To keep an Indian music YouTube channel live around the clock from Google Cloud, run a software encoder on a Google Cloud compute instance and send its output to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The encoder must stay running, and you need a plan for process, machine, network, and YouTube interruptions. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is a separate managed-transcoding service: its documented output is HLS or DASH in Cloud Storage, not a direct YouTube stream.
Before broadcasting, confirm that you have the rights needed for the music and intended uses. A continuous stream does not make a recording or composition free to use, and licensed music may still need Content ID allowlisting to avoid interruptions.
Choose the Google Cloud architecture that matches your destination
There are two different ways to use Google Cloud for live video. For a stream that appears directly on your YouTube channel, use a software encoder in a compute environment and configure it to publish to YouTube. Use the Live Stream API when you need its managed ingest, transcoding, and HLS or DASH output workflow—not as a presumed substitute for YouTube’s stream-key publishing path.
| Approach | What it sends or produces | What you operate | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Encoder on Google Cloud compute | A live feed sent to YouTube with the server URL and stream key | The encoder process and its recovery when the process, machine, network, or destination fails | Publishing directly to a YouTube channel |
| Google Cloud Live Stream API | RTMP or SRT input transcoded into HLS or DASH outputs stored in Cloud Storage | The API channel lifecycle, input, output configuration, and continuity plan | Managed transcoding and HLS/DASH delivery or related workflows |
Google documents a backup input option and integrations with Cloud Storage and other Google Cloud services for the Live Stream API. Its documented output and destination model differ from the direct YouTube encoder workflow. Unless you have a separately established delivery design that connects those outputs to YouTube, do not treat the API alone as a way to publish to a YouTube stream key.

Check music rights before you build the stream
“Indian music” covers many catalogs, recordings, compositions, and performances; it does not establish that you have permission to broadcast any particular track. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants.
Confirm permission for the specific use
For each catalog or set of recordings, confirm that your permissions cover livestreaming, the territories where the stream will be available, the sound recordings and compositions, relevant performance or publishing rights, and any archive or monetization use you intend. A license for one use or territory should not be assumed to cover another. This is a practical checklist, not legal advice.

Plan for Content ID
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it can replace the stream with a placeholder; unresolved material can lead to interruption or termination. YouTube says a stream can still be interrupted even when the operator has licensed the music unless the relevant rightsholder adds the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights holder about allowlisting before relying on a licensed catalog for an uninterrupted broadcast.
A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a live stream. Keep records of permissions and the relevant rightsholder’s Content ID instructions so you can respond if a track is claimed or the broadcast is interrupted.

Set up a direct encoder-to-YouTube stream on Google Cloud
- Enable live streaming on YouTube. Activate live streaming for the channel before the planned launch. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this until the day you intend to go live.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create or select the stream, and copy its server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to publish to the stream.
- Prepare a Google Cloud compute environment. Choose a region and compute setup capable of running your selected software encoder continuously. The required capacity and cost depend on the resolution, frame rate, codec, feed format, redundancy, and region; there is no single size or monthly cost established for every channel.
- Configure the encoder’s output. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key as the publishing destination. Set the output resolution, frame rate, codec, and audio format to match the feed you intend to send. Use bitrate guidance appropriate to that exact resolution, frame rate, codec, and audio-channel configuration; a recommendation for a different format may not apply. The settings should be tested with your chosen encoder and feed rather than assumed to be universal.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s preview. Start publishing, then inspect the Live Control Room preview and live status. Confirm that the expected video and audio are arriving before treating the channel as live.
- Keep the encoder and its recovery path running. A continuous stream depends on more than the initial connection. Monitor the encoder process, compute instance, network path, and YouTube connection; decide how the encoder will be restarted or reconnected after a failure. This is operational planning, not a guaranteed deployment recipe.
Choose settings by the source, not by a universal preset
The right output settings depend on what you are sending and what the encoder supports. A 24/7 music channel still needs a stable video feed alongside its audio, but the appropriate resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and audio configuration are workload-specific. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API best-practices documentation provides bitrate recommendations by video resolution and frame rate and by audio channel count; use the recommendation that actually matches your intended configuration. No single bitrate or compute size is established here for all channels.
Use the Live Stream API only when its output workflow fits
The Live Stream API accepts an SRT or RTMP input, transcodes it into HLS or DASH renditions, and stores the generated output in Cloud Storage. Google recommends SRT over RTMP when the encoder supports it, citing packet-loss recovery, forward error correction, support for multiple audio elementary streams, and higher bandwidth. For this API workflow, start the channel before sending input.

The quickstart lists Mumbai (asia-south1) among supported regions. Select a region based on availability, latency, compliance needs, and pricing; proximity alone does not settle the choice. The API also has a 24-hour session duration in an active streaming state, after which the channel may need to be restarted. A 24/7 design using it therefore needs monitoring and a safe restart or continuity plan.
Google Cloud documents a limit of 10 running Live Stream API channels per region, as well as caps on output stream resources. Check the current quotas and limits for your project and intended region before designing around those resources.

Design around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not rely on one unbroken 24/7 broadcast to produce a complete VOD archive. If preserving the music stream matters, plan separate recordings and/or shorter planned sessions, and verify YouTube’s current archive behavior before launch.
Understand monetization limits
YouTube says eligible YouTube Partner Program creators can monetize live streams. Its live settings documentation names ads and Super Chat, with channel memberships available to some channels. Eligibility and feature availability depend on the channel, while music rights and Content ID policies can constrain whether monetization applies. Running a continuous stream does not itself guarantee eligibility or revenue.
Estimate costs for the actual workload
The direct encoder route can involve compute and network costs; the Live Stream API route can involve API, storage, and delivery costs. The totals depend on the selected region, duration, video configuration, redundancy, and output needs. Without those inputs, an exact cost estimate would be misleading. Calculate both options against the actual workload and current Google Cloud pricing before committing to a 24/7 design.
Troubleshoot common interruptions
- YouTube has no incoming signal: Check that the encoder is running, the configured server URL and stream key match the selected YouTube stream, and the compute instance has network connectivity. Check the Live Control Room preview after reconnecting.
- The first broadcast cannot be activated: Confirm that live streaming has been enabled for the channel. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The stream is interrupted after a music match: Review the identified content and contact the relevant rights holder. A license alone may not prevent interruption if the channel has not been added to the Content ID allowlist.
- The API channel stops accepting input: Confirm that the channel has been started. For a channel that has been active for 24 hours, account for the documented session limit and carry out the planned restart procedure.
- A long broadcast is missing from the archive: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Use separately planned recordings or shorter sessions if you need a dependable archive, and verify current YouTube behavior.
- The API workflow produces files but not a YouTube live feed: HLS or DASH output in Cloud Storage is the API’s documented destination model. Use the direct encoder-to-YouTube path for stream-key publishing unless a separate delivery design connects the API output to YouTube.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a continuous YouTube stream without maintaining a Google Cloud encoder, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream continues from the cloud with your computer off.
- Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; it is one free day per account.
The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for the service details, then start the free first day.
