You can schedule a YouTube live stream of church-created Christmas service recordings by sending them through an encoder, such as streaming software on a computer or a dedicated hardware encoder. YouTube provides the stream URL and key in its Live Control Room. But YouTube’s guidance does not establish an unlimited stream duration or a built-in way to loop prerecorded files, so plan this as a supervised broadcast rather than a guaranteed, uninterrupted all-day feed.
Before you stream: check rights and channel eligibility
Confirm rights for every recording
Review each service recording before scheduling. Check the rights for songs, arrangements, backing tracks, video clips, and other third-party material for both the live broadcast and any archive you intend to keep. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. Whether a particular license covers your intended YouTube use depends on its terms and circumstances; do not assume that permission to perform or record a work also covers streaming and archiving it.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A detected match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Even when material is licensed, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent an interruption. Confirm this with the rights holder before going live if your recording includes material likely to be claimed.
Verify the channel is eligible
Check the channel’s verification and live-streaming status ahead of the planned broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance says a channel must have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. A strike can result in a 14-day live-streaming restriction. YouTube also limits simultaneous activity to 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup requirements for current eligibility details.

Prepare the recordings and decide how playback will work
Put the recordings in the order you want viewers to see them and check that each file plays from beginning to end with the intended sound and picture. Choose an encoder or playback workflow that can send the files as a live feed. YouTube documents encoder streaming, but its reviewed instructions do not specify a built-in playlist-loop function for prerecorded videos. Confirm that your chosen software or hardware supports the playback sequence and any repeat behavior you need; do not assume the YouTube scheduling controls create a loop.
Plan an operator’s role during the broadcast. YouTube recommends checking the encoder preview and monitoring stream quality. A scheduled stream can still encounter a connection, encoder, or rights problem, and YouTube does not promise that a stream will run indefinitely without interruption.

Schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, start creating a live stream and choose the encoder workflow. Schedule the stream for the date and time you want it to begin. Review its title, description, audience setting, and other stream details before saving.
- Set the stream options: Choose the available settings for latency, DVR, archiving, and auto-start or auto-stop according to your operating plan. These controls affect how the broadcast starts and how viewers experience it; they do not guarantee all-day playback.
- Copy the connection details: In Live Control Room, retrieve the stream URL and stream key and enter them in your encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish or share it beyond people who need to configure the encoder. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before the broadcast.
- Configure the encoder: Select the recording or playlist in the encoder and set the output format and quality it supports. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers setup and stream health, but the specific available settings depend on the encoder you use. Confirm that its output is accepted by YouTube and that the selected source is the correct Christmas service recording.
- Start a complete test: Run the same playback sequence through the encoder and check the preview in Live Control Room. Listen for clear audio, check that the picture is stable, and verify that the sequence advances as intended. Test the full planned duration if practical, especially if the encoder or computer is expected to run unattended for an extended period.
- Go live and monitor: Start the encoder and confirm the preview and stream status before allowing viewers in. Keep an operator available to watch stream health and audio/video quality and to respond if the feed stops or a rights notice appears.
Choose software or hardware based on the production
YouTube supports encoder-based streams, including software and hardware approaches. An existing computer and software encoder may be suitable when the team knows how to operate them and can supervise playback. A dedicated hardware encoder can fit a higher-production setup, particularly when the event uses more complex audio and video equipment. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, while also noting that expensive equipment is not needed to start. Its guidance does not benchmark the cost or reliability of particular devices, so choose based on your current equipment, operator experience, and production needs.
Handle copyright claims and decide whether to archive
If YouTube detects third-party content during the live stream, follow the notice and contact the rights holder. If the church has permission but the feed is still interrupted, ask the rights holder whether it can allowlist the channel through Content ID. Do not rely on a license alone to prevent automated interruption.

Decide separately whether to keep an archive. A live stream can receive a Content ID claim after it ends, so review the completed archive and any notices. Monetization is a separate question: YouTube’s reused-content review is distinct from copyright enforcement. Keep records showing the church’s authorship and contribution, and do not treat permission to use material as a guarantee of monetization eligibility.
