To spot enemies in Battlefield 6, keep moving your attention between the battlefield and minimap, check corners and elevated sightlines, and use Recon’s spotting trait and gadgets when available. Ordinary visual awareness helps every class; Recon’s Passive Spot and Recon equipment add specific ways to reveal enemy positions.
How to find enemies with any class
Do not fix your attention on one sightline. Scan corners, windows, rooftops and distant approaches, and use angles or cover that let you check an area without exposing yourself unnecessarily. EA’s New Player Guide recommends keeping your head up for distant enemies, consulting the minimap for nearby enemy locations, and positioning yourself where your primary weapon is effective.
Sound can help you judge where activity is coming from, but pair it with what you can see and the minimap rather than treating it as a precise enemy marker. Avoid predictable, exposed movement: a quick scan from cover or a different angle is often more useful than crossing open ground while watching one direction.
What the different spotting methods tell you

It can detect enemies around objectives, corners and multilevel buildings, but does not show which floor they are on. | Check a nearby area when you suspect enemies are close but cannot see around a corner or through a building. |

How to use Recon’s Passive Spot
EA’s Recon class guide describes the trait simply: “Spot enemies by aiming at them.” It is a Recon trait, not a universal automatic ability for every class. Aim down sights at an enemy and give the spot time to register; movement and zoom affect how quickly and at what distance it works.

For a distant target, more zoom can help, while staying relatively still or moving slowly gives the trait better conditions than rushing past the target. If you do not get a spot, do not assume the enemy is absent: use your own visual scan, minimap awareness and available Recon equipment as separate sources of information.
Choose Recon tools for the space
Motion Sensor: nearby uncertainty
The Motion Sensor is useful when enemies may be close but are screened by a corner, objective area or building. Its repeated pulses cover a small nearby radius. In a multilevel building, it may tell you enemies are nearby without telling you which floor to search.

Throwable Proximity Detector: rooms and objectives
The Throwable Proximity Detector can reveal positions around objectives and in small rooms. It suits compact areas where checking for enemies before entering can change how you approach.
UAV Overwatch: a marked area
UAV Overwatch passively reveals enemies on the minimap around a marked position for the Recon player and squad. Use that shared minimap information to coordinate attention on the area; it is not the same as directly seeing an enemy through a wall.

Visibility, smoke and reticles
Enemy readability and spotting near smoke have received official adjustments. EA’s update 1.3.2.0 notes describe improved enemy contrast and silhouette definition across environments, as well as more consistent spotting and pinging near smoke’s perceived edge. The notes explicitly say these changes do not reduce smoke’s blocking effect, so do not rely on spotting to see through smoke.
EA’s update 1.4.3.0 notes say reticles were refined across optics, launchers and gadgets for cleaner visuals and improved readability against varied backgrounds. That is not evidence that one optic is universally best for spotting; choose a sight that remains legible to you in the situation.

Controls and pings
Button bindings are customizable, so there is no single platform-wide control instruction that is safe to assume for every player. Check the current controls and in-game help on your platform for the binding you use to mark or ping an enemy. A fixed ping duration or full account of non-Recon marker behavior is not established by the official guidance cited here.
