A route cannot reuse a node used by another. You’ll find the console in the southeast of the Necrotic Laboratory in the Mind Flayer Colony, late in Act Two.
Where to find the Neural Node puzzle
In the Mind Flayer Colony, go to the southeast part of the Necrotic Laboratory and interact with the neural console to project the brain map. The puzzle is also called the brain mapping or mind-brain connection puzzle.
How to connect the four brain faculties
- Select one of the four faculties: Speech, Emotion, Memory, or Reason.
- Trace a path through the intervening nodes to the matching faculty at the far side of the map.
- Repeat for the other three faculties, keeping every route separate. No node can be shared between paths.
The routes weave around one another, so solve one connection at a time and check that it reaches the identical faculty at the other end. If you want a visual reference, use an overhead view to make the completed paths easier to trace; the written instructions alone do not establish a reliable node-by-node sequence. Controller input
If nodes do not respond while using a controller, try entering interaction mode with L3, then choose “Use” on each node. Input behavior can vary with platform configuration.

What solving the puzzle unlocks
Completing the map grants access to the Waking Mind and the nearby reward area. A character with the Sage background can also receive the “Brain Blast!” inspiration.
The Waking Mind can be placed in the nearby Mind Archive Interface. Choosing to purge it grants the interacting character Githzerai Mind Barrier, which gives advantage on Intelligence saving throws. The PC Gamer walkthrough describes this follow-up choice and reward.
