For the encoder route, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, connect encoder software with its stream URL and key, and check the Live Control Room preview before going live. YouTube’s standard workflow applies to churches in India; channel eligibility and rights clearance still need to be checked individually.
Choose between a Premiere and an encoder stream

Use Premiere when the uploaded-video experience meets the church’s needs. Use an encoder stream when you specifically need the live-broadcast workflow. YouTube’s official encoder guidance documents connecting an encoder to a scheduled event, but does not establish a specific OBS media-source recipe for continuously playing an existing video file. Confirm your chosen file-playback setup in rehearsal rather than assuming a particular OBS configuration.
Check eligibility, the recording, and rights first
- Channel eligibility: Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has had no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Eligibility depends on channel status, not simply on being based in India. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
- Choose the workflow: Decide whether a scheduled Premiere or an encoder-based live event is the right viewing experience before preparing the event page.
- Review every third-party element: Check music, hymns, background tracks, guest video, and other material for which the church needs permission. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may show a placeholder, issue a warning, interrupt, or terminate a stream. Even when a license covers the use, the rights owner may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Archived live streams can also receive Content ID claims. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
- Plan a complete test: Check the entire video and audio path, the correct event and watch page, and monitoring arrangements before the service.
Option 1: Schedule the recording as a Premiere
- Upload the finished service video to YouTube and open its publishing or scheduling options.
- Select the Premiere option and set the planned date and time. YouTube creates a public watch page that you can share with the congregation in advance.
- Share the watch page so viewers can set reminders and join the comments or chat. During the scheduled playback, viewers can rewind but cannot jump ahead of the event’s current point.
- After playback, the recording remains on the channel as a regular video, with chat replay available.

Option 2: Send the recording through encoder software
This method creates a scheduled live-stream event and sends its feed from encoder software. You need the finished recording, a Windows PC capable of running your chosen playback and encoder setup, and a reliable internet connection. A camera, microphone, or capture card is not inherently required to send a finished file.

- Schedule the event: In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and schedule the stream. Confirm the event’s title, time, visibility, and other settings before sharing its watch page. See YouTube’s live-stream settings guide.
- Copy the connection details: Get the stream URL and stream key for that event from YouTube Studio. Enter them in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: it authorizes the encoder to send a feed to YouTube, so do not publish it or share it casually.
- Prepare file playback: Set up the selected playback method so the recording, including its sound, is what the encoder sends. The official YouTube and OBS guidance cited here does not verify a particular OBS media-source sequence for this task, so test the actual setup you intend to use. OBS’s official Help Portal points new users to its Auto-Configuration Wizard for basic settings.
- Start early and check the preview: YouTube recommends starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Open the Live Control Room and confirm that the expected picture and audio appear in the preview before starting the broadcast.
- Monitor the service: Test the full recording in advance and have someone monitor the stream’s picture and sound during the event. YouTube recommends a test stream for people new to the workflow. Its computer live-streaming tips cover preparation and testing.
YouTube documents this scheduling-and-connection workflow in its encoder streaming guide. The exact controls available in your encoder depend on the software and playback method you choose.
What is specific to churches in India?
The YouTube Help guidance for both Premieres and encoder streams describes the standard workflow, not a separate India-only procedure. An India-based church should use the same YouTube Studio steps, while checking its own channel eligibility and the rights that apply to its recording. Geography alone does not establish permission to use music or other third-party material, nor does it guarantee a particular internet connection or channel eligibility.

Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified and has no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the scheduled event, and that the key has not been mistyped or exposed. Recheck the event selected in YouTube Studio.
- The event is approaching but the preview is blank or silent: Start setup earlier, verify that the recording is actually playing into the encoder, and check the Live Control Room preview before the broadcast.
- The stream is warned, interrupted, or replaced by a placeholder: Investigate third-party music and video. A license may not prevent automated interruption unless the rights owner has allowlisted the channel with Content ID.
- A claim appears after the event: Live-stream content can be scanned and archived streams can receive Content ID claims. Review the rights for all third-party material used.
