Use a cloud playout service: upload your prerecorded sermons, arrange them as a playlist, connect your YouTube channel, and start the broadcast. The service sends the video to YouTube, so a church computer and its internet connection do not have to stay on. Before you begin, verify the channel’s live-stream eligibility and make sure you have rights to every sermon and all included music.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If live streaming has not been activated on the channel before, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Video files for the sermons, plus a cloud playout service that supports continuous YouTube streaming and the playlist workflow you need.
- The YouTube stream key and server URL from Live Control Room. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Permission to stream each recording and every piece of music or other third-party material it contains.
How to set up a continuous sermon playlist
- Check YouTube eligibility. In YouTube, open Live Control Room and confirm live streaming is available for the channel. Allow up to 24 hours if this is the first activation. Resolve any channel restriction before scheduling the broadcast.
- Choose a cloud playout service. Compare whether it can order and loop uploaded videos, how it handles storage and uploads, how long a broadcast can run, and what monitoring or recovery it offers. A continuous stream can remain active while your local computer is off, but the exact limits and plan requirements vary by provider.
- Upload the sermon recordings. Add the files from your computer or, if supported, from cloud storage. Confirm that each upload has finished and that the service can play the file format you supplied.
- Arrange the playlist. Put sermons in the intended sequence and enable looping or continuous playback. Preview the sequence where possible, including transitions and audio levels, before sending it to YouTube.
- Connect the YouTube channel. Follow the provider’s YouTube connection flow or enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Do not share or publish the key. If you suspect it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the playout service.
- Start the broadcast and confirm it in YouTube. Start the cloud feed, then check Live Control Room for the incoming stream and confirm that the public watch page shows the expected video and sound. Schedule or make the broadcast public according to the church’s plan.
- Keep original files and make a separate archive plan. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in its automatic archive. A 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a dependable replay archive. Keep the original sermon files, and use shorter scheduled broadcasts if a YouTube replay is important.
Rights and YouTube live-stream rules
Having recorded or owning the sermon does not necessarily give the church permission to stream everything heard in it. Check the rights for the sermon recording, worship music, backing tracks, images, and other third-party material. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the broadcaster to hold the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content; a detected match can interrupt or terminate a stream. In some cases, even licensed material may need to be allowlisted by the rights holder for Content ID.
Resolve licensing questions before launch rather than relying on a stream test to reveal a problem. The copyright safety checklist can help organize that review, but it does not grant rights or replace legal advice.
