Streamlabs Desktop does not document a separate Safe Mode for launching the app. The phrase can mean either Streamlabs’ chat-protection feature or Windows Safe Mode, which starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. If Streamlabs is failing to launch, use its app-specific troubleshooting steps rather than assuming Windows Safe Mode is a supported Streamlabs fix.
Does Streamlabs Desktop have a Safe Mode?
Streamlabs’ Safe Mode is a stream and chat safety feature, not a diagnostic startup mode for the desktop application. Streamlabs describes it as a way to help prevent harassment, hateful messages and chat spam. It clears recent events and queued alerts, disables follower alerts, and, when used with Cloudbot, can apply chat restrictions.
That feature is intended to protect a live stream and its chat. It does not launch Streamlabs Desktop with reduced settings or diagnose an app startup failure.
How to start Windows in Safe Mode
If you need Windows Safe Mode to troubleshoot the operating system, Microsoft’s Startup Settings route applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft explains that “Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers.” These steps change how Windows starts; they are not a Streamlabs feature.

- Enter the Windows Recovery Environment. If you can sign in to Windows, open Settings > System > Recovery and select Restart now next to Advanced startup. You can also reach recovery options through Windows’ sign-in screen by holding Shift while selecting Power > Restart.
- From the recovery menus, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After Windows restarts to the Startup Settings list, choose the Safe Mode option shown on screen. If you need network access, choose Safe Mode with Networking; Microsoft says this mode adds the network drivers and services required for internet and network access.
Menu wording can vary slightly by Windows version. The Startup Settings list offers the available startup choices; selecting one starts Windows in that mode.
If Streamlabs Desktop is stuck or crashes at startup
Streamlabs’ published troubleshooting covers app problems such as crashes, but does not establish Windows Safe Mode as a supported fix for starting Streamlabs Desktop. Start with the step that matches the symptom.

It behaves as if it is launching for the first time
For this repeated first-run behavior, Streamlabs advises closing the application and ending lingering processes before reopening it:
- Close Streamlabs Desktop.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- End any lingering processes named Streamlabs, Electron, Obs64, Crash Handler or Crash_Handler.
- Reopen Streamlabs Desktop.

- Update your graphics and other relevant drivers.
- Reinstall Streamlabs Desktop; run the installer as administrator.
- Try launching the application as administrator.
- Check that firewall or antivirus controls allow Streamlabs Desktop to run.
If you can open the app, Streamlabs also describes enabling additional crash reporting under Settings > Get Support. If the documented steps do not resolve the issue, request a diagnostic report or submit a support ticket.
Do not treat clearing the cache as a harmless first step
Streamlabs’ Clear Cache and Restart option starts the app from scratch and wipes user data. Its related troubleshooting guidance warns that clearing cache could lose scene collections and settings. Preserve your configuration and consult Streamlabs support before considering a reset.
