To start a multiplayer Expedition in ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN, interact with the central table in Roundtable Hold, set the player count under Matchmaking Setting, then return to Target and select Commence Expedition. You can use open matchmaking or set a password to play with friends; cooperative play requires an internet connection.
Start a multiplayer Expedition
- Open the Expedition interface. In Roundtable Hold, interact with the central table, also called the Table of Lost Grace in the official starter guide.
- Choose Matchmaking Setting. Use the interface’s tab prompts to switch from Target to Matchmaking Setting.
- Set Number of Players. Choose solo, duo, or three players. Three-player co-op is the default multiplayer setup.
- Choose how to find players. Leave passwords unset for regular matchmaking, or set a multiplayer password to coordinate with friends. Community passwords can prioritize random matchmaking with players using the same community password. For password matching, share the password exactly; it is case-sensitive.
- Launch the search. Return to Target, select the Expedition target, then choose Commence Expedition.
The game remembers your settings for later Expeditions. If you begin searching by mistake, reopen the table interface and select Cancel Expedition before matchmaking finishes. These steps and labels are from Bandai Namco’s Duo Expeditions instructions, dated 31 July 2025.

How to play Nightreign with friends
Set a shared multiplayer password in Matchmaking Setting before you commence the Expedition, and make sure each player selects the same Expedition target. A password is an in-game matchmaking setting, not an external invite link. You do not need to summon friends in Roundtable Hold: the publisher’s instructions explain that players remain solo there, even while online, and meet through Expedition matchmaking.
Nightreign’s default multiplayer setup is a three-player team, and the publisher describes the game as primarily balanced for cooperative play with two other players. You can choose a smaller party, including a duo, through Number of Players.

Why can’t we matchmake?
If a password party cannot connect, check each of these settings before trying again:
- Password: Everyone entered the same case-sensitive password.
- Platform: Everyone is on a compatible platform family. PS4 and PS5 can play together; Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S can play together. PlayStation, Xbox, and PC do not crossplay.
- Mode and target: Each player selected Multiplayer Mode, not Single Player Mode, and chose the same boss or Expedition target.
- Versions and matchmaking settings: All players have current app and regulation versions and matching settings, including the out-of-region matchmaking setting.
- Remembrance progress: If several players are advancing Remembrance missions, have only one party member progress personal goals on Limveld at a time. The publisher advises that this player start matchmaking first.
These checks are from the official Nightreign FAQ and matchmaking troubleshooting guidance. If regular matchmaking does not find players, the publisher suggests exiting the match and restarting the game. If password matchmaking still fails, it suggests using platform-specific party features.

What you need to know before launching
- Co-op needs an internet connection. Solo play is available online or offline.
- Being online in Roundtable Hold does not put you in a party. Multiplayer starts when you configure and commence an Expedition.
- Cross-generation play is limited to each console family. PS4 can match with PS5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S; there is no official crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
- The original Elden Ring is not required. Nightreign is a standalone game.
