You can stream a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live loop over BSNL broadband by sending it through an encoder such as OBS: create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, enter its server URL and stream key in the encoder, set the video source to repeat, and start the encoder. Check YouTube’s preview and stream health before selecting Go live. The deciding factor is your line’s sustained upload speed—not the headline speed of your BSNL plan.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- An encoder-capable computer and the prerecorded video file you intend to broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key; it does not require a particular router, camera, or capture device.
- A stable BSNL connection with enough sustained outbound bandwidth for your selected stream settings. Download speed is not a substitute for upload speed.
Set up the YouTube Live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream and copy the server URL and stream key shown there.
- In your encoder, enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it in screenshots. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
- Add the prerecorded video as the encoder’s source and configure that source to repeat. The exact control depends on the encoder and version. Current YouTube guidance supports the encoder workflow, but does not document OBS’s current menu steps for looping a local media file; consult the documentation or interface for the encoder version you use rather than relying on possibly outdated click-by-click instructions.
- Choose the output resolution, frame rate and bitrate together, based on a test of your actual upload connection.
- Start the encoder and wait for its preview in Live Control Room. Check the picture, audio and stream health, then select Go live in YouTube.
Choose settings your BSNL upload can sustain
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion and publishes codec-specific settings. For H.264, its recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular BSNL line can sustain those rates. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the stream’s total bitrate. Measure outbound upload speed under realistic conditions, preferably while other devices and users are using the connection as they will during the broadcast. Your available upload must exceed the stream’s total bitrate with that headroom; if it fluctuates, lower the resolution or bitrate and test again. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

The upload figures in the last column are arithmetic based on YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation and the listed video bitrates. Audio and other stream overhead also count toward total bitrate, so treat these as minimum planning examples, not guarantees. Choose from YouTube’s full table for your codec, resolution and frame rate.

Why a BSNL plan name cannot answer the upload question
Advertised plan speeds are not measurements of an individual customer’s sustained upload performance. Local congestion, Wi-Fi conditions, other household traffic and line instability can all affect the result; test the connection and run a realistic encoder test before committing to a long broadcast.
For regional context only, a Chennai Telephones BSNL tariff document updated 1 October 2025 lists Fibre Neo at up to 50 Mbps before FUP and 4 Mbps after FUP, and Fibre Basic Plus at up to 100 Mbps before FUP and 4 Mbps after FUP. These are advertised figures in a Chennai circle document—not stated upload rates, not an individual line measurement, and not a nationwide offer. Check the current terms for your own BSNL circle and plan.

Test, go live and end the broadcast
- Run a test with the actual video, including its busiest motion and audio sections. Keep other household upload-heavy activity representative of a normal broadcast.
- Watch the Live Control Room preview and stream health. If the preview stutters or health warnings appear, lower the output bitrate or resolution, reduce competing network use, and test again.
- When the preview is stable, select Go live in Live Control Room. Keep an eye on stream health during the broadcast.
- End the stream in YouTube, then stop the encoder. YouTube says an encoder stream shorter than 12 hours is automatically archived; do not assume the same archive outcome for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer.
Common problems and fixes
- No preview appears: Confirm the encoder is running and that its server URL and stream key match the stream selected in Live Control Room. Check that the key has not been replaced or copied with an error.
- Stream health warns or playback stutters: The upload may be insufficient or unstable for the configured total bitrate. Reduce bitrate or resolution, allow the recommended 20% headroom, and retest with competing network traffic in mind.
- Download speed looks good but the stream struggles: Download speed does not establish upload capacity. Measure outbound performance and judge it by a realistic encoder test.
- The video ends instead of repeating: Check the repeat or loop setting for the media source in your encoder’s current version. YouTube’s encoder setup alone does not make the source repeat.
- The plan’s advertised speed seems adequate but the stream is unstable: Plan headline figures are not proof of sustained upload at your location. Check local network sharing and conditions, test at the intended settings, and reduce the load if needed.
