For a continuous stream of prerecorded bhajans, darshan clips, or recorded ceremonies, use cloud playout: a service keeps the videos and sends their feed to YouTube Live, so a computer at the temple does not have to stay on. YouTube’s mobile app can broadcast a phone camera or screencast, but its documented mobile workflow does not select and loop an existing playlist as a live source. For live camera coverage, the phone route is different and has eligibility requirements.
First decide whether you need a live camera or a playlist
Live temple camera
If viewers need a current view of the temple, YouTube’s mobile app can create a live stream from a phone camera or screencast. This is not the same as playing a sequence of uploaded recordings as a live broadcast. The phone, its power, and its network connection must remain available for the camera stream.
YouTube’s current mobile guidance requires at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, live streaming enabled, and Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Accounts with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers may have a mobile audience limit, and archived mobile streams may default to private while that safeguard applies. Recorded videos played as a live broadcast
A YouTube playlist organizes videos for on-demand playback; it does not itself supply a live encoder feed. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow expects a separate encoder to send video and audio to YouTube Live. If the goal is to play a prepared sequence continuously without a temple PC, look for cloud playout rather than assuming the mobile app can broadcast the playlist. How to keep a prerecorded playlist live without a local PC
- Prepare the content. Gather the recordings in the desired sequence and confirm the temple has the rights to stream every song, recording, image, and ceremony clip. Religious or devotional purpose by itself does not establish permission to use copyrighted material.
- Choose cloud playout that sends to YouTube Live. A cloud service should host or read your uploaded videos, play them in order or as a loop, and send a continuous RTMP/RTMPS feed to YouTube. Cloud playout is the practical no-local-PC route; the service provider, not a computer at the temple, runs the playback and feed.
- Check the service before paying. Confirm supported file formats, storage limits, playlist and loop controls, service availability in India, billing terms, how it handles interruptions and reconnection, and how it stores and protects your stream key. A service’s own description is not independent proof of reliability or suitability.
- Enable YouTube Live and create the broadcast. Use YouTube Studio’s live controls to set up the event and obtain the stream URL and key for the chosen encoder or service. Follow the encoder connection instructions in YouTube’s encoder guide. Treat the key like a password: give it only to the selected provider, do not publish it, and regenerate it if it is exposed.
- Test privately or unlisted before announcing it. Confirm that both picture and audio play, the videos appear in the intended order, and playback works on a phone and television. Arrange a temporary interruption test with the provider and verify whether the feed reconnects. These checks help reveal problems before devotees depend on the stream.
- Assign an operator and monitor the first broadcast. Decide who at the temple can check YouTube playback and contact the provider if the stream stops. Cloud playout removes the need to leave a local PC running, but it does not eliminate the need to plan for service or network interruptions.
Can I stream a YouTube playlist live from my phone?
Not through the documented YouTube mobile live workflow as a playlist source. That workflow is for broadcasting the phone camera or screencasting; a prerecorded playlist needs an encoder-produced feed. A phone can be useful to check the resulting broadcast or to stream a live camera view, but it is not a documented substitute for continuous cloud playlist playout. YouTube’s mobile streaming instructions and encoder instructions describe these as separate workflows.

Protect the stream key and the channel
- Give the stream key only to the encoder or provider that needs it. Anyone with the key may be able to send a feed to the channel.
- Use a test broadcast before the public schedule, and check the broadcast from a second device.
- Confirm content rights for devotional music and recordings as well as for footage, images, and ceremony audio. This is a rights check, not legal advice about Indian permissions.
- Make a plan for who can access YouTube Studio and contact the service provider during temple hours.
Plan YouTube replays separately from continuous availability
A continuous live feed and a dependable replay archive are different requirements. YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If devotees need a replay, schedule sessions under 12 hours and arrange a separate recording backup rather than assuming one very long broadcast will produce a complete video. Troubleshooting before and during the broadcast
The channel cannot go live from a phone
Check verification, subscriber eligibility, live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and whether live streaming has been enabled. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. The playlist is not appearing as a live source
A YouTube playlist is not the encoder feed. Use a cloud playout service that sends the recordings to the live event, or use an encoder on a computer if the no-PC condition can be relaxed.

The stream stops after a brief interruption
For cloud playout, ask the provider to explain and demonstrate its reconnection behavior. For a local encoder, check the machine and internet connection and restore the encoder feed. Do not assume automatic recovery unless it is part of the service and has been tested.
The broadcast works, but the replay is missing or incomplete
Check the stream length. YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; a stream over that duration may not be captured. For important replays, keep sessions shorter and create an independent recording. YouTube archive guidance

Regenerate the key in YouTube’s live controls and update the authorized encoder or provider. Do not share the replacement publicly.
