The Trials are woven into regular runs rather than launched from a separate DLC mode. On Steam, the expansion requires the base game.
What you need before starting
- The base game: On Steam, Hallowed Concepts requires Risk of Rain 2. Install the DLC through your platform’s game or library tools; the official materials do not establish one universal menu path for installing or enabling it.
- The expansion: Hallowed Concepts released on October 8, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, according to 2K’s October 8 patch notes and the Steam product listing.
How to access the Trials
- Launch Risk of Rain 2 and start a run.
- Explore the stages and look for a gong. The developer says N’Kuhana’s followers place them in stages, but has not published a guaranteed location for each gong.
- Approach the gong and review the Trial objective shown by the game. Ring it when you are ready to enter that Trial.
- Complete the objective to earn its reward. In a reward area, you may be able to ring another gong to begin a further Trial.
The Trials are part of existing runs, not a separate path you select from a launch menu. The official preview describes three families—Winnowings of Survival, Predation, and Mortality—and gives examples including breaking lanterns in Trial of Broken Glass, turning a fortune before time runs out in Trial of Infernal Greed, and “feeding” the fog in Trial of the Abyss. The objective and reward vary by Trial.

Should you chain another Trial?
Trials started in sequence share a timer, according to the Risk of Rain 2 Team’s Trials preview. Before ringing another gong in a reward area, consider how much time remains, whether your current build suits the next objective, and whether continuing is worth the risk. The announcement confirms the shared timer but does not give a universal rule for when to continue.

On Steam, one player owning Hallowed Concepts enables its monsters, levels, and items to appear for the whole lobby. A player who does not own it cannot select its new Survivors or permanently unlock DLC content, including new items and logbooks, according to the Steam listing. These ownership details are documented for Steam; check your platform’s current listing for its terms.

What Hallowed Concepts adds
2K’s October 8, 2026 patch notes describe Hallowed Concepts as purchasable DLC4. The expansion includes two Survivors—Enforcer, unlocked by default, and unlockable Acolyte—as well as the N’Tormat Curio, new enemies and bosses, standard and Trial stages, interactables, Hexes, Hallowed Items, standard items, skins, and music. The same patch also includes free base-game updates, so not every change in the patch notes is exclusive to the paid expansion.
The patch notes specify 3 new enemies, 3 new bosses, 3 new standard stages, 14 Hexes, 11 Hallowed Items, and 3 new standard items. These are the categories and counts stated by 2K; they should not be treated as a combined total of all DLC content.
