You can stream a 10-hour rain recording on YouTube Live by sending it from an encoder connected to your YouTube stream. To make the channel run 24/7, configure the source or encoder to repeat continuously and plan to monitor and recover the feed; YouTube’s setup process sends your feed but does not provide a built-in switch that loops an uploaded file forever.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its general guidance also says streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A 10-hour rain audio recording and, for a conventional YouTube Live video feed, a visual to accompany it. Confirm you own or have permission to use both the audio and visuals.
- An encoder that can send a supported feed to YouTube and repeat your source, plus an internet connection with sustained upload capacity and headroom above your selected stream bitrate.
- A plan to monitor the stream and restart the encoder or source if it stops. A truly continuous channel needs an operating playback setup, not just a scheduled 10-hour event.
Prepare the rain recording and check rights
Use an audio file that is complete, plays cleanly from start to finish, and can be repeated by your chosen playback or encoder setup. If you add a still image, animation, or other video, check its rights too. The fact that a sound is rain ambience—or that a file is described as a stock loop—does not establish that it is free to use.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can interrupt or terminate a broadcast, and the platform’s livestream terms require the content to comply with its Community Guidelines and that you have the necessary rights for live and archived material. YouTube also notes that a license alone may not prevent interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and its livestream terms and conditions before using licensed or third-party material.
Set up the YouTube Live feed
- Verify eligibility. Confirm that livestreaming is available on your channel before preparing a long broadcast.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or select a live stream and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the stream setup process.
- Copy the ingest details into your encoder. Enter the stream URL and stream key shown for your stream. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to that stream. Do not show it in a public screenshot or video.
- Configure the source to repeat. Set your playback or encoder workflow to loop the 10-hour recording continuously. This is a creator-side setup, not a YouTube toggle. Confirm that the transition from the end of the file back to the beginning works as intended.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and check that it appears in Live Control Room. Listen for gaps, clipping, silence, or an abrupt loop transition, and check the picture if the stream includes video.
Choose encoder settings for steady ambient audio
Set resolution and bitrate to suit the source and the upload connection’s sustained capacity. YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video codecs, AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Exact bitrate recommendations depend on resolution and frame rate, so use YouTube’s current table rather than assuming one bitrate fits every setup. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a simple ambient stream, you generally do not need to choose HLS unless your encoder workflow calls for it. YouTube documents HLS as an alternative ingest method, including for supported HDR or codec workflows, but notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP and additional segment and playlist requirements. See YouTube’s HLS ingest guidance.
Do not choose settings solely because they work for a short test. YouTube recommends leaving upload bandwidth headroom; a connection disruption can interrupt the stream. Test at the intended settings over a sustained period and watch the stream health indicators.

Test, start, and monitor the stream
- Run the complete rain source, including at least one loop transition, before launch. Check both the audio and any accompanying visuals.
- Confirm the encoder feed appears in the Live Control Room preview and that the stream health is acceptable.
- Check that a local recording is being saved and that its file is growing. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup; it does not prescribe a storage brand or device. An external drive is one possible place to keep a backup if it has enough capacity for your recording.
- View the stream from the channel’s watch page and on a mobile device. Confirm the sound is audible, the image is correct, and there is no unexpected silence or playback interruption.
- While live, keep checking audio, picture, stream health, and the encoder/source status. For 24/7 operation, decide who or what will detect a stopped feed and how the source and encoder will be restarted.
Will YouTube archive a 10-hour livestream?
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” A 10-hour event is under that threshold, but automatic archiving is not a substitute for a local backup. YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
A continuous 24/7 broadcast is a different case from a single 10-hour event. It crosses the 12-hour threshold, so do not assume YouTube will preserve the full stream as an archive. If you need a recording, make and verify your own local archive and confirm that your chosen event and archive workflow meets your needs.

Troubleshooting common problems
- The stream does not appear in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder is using the correct stream URL and key for the selected YouTube stream, then confirm the encoder is actively sending a supported feed.
- The rain audio stops after 10 hours: The source or encoder is not repeating. Enable looping in the creator-side playback setup and test the end-to-start transition before going live.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check the connection’s sustained upload capacity against the chosen bitrate, preserve upload headroom, and inspect encoder and stream-health status. YouTube’s guidance calls for reliable networking; it does not promise that an encoder or connection will recover automatically.
- YouTube interrupts the feed: Review any copyright or policy notification in the Live Control Room. Verify the rights for every sound and image, and contact the rights owner about allowlisting if you hold a license but matching content is still interrupting the stream.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured. Check the local recording rather than relying on the platform archive for a continuous broadcast.
- The audio has a gap, click, or sudden change at the loop point: Inspect the source file and playback transition, then retest the whole loop. A clean, continuous source matters even when the video image is static.
