Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For a continuous sequence of local video files in OBS, add a VLC Video source, add the files to its playlist, leave Shuffle Playlist off, and turn on Loop Playlist. OBS’s built-in Media Source loops one selected file; it is not the documented tool for managing a multi-file playlist. If by “YouTube playlist” you mean a playlist webpage, that is a different, less reliable setup than playing local files.
First, decide what “YouTube playlist” means
This setup can mean either a sequence of video files on your computer that you send in a YouTube live broadcast, or a YouTube playlist webpage displayed inside OBS. The documented OBS playlist workflow is for local files. A YouTube playlist URL is a webpage address, not a direct video file to add to Media Source. An OBS community discussion supports that limitation, but it is community guidance rather than a formal compatibility guarantee.
OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes Media Source as playback for supported media files and VLC Video as the source for a playlist. The Sources Guide identifies Browser Source as the type used to display a webpage. The official material cited here does not establish that a YouTube playlist embedded in Browser Source will autoplay continuously and reliably.
Choose the OBS source that matches the job
| Source | Best fit | Looping and order | Dependency or limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One local media file | Its Loop setting repeats the selected file. | Built into OBS; not the documented multi-file playlist feature. |
| VLC Video | A playlist of local media files | Loop Playlist repeats the list; Shuffle Playlist controls whether playback order is randomized. | Requires VLC installed. For 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. |
| Browser Source | Displaying a webpage | Reliable continuous autoplay of a YouTube playlist is not established by the cited OBS documentation. | It displays a webpage, not a direct local media playlist. |
Set up a looping local playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC. VLC must be installed for VLC Video to be available. If your OBS installation is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC.
- Open the scene where the videos should appear. In the Sources dock, select + and choose VLC Video. Give the source a recognizable name and confirm.
- Populate the playlist. In the source properties, add the local video files in the order you want them to play. Check that the intended files appear in the list.
- Set playback order and looping. Leave Shuffle Playlist unchecked for list order and enable Loop Playlist to start again at the first item after the last. OBS documents these as the VLC Video defaults: shuffle off and loop on.
- Choose what happens when the source is hidden. OBS’s default is Stop when not visible, restart when visible. If playback should continue when another scene is active, change the visibility behavior to continue playback while hidden. “Visible” means visible in the active scene; it does not mean that the OBS application window is on screen.
- Confirm the scene and audio. Preview the source, check that the picture fits the scene, and confirm that the expected audio is audible and routed as intended.
- Test the full sequence. Let the playlist reach its final item and verify that it returns to the beginning. Test scene changes and a longer run with the actual files before relying on it for a broadcast.
What Media Source can—and cannot—do
Use Media Source when you want a single supported local file to repeat: enable its Loop setting. That does not create a multi-file playlist. To play several local files as one ordered sequence, use VLC Video and its Loop Playlist control.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not paste a YouTube playlist URL into Media Source as though it were a media file. The URL points to a webpage/player rather than a direct file, according to an OBS forum support discussion from 2021. Treat that as community-level guidance. Browser Source can show webpages, but the official OBS documentation does not promise that a YouTube playlist will autoplay continuously there; test it rather than depending on it for an unattended stream.
Test before going live
- Check that VLC Video appears in OBS and that the playlist contains every intended file.
- Verify the first, middle, and final items, then confirm that looping restarts the list and shuffle is disabled if order matters.
- Switch to another scene and back. Confirm playback follows the visibility behavior you selected.
- Listen for audio level changes, missing audio, or unexpected gaps between files. OBS’s loop control does not promise gapless transitions.
- Run the sequence for as long as your intended broadcast requires. OBS documents playlist controls but does not promise uninterrupted streaming or uninterrupted playback for every file and setup.
Troubleshoot common playlist problems
VLC Video is missing
Confirm VLC is installed. If OBS is 64-bit, install the 64-bit VLC version, as required by OBS’s documentation for that configuration.

The same video keeps repeating
Check whether you added a VLC Video source or a Media Source. Media Source’s Loop setting repeats its one selected file; add the files to a VLC Video playlist to cycle through multiple items.
The list stops after the final video
Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist. Looping a single Media Source file does not loop a multi-item list.

Items play in an unexpected order
Turn off Shuffle Playlist and check the order of files in the source playlist.
Playback stops or restarts after a scene change
Review the source’s visibility behavior. The default stops playback when the source is not visible and restarts it when visible; select the continue behavior if it must keep playing while hidden.

A YouTube playlist URL does not play as expected
Media Source is for supported media files, not a YouTube webpage URL. Browser Source is the webpage option, but continuous playlist autoplay is not guaranteed by the cited OBS documentation. For predictable playlist playback, use local files with VLC Video.

An OBS forum resource for Media Playlist Source describes a third-party plugin that uses Media Source internally and adds playlist controls. It is separate from OBS’s built-in VLC Video source. Its OBS minimum-version requirements and compatibility can change, so check the author’s current resource page and release details before installing it.
