A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To stream a looping 4K 60fps playlist on YouTube with subtitles permanently visible in the picture, build the playlist in OBS Studio with a VLC Video source, compose the subtitles as part of the OBS scene, then send a tested 3840×2160, 60 fps feed to YouTube. Do not assume that turning on VLC’s subtitle-track option burns captions into the video: verify the actual composed output before going live.
What “burned-in subtitles” means
Burned-in subtitles are rendered into the video image, so viewers cannot turn them off. That differs from a selectable caption track, which YouTube delivers separately. If subtitles must remain visible in the picture, render them into the source video before playback or place a rendered subtitle text or graphic layer over the video in OBS.
OBS documents subtitle-track controls for its VLC Video source, but the documentation does not establish that enabling that control permanently rasterizes subtitles into the outgoing frame. Treat it as a playback option, not proof of a burned-in result. Check the final scene in the OBS preview and in a test recording or stream.
Prepare the playlist and subtitle assets
- Confirm each video has the intended audio and subtitle language or track, and check its resolution and frame rate against your planned 4K60 output.
- Decide how the subtitles will become part of the picture: pre-render them into each video, or use a rendered text/graphic overlay in OBS. The official OBS guidance cited here does not provide a conversion recipe for turning timed subtitle files into overlays.
- Arrange files in the desired playback order. The cited guidance does not prescribe one playlist file format or guarantee seamless transitions between clips encoded differently.
- Check that you have permission to stream the video, music, and other material. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance includes setup and monitoring advice; copyright claims or other policy issues can affect a live stream and its availability. Review YouTube’s current rules and your rights before broadcasting.
Build a looping playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, add a VLC Video source, then add the media files in the order you want them to play. Choose this source for multiple files; OBS’s Media Source is for a single file.
- Enable playlist looping. In the VLC Video source properties, enable Loop Playlist. For one-file playback with Media Source, use its separate Loop control instead. OBS documents both controls on its Media Sources page.
- Check the video and audio. Play through the scene and confirm the intended files, order, audio, and transitions. If using a subtitle track in VLC, select it only if the source contains the usable track, then inspect the result. Do not rely on that toggle alone to meet the burned-in requirement.
- Add permanent subtitles to the scene. Put the rendered subtitle text or graphic source above the video source in OBS’s Sources list. OBS documents that sources higher in the list appear on top of sources below them. Check subtitle timing, placement, contrast, and legibility across the full frame in preview. The layering approach follows OBS’s source-order documentation; it is not a verified automatic conversion of timed subtitle files. See the OBS Sources Guide.
Set OBS for YouTube 4K60
Set the output canvas and scaled output to 3840×2160, and set the frame rate to 60 fps. In the streaming encoder, select a protocol and codec supported by both your encoder and YouTube’s ingest path. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 options up to 60 fps in its live encoder settings. Availability in the menu depends on your encoder and setup.

| Codec for 2160p at 60 fps | YouTube’s listed bitrate guidance |
|---|---|
| H.264 | 35 Mbps recommended |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 10 Mbps minimum; 40 Mbps maximum |
These are YouTube’s published encoder settings, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection can sustain 4K60. Keep the values matched to the codec: the 35 Mbps recommendation is for H.264, while 10–40 Mbps is the listed range for AV1/HEVC. Use constant bitrate encoding and a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. The encoder’s exact control names vary by software and hardware.
Choose software or hardware encoding based on whether it can encode 3840×2160 at 60 fps with your chosen codec and protocol. Test with representative motion and audio, and confirm that your upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate. YouTube’s guidance is: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”

Connect to YouTube and verify before going live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to obtain the stream URL and stream key.
- Enter the stream URL and key in OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before the next broadcast.
- Start the OBS feed and wait for YouTube’s preview. Inspect the actual outgoing image for 3840×2160/60 fps, subtitle permanence and timing, audio sync and levels, and correct playlist playback.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and monitor audio and video during the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring in its live streaming tips.
Choose between burned-in subtitles and YouTube live captions
If viewers need captions they can toggle, YouTube documents embedded EIA-608/CEA-708 captions and captions sent through supported software over HTTP POST. For the embedded workflow, select Embedded 608/708 in stream setup and configure the encoder to output that format. Although the 608/708 standard supports up to four language tracks, YouTube currently supports one caption track in this workflow, according to its live caption requirements.
These are caption-delivery options, not a substitute for text burned into the image. Use a rendered video or OBS overlay when subtitles must always appear on screen; use a caption track when viewers should be able to toggle captions.

Plan for the stream archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and that it automatically archives 1440p and 2160p streams. It warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not treat an extended broadcast as a guaranteed archive. YouTube recommends keeping a local backup; see its archive live streams guidance.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video source is missing or will not load media | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. Reopen OBS and check the source again. |
| Playlist stops after one pass | Loop Playlist is not enabled, or the wrong source type is being used. | Use VLC Video for multiple files and enable Loop Playlist. For a single file, enable Loop in Media Source. |
| Subtitles appear in preview but are not permanently visible to viewers | A selectable caption track or playback subtitle option was mistaken for burned-in text. | Render subtitles into the video or add a rendered overlay above it in the OBS scene. Verify a recording or test stream. |
| Subtitles are hard to read or out of sync | Overlay placement, contrast, timing, or source track selection needs adjustment. | Review the full-frame preview during representative scenes; confirm the intended language and timing before going live. |
| YouTube reports unstable stream health or the encoder drops frames | The bitrate may exceed available upload capacity, or the computer may not sustain the chosen 4K60 encode. | Run an upload speed test and representative stream test. Check encoder load, codec support, and YouTube stream health; reduce the output demand if the setup cannot sustain it. |
| Picture quality or stream setup does not match the target | Output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, or keyframe interval is mismatched. | Recheck 3840×2160 at 60 fps, match bitrate guidance to the selected codec, use constant bitrate, and set a 2-second keyframe interval (no more than 4 seconds). |
| The stream is not archived as expected | The broadcast lasted more than 12 hours, or archive capture did not complete. | For an important archive, keep a local recording backup. YouTube warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube playlist that stays live without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. Prepare and verify any burned-in subtitles in your video before uploading, since StreamNeo is not the OBS compositing workflow described above.
