You can keep archived revival meetings playing on a church YouTube channel by sending prerecorded videos through a live-stream encoder. First confirm the channel can go live and that the church has the rights to retransmit every recording; then configure a local encoder or cloud service, connect it to YouTube with a stream key, and test the full playback cycle before announcing it.

Choose a local encoder or a cloud service

YouTube’s encoder workflow sends a live feed from an encoder to a YouTube stream URL using a stream key. YouTube identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos, but its help pages do not establish the detailed playlist settings, pricing, or reliability of any particular provider. Confirm that the service you choose can repeat your files and recover when a file or connection ends.

Approach What it involves What to verify
Local computer and encoder software The church computer plays and sends the video feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder guidance includes OBS among encoders for HLS output. Confirm the selected software and version can loop a playlist, run unattended, and resume safely. The computer, power, and internet connection must stay available.
Cloud service A provider runs the prerecorded stream remotely. YouTube names Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-streaming tool. Check current availability, supported formats, playlist and looping behavior, recovery, pricing, rights handling, and provider support directly.

There is no universal winner established by YouTube’s guidance: test the actual revival recordings and watch at least one transition between files before relying on either setup.

Check eligibility and rights first

Make sure the channel can go live

YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Activating live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before a planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Confirm permission for every recording

The church is responsible for holding the necessary rights for both the live transmission and archived material. Check permissions for the meeting recording, performances, musical compositions, and any embedded third-party material. A recording’s age or the fact that it was previously shown at church does not by itself establish permission for a continuous YouTube broadcast. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and resolve rights questions before streaming.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder

  1. Create the event in YouTube Studio: open the Live Control Room and create or select the live stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow provides a stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Follow the current on-screen instructions in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
  2. Protect the stream key: enter it only in the church’s chosen encoder or service. Treat it like a password; anyone with access may be able to send video to the channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
  3. Build the playback sequence: add the revival recordings in the encoder or service and enable its repeat or playlist function. Looping is not automatic in every encoder. Check that the selected tool supports the intended behavior and test what happens at the end of each file.
  4. Set the video feed: choose a resolution and bitrate suited to the church’s upload connection, and follow YouTube’s current encoder settings. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its settings guidance also covers codecs, frame rates, and bitrate ranges: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
  5. Start the encoder and inspect the preview: YouTube’s workflow calls for starting the encoder, then checking the Live Control Room preview and using its go-live controls as applicable. Confirm that the event is reachable from the channel or watch page and plays on a phone, with clear audio as well as video. YouTube recommends a test and monitoring stream health; see its live-streaming tips.

Run a launch test and prepare for interruptions

  • Test at the intended resolution and bitrate on the church’s actual upload connection; a setup that works on a faster office connection may fail at the broadcast location.
  • Watch a complete handoff between at least two recordings. Check for silence, abrupt gaps, black frames, unexpected overlays, or a playlist that stops instead of repeating.
  • Check the YouTube preview, public watch page, and mobile playback. Keep the Live Control Room open during launch to watch stream health.
  • Assign someone to respond if the encoder, computer, power, or network fails. For a local setup, decide who can restart it and how the stream will resume.
  • Keep a separate local copy of the source recordings. YouTube recommends a local archive backup; an external drive or SSD can serve this purpose if the church does not already have enough storage.

Plan around YouTube archives and DVR

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but longer streams may not be captured at all. If keeping a YouTube archive matters, consider planned sessions shorter than 12 hours, retain a local copy, and verify each archive after the session. As YouTube puts it, “If your live stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to do
You cannot start a live stream The channel is not verified, has a live restriction, or first-time activation is still processing. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio and allow up to 24 hours for first activation.
YouTube receives no feed or shows a connection problem The encoder is stopped, the stream URL or key is wrong, or the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings. Confirm the URL and key, restart the encoder if needed, lower the resolution or bitrate to suit the upload connection, and check stream health.
The stream stops after one recording The encoder is playing a file once rather than looping a playlist. Enable repeat playback or add a playlist in the chosen tool, then test the file handoff before relaunching.
Playback has gaps, poor audio, or unstable video A transition, audio track, or bitrate may not be working reliably. Test the actual files, inspect audio and video in the preview, and adjust settings to match the available upload connection.
The YouTube archive is missing or incomplete The stream exceeded 12 hours or archiving otherwise did not complete as expected. Keep a local recording, use shorter planned sessions if a YouTube archive is needed, and verify each resulting archive.
The broadcast is interrupted by a copyright issue The church may not hold all permissions for the recording, music, composition, or other included material. Review the rights for the live and archived uses and resolve the issue with the relevant rights holders before broadcasting again.
