The method differs between Java and Bedrock, and demolishing the tower alone is not a reliable fix.
First, identify your edition
Outpost spawning is not simply a mob spawner inside the tower. The structure is associated with spawning rules that can continue to apply after the tower is removed. Java and Bedrock use different descriptions of where outpost pillagers can appear, so avoid assuming that a fix for one edition will work in the other.
| Edition | Where to focus | Practical approach |
|---|---|---|
| Java Edition | The outpost-associated spawn area, on valid opaque blocks other than leaves. A Minecraft Wiki search result describes spawning at block light level 8 or lower, but does not establish a complete version-specific recipe. Minecraft Wiki | Make usable surfaces non-spawnable. Lighting may help when it meets the rules for your game version; use block changes rather than relying on an unverified universal lighting pattern. |
| Bedrock Edition | A particular location associated with the outpost. A Minecraft Wiki search result describes pillagers selecting the highest opaque block with a non-solid block above it, at or below a particular outpost location. Minecraft Wiki | Find and alter the candidate spawn location and the blocks that satisfy that rule. If spawning continues, check guidance for your exact Bedrock version. |
How to spawn-proof the outpost
- Clear the area you intend to make safe. Inspect the outpost and nearby candidate surfaces, including ground around the tower. An outpost tutorial recommends removing grass or sand and lighting the area for its scenario; that is not a guarantee for every edition or version. Minecraft outpost tutorial
- Change the spawn surfaces. Cover or replace blocks pillagers can use with appropriate partial blocks or other blocks that prevent spawning. In Java, concentrate on valid opaque surfaces in the outpost spawn area. In Bedrock, identify the particular candidate location described for that edition.
- Use light as a supporting measure, not a universal recipe. Light can suppress spawns when it satisfies the applicable rules, but the available guidance does not establish one lighting level or placement pattern that works across both editions and all versions.
- Check the result in play. If pillagers continue appearing, inspect for an untreated valid surface or candidate location, and confirm the instructions match your edition and version. Tower demolition by itself is not dependable: community discussion reports spawning continuing after destruction. Minecraft community discussion
Why demolishing the tower is not enough
The tower is a structure associated with the spawning behavior, not necessarily the sole block or object responsible for it. Removing it may leave the relevant spawn conditions intact. Treat the blocks and location used by the spawning rule as the target of the fix, rather than expecting demolition to disable the outpost.
Outpost spawns are not the same as patrols
Spawn-proofing an outpost addresses pillagers generated by its outpost rules. Patrols are a separate mechanic and may appear away from an outpost under player-relative conditions. Seeing a patrol after securing the area does not by itself mean your outpost spawn-proofing failed. Minecraft Wiki: Patrol
