You can run a 24/7 YouTube playlist from a VPS by having a server-side encoder play your media and send it to YouTube Live, but a dependable setup below ₹500 a month is not verified. The architecture is straightforward; the budget is the uncertain part. Before paying, confirm the India data-centre location, renewal price, taxes, bandwidth terms and whether the server can sustain your chosen encode.
What the setup does—and what the budget claim means
A VPS is a rented server that stays online. For this use, an encoder on the VPS reads video and audio files in a loop and sends a live feed to YouTube Live. The path is playlist media → VPS encoder → YouTube Live ingestion. A playlist file by itself does not create a YouTube livestream; the encoder must continuously deliver the audio/video feed.
The available official price examples do not establish a qualifying VPS under ₹500 per month. Contabo’s India page lists its Cloud VPS 4 at $8.28 per month including VAT on a 24-month term, with 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 100 GB SSD; its India data centre is in Mumbai. DigitalOcean advertises shared-CPU VPS plans from $4 per month, but that page does not establish India availability for that plan or the final price for an Indian customer. Neither price proves a complete, suitable under-₹500 setup. Check current provider terms directly before committing.

Check YouTube eligibility before renting a server
YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance, accessed in 2026, says a channel must be verified and have no livestream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The same guidance sets a minimum age of 16 to livestream. Check the current YouTube Help requirements for starting a livestream for the channel you plan to use.
Also make sure you have the rights to stream every track and video in the playlist. A continuous broadcast does not make copyrighted material permissible. YouTube may restrict or interrupt streams, and channel enforcement can affect livestream access.

Configure the YouTube stream and VPS encoder
1. Create the live stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream. Choose the stream setup appropriate to your channel and note the ingestion details YouTube provides.
- In your encoder, select YouTube as the destination if it offers that option, or configure the provided server URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Use RTMPS for a typical encoder workflow when available. Google describes RTMPS as suitable for most ordinary user content, particularly where low latency matters, and documents a valid RTMPS ingestion endpoint on port 443. Use the endpoint YouTube supplies rather than copying a URL from an unrelated setup.

2. Set an encoder profile that matches the media
Choose resolution and frame rate based on your source and the VPS’s ability to encode it. YouTube’s settings table, accessed in 2026, recommends a 2 Mbps video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps and lists 6 Mbps as the maximum video bitrate for that profile. These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not a guarantee that every video or network needs exactly those values. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrates for your selected resolution and frame rate.

- Use the same frame rate as the source where practical; avoid choosing a higher resolution or frame rate than the files and server can sustain.
- Set the video bitrate within YouTube’s guidance for the chosen output profile. Allow for audio and network overhead when checking outbound capacity.
- Use the encoder’s recommended keyframe interval for YouTube’s current profile. Confirm the setting in the current YouTube guidance and the encoder UI; the sources here do not establish one universal keyframe value for every profile.
- Test the VPS’s real upload path and encoder load. A provider’s advertised network port speed alone does not prove a stable route to YouTube or enough CPU for continuous encoding.
3. Load and loop the media
Configure the encoder to read the media files or playlist and repeat them in the intended order. The exact playlist format, command line and process-supervision setup depend on the encoder and operating system; no specific VPS deployment or command has been validated here. Before relying on a DIY configuration unattended, verify that it handles end-of-file transitions, missing files, audio/video compatibility and restarts after a process failure.
HLS is another YouTube ingestion option, but it is not simply an RTMPS URL with a different label. Google’s HLS documentation requires HTTPS, muxed audio and video, conforming playlists and media segments, segments between one and four seconds, and no more than five outstanding segments. Test the stream and plan for unattended operation
- Start the encoder without publishing immediately, then check the YouTube Studio preview and stream health indicators.
- Confirm that the video and audio are present, the selected resolution and frame rate are correct, and the feed remains stable during a meaningful test.
- Monitor encoder resource use and outbound bitrate on the VPS. If the CPU stays saturated or the upload path fluctuates, lower the output profile or choose a server with adequate sustained capacity.
- Before leaving it unattended, arrange process supervision and a recovery procedure for encoder exits, VPS restarts and dropped YouTube connections. YouTube advises testing the encoder, checking the preview and monitoring stream health; it does not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

How to judge whether a VPS really costs under ₹500
Before ordering, ask the provider for a current quote that covers the actual location and full recurring cost. A low entry price alone is not enough. Check:

- Renewal and billing: distinguish recurring price from a first-term promotion, and account for contract length and taxes.
- Network policy: check included transfer, fair-use limits and rules for sustained outbound streaming.
- Compute: confirm CPU capacity for the chosen resolution and whether encoding happens on the VPS or is otherwise offloaded.
- Storage: include the space needed for the media files, operating system and any working files.
- Recovery and support: check what happens after a host or network incident and what support is included.
Until a provider confirms those terms, treat ₹500 as a target to verify—not a demonstrated price for a reliable 24/7 stream.
