Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →First identify what is restarting: if the YouTube watch page goes offline and comes back, troubleshoot the broadcast connection; if the live stream stays up but the same prerecorded clip begins again, check the playlist or playout loop. Those are different problems, and there is no single YouTube setting that fixes both.
Check whether the broadcast or only the video restarts
YouTube’s Live API distinguishes a broadcast—the event or watch page—from the incoming stream of audio and video. That distinction helps narrow the fault:
- The broadcast stops: viewers see the stream go offline, the watch page ends, or a new live session starts. Inspect the encoder-to-YouTube connection and broadcast settings.
- The broadcast remains live but the clip starts over: the feed is still arriving, but the video source has reached the end of its playlist or repeated an item. Inspect the software or hosted service controlling playout.
- Only your playback position changes: this may be DVR behavior, not a restart. With DVR enabled, viewers can pause or rewind and later continue from where they paused.
Without knowing which symptom you have—and which encoder or service sends the feed—it is not possible to name a universal cause.
If the broadcast goes offline and returns
1. Check the stream in Live Control Room
While the stream is running or after it drops, check its status in YouTube Live Control Room. Look for whether YouTube is still receiving video and whether the broadcast is live, ended, or waiting for an incoming feed. Compare that status with what viewers see on the watch page.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Verify the encoder destination and stream key
In the encoder, confirm that the server URL and stream key match the intended YouTube stream. YouTube instructs creators to enter the Live server URL and stream key into the encoder. Its Help documentation describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address,” so do not share the key publicly. If you reset it, update the encoder with the new key.
For setup details, see YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Manage live stream settings.
3. Review auto-start and auto-stop
YouTube’s settings documentation describes auto-start and auto-stop options that let an encoder start or stop streaming. With auto-start enabled, YouTube starts a broadcast when video begins arriving on its bound stream; with auto-stop enabled, the broadcast ends about a minute after video transmission stops. Check whether those settings match how you intend to run the channel. They affect broadcast behavior, but their presence alone does not prove they caused a restart.

If the encoder stops sending video even briefly, auto-stop may end the broadcast. Check the encoder’s connection status and logs around the interruption, then follow the encoder vendor’s troubleshooting guidance if it reports an error.

4. Treat archiving as a separate issue
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archiving rule, not evidence that every stream restarts when it reaches 12 hours; YouTube’s setup documentation does not establish that crossing the threshold forces a restart.
If the live broadcast stays up but the clip starts again
Check the source that is feeding the encoder: playlist order, repeat or loop settings, and any scheduled playout rules. If the source is a hosted streaming service, inspect its playlist and playback controls. YouTube’s encoder and Live Control Room documentation explains stream ingest and broadcast behavior; it does not document a universal control for disabling repeat in every third-party player.

If a single uploaded clip is being replayed continuously, replay may be the intended playout behavior rather than a YouTube failure. To prevent that specific clip from starting again, change the repeat or playlist behavior in the software or service supplying it, if that option is available. If the broadcast itself is also ending, use the connection checks above as well.
Check the encoder setup you rely on
YouTube supports both software applications and standalone hardware encoders. Neither category is automatically a fix for a looping source or an unstable connection. When choosing or reviewing an encoder, check whether it supports your input and unattended operation, how you can inspect its status or logs, and what it does after a connection interruption. YouTube’s overview confirms the two encoder categories but does not rank products or establish that a particular encoder will reconnect in a particular way.
Livestream gives its own enterprise customers guidance about periodically restarting linear channels, including a recommendation for its service. That is vendor-specific operational advice, not a YouTube requirement or a general restart interval for other encoders.

Stream a prerecorded playlist continuously from the cloud
If the problem is keeping prerecorded videos playing while your own computer is off, a hosted playout service is an alternative to managing a local encoder. StreamNeo is #1 here because it keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud, plays uploaded videos and playlists, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
To use StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams and uploaded videos; it does not start a live camera feed. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. All plans have the same product; only the billing length changes. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo avoids leaving a computer on at home. It streams uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; after that, the monthly option is $9.99 per month.

Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The watch page goes offline, then returns | Live Control Room status, encoder connection, server URL, current stream key, and auto-start/auto-stop settings | Confirm the encoder is sending to the intended stream with the current key; inspect its logs around the drop. |
| The live indicator remains, but the same clip begins again | Playlist order, repeat setting, and playout behavior in the source software or hosted service | Change the source’s repeat or playlist behavior if you want the clip to stop replaying. |
| The encoder will not start after a key change | Whether the encoder still has the old stream key | Copy the current key from Live Control Room and update the encoder. YouTube’s troubleshooting guide covers encoder start errors. |
| You connect to streaming software using account login rather than a stream key | The software’s own sign-in and connection status | YouTube directs users of third-party streaming software connected through account login to contact that software’s support. |
| The stream ends near a long-session milestone | Whether the encoder stopped sending video, rather than assuming the archive limit caused it | YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its documentation does not say that reaching 12 hours automatically restarts every broadcast. |
Copyright and channel-policy checks for prerecorded streams
Before running a continuous stream of prerecorded material, make sure you have the rights to use the video and audio and that your channel complies with YouTube’s rules. A technically stable feed does not establish that the content is permitted or eligible for monetization. Reusing content without the necessary rights or meaningful original contribution can create separate copyright or monetization concerns; changing a loop setting will not resolve those issues.
Use this copyright safety checklist to review the rights questions before going live.
