and-block challenge.
Identify which Five-Finger Mountain ruins you found
The Valley Ruins and Icy Ruins are separate Ancient Ruins challenges. PowerPyx lists Icy as challenge 16 and Valley as challenge 17. Use the nearby landmark to tell them apart before starting: Valley is northeast of Whisperleaf Fortress, while Icy is west of the Cloister of Ruination, on the other side of the mountain. PowerPyx’s Ancient Ruins guide lists both locations and their solutions.

Valley Ruins: open the doors and align the statues
- Push the blocks or stone mechanisms toward the statues on the far side, moving them to their endpoints. This opens the doors temporarily.
- While a door is open, shoot the statue behind it to rotate it until the correct item faces forward.
- Set the statues from left to right to axe, sword, shield. A statue turns blue when correctly aligned.
The doors only stay open temporarily, so use each opening to aim and rotate the statue behind it. The walkthroughs consulted do not establish that the target sequence varies by platform or game version. GameSpot’s puzzle walkthrough also describes moving the mechanisms and shooting the statues.

- Use Turning Slash to break the ice covering the pool.
- Break the ice at the side outlet with Turning Slash as well. The water drains, giving you access to the pool.
- Use Sword Stab to move the blocks into the correct image.
The image clue places the block with the human figure in the center, with white segments toward the center and brown segments toward the edges. The written walkthrough does not specify every block’s final position; GameSpot shows the complete arrangement in an accompanying solution image rather than transcribing it as a coordinate-by-coordinate layout. Consult its Icy Ruins solution image if you need the exact placement.

What completing an Ancient Ruins challenge gives you
The general Ancient Ruins guide associates solving a challenge with activating a nearby Abyss Cresset and receiving an Abyss Artifact and a fast-travel point. The Five-Finger Mountain Icy and Valley challenges are listed as Ancient Ruins 16 and 17, respectively, in PowerPyx’s guide.
