You can run a country-music radio-style YouTube livestream around the clock by clearing the music rights first, then sending a prepared audio-and-visual program through an encoder or a hosted playout service. A continuous-production setup does not guarantee YouTube uptime or a complete 24-hour replay: live streams are scanned for third-party matches, and YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours.

Clear the music rights before you build the station

Do not assume a song is cleared for YouTube because it can be played on terrestrial radio, another internet station, or a personal playlist. Permission depends on the tracks, who controls the relevant rights, the territories you plan to serve, and the intended use. Confirm the necessary rights with the relevant owners or a qualified local adviser before transmission.

YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If it detects third-party content, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you to stop using that content; continued use can lead to interruption or termination. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a stream. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

A license alone may not prevent an interruption. YouTube says a rights holder must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that, a stream may still be interrupted even when licensed, including when you restrict it to territories where you believe you hold the necessary rights. Ask the owner or distributor to arrange allowlisting, and treat it as a platform-matching step—not a substitute for obtaining rights.

YouTube for Artists advises music channels: “If you’re planning on using copyright-protected music during your live stream, we recommend coordinating with your label or distributor to avoid any issues, such as copyright strikes.” See YouTube for Artists.

Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming

YouTube’s guidance, checked in 2026, says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person going live must be at least 16. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility steps and its encoder setup guide.

For one station, the active-stream limits are not usually a concern; YouTube’s current guidance permits up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.

Choose how the station will play out

YouTube documents an encoder-based workflow for productions that combine external audio and video. For a country station, prepare the audio program and a visual identity—such as a station graphic or rights-cleared animation—then send both as a live feed. You can use software on a computer, a standalone hardware encoder, or hosted continuous playout. The official directory names OBS as open-source software, AJA HELO Plus as a hardware encoder, and Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 streams of prerecorded video. The directory does not establish comparative uptime for this use.

Approach What stays running Points to assess
Software encoder on a computer The computer, playback setup, encoder, and network connection Cost, scheduled playback, audio routing, power and connection resilience, and who notices or restarts a failure
Standalone hardware encoder The encoder and its connected audio/video sources, plus network and power Upfront cost, how media is supplied or scheduled, input routing, and monitoring and recovery responsibilities
Hosted continuous playout The provider’s hosted system sends the feed; you still need a way to monitor the YouTube broadcast Ongoing cost, scheduling and automation, supported media and workflow, rights responsibilities, and recovery procedures

These are operational trade-offs, not a universal ranking. Check the chosen system’s current terms and capabilities against your rights, scheduling, audio-routing, monitoring, and recovery needs. YouTube’s encoder directory describes the available categories and examples at its encoder setup page.

Set up and start the YouTube encoder feed

  1. Prepare the program. Organize the tracks you have cleared for the intended YouTube use, set up playback or scheduling, and make a station visual you have permission to use. Decide who will watch for playback failures and YouTube alerts.
  2. Create the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Use the current stream configuration shown there rather than relying on an old saved key or assumed settings.
  3. Connect the encoder. Copy the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into your encoder. Keep the key secret. YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders; follow the chosen encoder’s current instructions for the audio and visual inputs.
  4. Send a test feed and inspect it. Start sending the program from the encoder, then check the YouTube preview for audio, visual, and playback problems. Do not go live until the preview is correct and the rights and monitoring arrangements are in place.
  5. Start the broadcast and monitor it. Use the Live Control Room to go live. Keep a documented way to identify a dropped source or connection, restart the encoder or playout, and check that the resumed broadcast is actually reaching YouTube.

For most creators, use the current YouTube preset in the chosen encoder instead of hand-configuring transport details. The separate HLS technical guide is for specialist implementations: it specifies muxed M2TS audio/video, H.264 or HEVC video, AAC audio, one encoded stream, and HTTPS. Those are protocol-specific requirements, not a universal checklist for every encoder. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide.

Plan for interruptions and the limits of a 24/7 stream

Continuous playout is an operating goal, not a promise that YouTube or any encoder will stay online without interruption. Test the entire chain before launch: audio source, visual, encoder, internet connection, YouTube preview, stream-key handling, and your method of noticing and recovering from a dropped input or connection. Assign a person or monitoring system to watch for continuity problems and copyright alerts, and document how to restart and verify the feed.

YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise that a 24-hour session will produce one complete replay. If an archive matters, make an independent recording or consider shorter scheduled streams, and confirm YouTube’s current behavior before promising listeners a full replay. See YouTube’s encoder and archive guidance.
