You can keep a Tamil devotional YouTube channel live around the clock by sending a continuous feed from OBS to a YouTube broadcast. Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, connect OBS with the matching stream key and settings, check the incoming preview, then start the broadcast. To stay live, the computer running OBS and its internet connection must remain available—and the songs, recordings, images, and footage in the feed must be cleared for streaming.
Before you set up OBS
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check the current status in YouTube Studio. Encoder streaming is a supported method. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements may change, so use the current page and Studio status rather than relying on an old checklist.
- Prepare a continuous audiovisual feed. Decide what OBS will show and play: for example, a devotional image or title card with a playlist of recordings you have permission to broadcast. Check that Tamil text and diacritics display correctly, audio levels are suitable, and transitions between items work.
- Plan rights and archive use. Confirm that you have permission for each song, recording, image, and video for live streaming and, if you intend to keep a replay, for archive use too. A religious or traditional subject does not by itself make a particular recording free to rebroadcast.
- Choose an operating plan. With OBS on a local computer, that machine, OBS, and the internet connection need to keep running. Decide who will respond to an outage and how they will restart OBS and reconnect.
Understand the YouTube broadcast and OBS feed
YouTube treats a broadcast and an encoder stream as related but distinct objects: the broadcast is the watchable event, while the stream carries the encoder’s feed. That distinction matters when configuring a continuous channel. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation illustrates a 24/7 broadcast continuing while a separate concurrent broadcast is created from the same feed; that is an API example, not a requirement to create multiple broadcasts for a basic setup. Read YouTube’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.
For a straightforward setup, create or configure the YouTube broadcast in Live Control Room, then connect OBS using the corresponding stream key and settings. Do not share or publish the key: it authorizes an encoder feed to your channel. YouTube’s production guide describes connecting an encoder, checking the preview, and then selecting Go Live. Set up the 24/7 stream
- Confirm eligibility in YouTube Studio. Make sure the channel is verified and currently permitted to live stream. If YouTube shows a restriction, resolve it before building the continuous setup.
- Create or configure the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and set up the live broadcast. Add an accurate title and description, choose the intended visibility, and review the stream settings. For a Tamil devotional channel, make the title clear about the content and language, and ensure the description does not imply rights or affiliations you do not have.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, use the stream service/settings that correspond to the YouTube broadcast and enter its matching stream key. Labels can change between software versions, so follow the current OBS and YouTube interfaces; the essential requirement is that OBS sends to the stream configured for that broadcast. Keep the key private.
- Build and inspect the OBS scene. Add the media and visual sources needed for the channel, arrange them, and confirm that Tamil script is legible at the intended viewing size. Check that the audio source is active and that the scene will continue presenting content as the playlist advances.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s preview. Start streaming in OBS, then wait for Live Control Room to receive the feed. Inspect the preview and stream health before taking the broadcast live. A preview means YouTube is receiving the encoder feed; it is not, by itself, confirmation that the public broadcast has started.
- Run a short private or unlisted check. Verify the image layout, Tamil text and diacritics, audio, and playlist transitions. Confirm that the selected visibility is the one you intend before switching to a public broadcast.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Once the preview is correct, start the broadcast in Live Control Room. Keep OBS, the host computer, and the internet connection operating continuously, and make sure someone knows how to respond if the feed stops.
- Decide how to handle replays. The undated production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and recommends manually recording streams longer than 12 hours. Treat that as guidance from the document, not a guarantee for every account or current Studio behavior; check the archive controls in your own Studio account. If you retain or upload a recording, make sure your permissions cover that use.
Copyright and devotional content: the critical check
YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If a match is found, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. YouTube also warns that licensed third-party content can still be interrupted unless the rights owner has allowlisted the channel through Content ID. For a devotional channel, clear the actual recording and other assets—not only the underlying composition or religious text. Keep records of permissions and ask the rights holder whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting. A permission to perform or use a song does not necessarily establish permission to stream a particular commercial recording or keep a replay online.
Keeping a local OBS stream available
A local OBS setup depends on more than OBS itself: the host computer, power, media sources, and internet connection all need to work continuously. A UPS can help a computer ride through a brief power interruption, but it cannot protect the internet connection or guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. Plan for what happens after a power loss, a dropped connection, a frozen OBS session, or a YouTube interruption; no single backup item guarantees recovery.

- Document how an operator will restart OBS and reconnect the encoder.
- Keep the media and scene setup organized so an operator can identify the intended playlist and sources.
- Check the YouTube preview and broadcast state after reconnecting; do not assume a recovered encoder feed means the broadcast is already live.
- Recheck rights and archive permissions when changing recordings, artwork, or other content.

OBS is the encoder in the local approach, but the full operating cost also depends on the computer, continuous power and connectivity, and the time needed to monitor and recover the stream. A UPS is optional and only addresses some power interruptions. A cloud service shifts the always-on hosting task away from a home computer, but does not remove the need to manage YouTube access, content rights, or the broadcast itself.
