You can broadcast pre-recorded sermons as a YouTube Live stream by looping a video or playlist in an encoder such as OBS, then connecting it to YouTube Studio with a stream key. For continuous playback, the encoder and its internet connection must stay available, or you can use a cloud service. Plan replay separately: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
Check YouTube Live eligibility first
The church channel must be verified and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do this well before a planned service or launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming enablement requirements.
Choose how the stream will run
| Approach | Useful when | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo, a cloud service | You want uploaded videos to keep playing without a church computer running. | StreamNeo is #1 for this use case: it runs continuously from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. |
| Local software encoder | You want control over scenes, sermon playlists, graphics, or handoffs, using software such as OBS. | The computer, network connection, and encoder need ongoing power and monitoring. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | You prefer a dedicated encoding device. | YouTube recognizes standalone hardware encoders as an option, but specific models, specifications, and costs are not established here. |
A cloud service avoids depending on a computer at the church, but compare current pricing, storage, controls, outage support, rights handling, and terms before choosing. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists Gyre as a service for continuous prerecorded broadcasts; that listing does not establish its pricing or suitability for a particular church.
Prepare the sermon video or playlist in OBS
Loop one sermon file
- Open OBS and add a Media Source to the scene you want to broadcast.
- Select the sermon video file and enable Loop in the source settings. OBS describes this option as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Play the scene and verify that the video and audio work as intended before sending it to YouTube.
Loop a sequence of sermons
- Add a VLC Video source in OBS.
- Create the playlist from the sermon files in the order you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then check playback and audio across the sequence.
Use media the church is authorized to broadcast. Keep the original sermon files safe; the livestream should not be the only copy of a message the church needs to preserve.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect OBS to YouTube and start the broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, create a live stream or schedule one using the encoder workflow. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover software and hardware encoders.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the corresponding connection settings in OBS.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Start sending the OBS feed and wait for the preview in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Check the watch page on desktop and mobile, including audio, then start the live broadcast in Live Control Room when ready.
For a continuous broadcast, keep OBS running and the computer powered and connected. Arrange for someone to monitor playback and respond if OBS, the computer, or the internet connection stops working.
Make a 24/7 stream reliable—and preserve replays separately
- Test the complete setup in advance, including a playlist transition and the public or unlisted watch page.
- Monitor picture and sound while the stream is live. YouTube recommends checking stream quality and the integrity of local recordings; see its live streaming tips.
- If using local recording, confirm the archive file is growing and can be played back.
- Do not rely on a single 24-hour broadcast for an archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording or publish individual sermons as regular videos if replay matters. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving information.
Clear rights for sermons, worship, and other media
The church is responsible for having the necessary rights to use all live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights, and for complying with applicable laws and rules. YouTube’s published livestream terms state that responsibility includes music licensing rights.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace the broadcast with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate it, or apply copyright strikes. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says a rights owner may need to add a licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check rights for sermon recordings, worship performances and music, images, and any embedded video before broadcasting. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
