You can stream a looping fireplace video to YouTube Live from a server by preparing a rights-cleared video, enabling live streaming on your channel, creating a broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room, and sending the video to YouTube with an encoder using the stream URL and key. Test the feed before making it public, then monitor both the server and YouTube’s stream health. A 24/7 setup is an operating goal—not a guarantee of uninterrupted service or indefinite archive availability.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube lists both as requirements for live streaming in its live streaming tips.
- An animated fireplace video file, plus any audio, that you are allowed to distribute through a public YouTube livestream and any resulting archive.
- A server with an encoder and a stable network connection capable of sending the selected video quality continuously. YouTube’s guidance does not specify a server size or a universal upload-speed figure for this particular use.
- Access to the channel’s Live Control Room, where you will configure the stream and retrieve its connection details.
Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a channel broadcasting a 24/7 feed as an example use case. It treats a broadcast event and the incoming media stream as separate resources: a liveBroadcast represents the event, and a liveStream represents the feed. You do not need to use the API for the standard encoder workflow below.
Prepare the video and confirm your rights
Check both the image and the audio
Use a fireplace animation and soundtrack for which you have the necessary rights for YouTube live distribution and, if the stream is archived, playback of that archive. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights, and require compliance with Community Guidelines and applicable law.
A label such as “free,” a stock-asset license, or a music subscription does not by itself establish that continuous public livestreaming or archived playback is covered. Read the specific license for the exact use. YouTube lets streamers configure Content ID and rights-policy settings, but those controls do not grant rights to the material.

Make the file suitable for continuous playback
Choose a finished video that can play continuously without relying on a one-time prompt, interactive player, or source file stored only on your personal computer. Check that its beginning and end loop acceptably, and decide whether audio should continue through the loop or be muted. These are content and operational choices; YouTube’s documentation does not prescribe a fireplace-specific file format or duration.
Create the YouTube broadcast and get the encoder details
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Sign in to the channel you intend to use and open Live Control Room. If the channel does not meet YouTube’s verification and restriction requirements, resolve eligibility before configuring the encoder.
- Set up the stream. Create or configure the live stream in Live Control Room. Set the title, description, category, audience designation, privacy, and any other applicable details for the channel and content. Choose whether the stream should be private or unlisted while testing, then set it public only when you are ready for viewers.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Live Control Room provides the connection information for the encoder. YouTube describes the stream key as the stream’s password and address; treat it as a secret. Do not put it in a public script, screenshot, log, or repository. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Bind the incoming feed to the broadcast. In the normal Control Room workflow, YouTube associates the encoder feed with the broadcast you configured. If you instead manage broadcasts through the API, remember that the broadcast and stream are distinct resources; follow Google’s broadcasts and streams documentation for the API’s binding workflow.
Configure the server encoder
Choose the connection and encoder settings
In the encoder, enter the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Its current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance also identifies H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a recommended two-second keyframe frequency (do not exceed four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio.

Use the current YouTube settings table for the resolution and frame rate you actually plan to send. Do not treat one bitrate as right for every resolution, frame rate, server, or network. Select a quality the server can encode and the connection can sustain reliably; a stable feed is more useful than a higher setting that repeatedly drops frames or disconnects.
Start with a test, not a public launch
- Start the encoder with the stream set to private or unlisted, as appropriate for your test.
- Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room’s preview. Confirm that the picture is moving, the fireplace loop behaves as expected, and audio is present only if intended.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and watch the stream page on another device, including a phone, to verify playback and access.
- Only after a successful test, change visibility or create the public broadcast as needed, and confirm that the public watch page is reachable.
Keep the stream operating from the server
A continuous stream requires the encoder process, source file, server, and network path to remain available. Monitor the encoder and YouTube stream health rather than assuming a successful start means the feed will remain live. YouTube’s encoder tips recommend testing and continuous monitoring.

- Watch for encoder exits, stalled playback, dropped frames, audio problems, server restarts, and network interruptions.
- Keep the source video and any required configuration available after reboot; verify the encoder’s restart behavior rather than assuming it will resume automatically.
- Protect the stream key and limit access to the server account and configuration where it is stored.
- Check YouTube’s current behavior for long-running streams and archives before relying on a continuous broadcast. The available official guidance does not establish a maximum uninterrupted duration, indefinite archive availability, or guaranteed reconnection behavior.
Google’s API guide explicitly gives a 24/7 feed as a use case, and explains that a channel can also create a separate overlapping broadcast using the same stream. For other schedules, the guide distinguishes reusing one stream for broadcasts at different times from creating a separate stream for each broadcast. Reuse can suit recurring events; a distinct stream can suit separate feeds. For a single fireplace program intended to run continuously, test the chosen arrangement rather than assuming how YouTube will handle every outage or archive edge case.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely checks | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a feed | Check that the channel is eligible, the encoder is running, and the stream URL and key were copied correctly. | Re-enter the current connection details from Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder. |
| The preview does not appear or the stream reports an issue | Check the encoder’s connection status, selected protocol, and settings against YouTube’s current guidance. | Use RTMPS where supported, confirm the selected resolution and frame rate match the encoder output, and consult YouTube’s current settings table. |
| Video stutters or drops frames | Check server load, encoder performance, and the stability of the server’s upload connection. | Test at a lower resolution or frame rate, or otherwise reduce the encoder’s workload until the feed is stable. There is no single bitrate or server specification established for every setup. |
| Picture is present but sound is missing or unwanted | Check the encoder’s audio input, codec, and mute settings, and inspect the source file. | Use an audio format supported by YouTube’s current guidance—AAC or MP3—and verify the result in preview before going public. |
| The feed stops after a server or network interruption | Check whether the encoder process exited, the server restarted, or the connection dropped. | Restore the process and confirm that YouTube receives the feed again. The cited guidance does not guarantee automatic recovery for a particular server or encoder, so test recovery behavior in your own setup. |
| Viewers cannot watch, or the archive is unavailable | Check broadcast visibility, the public watch page, and any current YouTube notices or restrictions. | Correct the visibility or broadcast configuration where appropriate. Verify current archive behavior directly; continuous-broadcast archive limits are not established by the cited documentation. |
| A rights or Content ID issue appears | Review the rights for every visual and audio element and the exact coverage for livestreaming and archives. | Replace or remove material you are not authorized to use, or resolve the issue through the rights holder and YouTube’s applicable process. A rights-policy setting cannot substitute for permission. |
