You can narrow a Sim’s autonomous Romantic and Flirty interactions by changing their Sexual Orientation: in Create a Sim, set “exploring romantically” to No. That limits those interactions to genders the Sim is attracted to, but it does not prevent flirting with everyone within that attraction range.
Limit who a Sim autonomously flirts with
- Open Create a Sim and select the three-dot menu beneath the gender icons.
- Choose Sexual Orientation and review the genders selected under romantic attraction.
- Set “exploring romantically” to No if you want to limit autonomous Romantic and Flirty interactions to genders the Sim is attracted to.
EA’s Sexuality and Romance guide explains that with exploration set to No, “Your Sim will only have Romantic and Flirty autonomous interactions with the gender they’re attracted to.” This is a limit on the eligible genders, not a universal flirt-off switch. A Sim may still flirt autonomously with Sims in their attraction range.

What other settings do—and don’t—control
Romantic Boundaries affect jealousy
Romantic Boundaries determine whether a Sim feels jealous when a romantic partner engages in physical romance, non-physical romance, or WooHoo or Mess Around with someone else. EA describes them as jealousy settings, not controls for preventing a Sim from initiating autonomous flirtation.
Lovestruck Romance Dynamics are pair-specific
If you have The Sims 4 Lovestruck, Romance Dynamics can shape how two Sims interact autonomously in Live Mode. EA lists Wholesome, Steamy, Strained, and Unpredictable dynamics. They apply to a pair of Sims, rather than serving as a global limit on flirting.

Check what recent updates changed
EA’s September 22, 2026 update, “Sul Sul, Smarter Sims!”, describes broader autonomy improvements and relationship balancing. It adds a cooldown to serenading and tunes Lovestruck Relationship Satisfaction and Growing Together Family Dynamics. The notes do not announce a setting or fix that disables all autonomous flirting. The listed versions are PC 1.128.90.1030, Mac 1.128.90.1230, and Console 2.39.
Don’t confuse flirting with Neighborhood Stories
Neighborhood Stories is a separate system for autonomous life changes involving neighboring Sims outside your active household. EA’s Neighborhood Stories overview lists changes such as career decisions, having a baby with a partner, promotions, and accepting a marriage proposal, as well as relationship-building activity. Flirting is not among the listed life changes, so Neighborhood Stories is not a documented control for stopping it.

What about Free Love or mods?
Players sometimes suggest checking the Free Love Neighborhood Action Plan or using MC Command Center’s MC Tuner. Current authoritative documentation for their present effects and steps is not established here, so treat them as leads to investigate in your own game rather than confirmed fixes. Likewise, a current official menu path for disabling all autonomy is not established. Avoid assuming Romantic Boundaries or Neighborhood Stories provides that control.
