To crossfade songs in a 24/7 YouTube music stream, play the playlist in software with explicit crossfade controls, then route that software’s audio into your streaming encoder. RadioBOSS documents controls for overlapping tracks and choosing an audio output device. OBS’s VLC playlist source can loop or shuffle tracks, but its documentation does not describe crossfading between them—adding songs to a looping playlist alone does not create overlaps.
The workflow below applies to Indian music as well as other repertoires; the cited platform guidance does not specify a separate India-specific crossfade method. You will need to configure and test audio routing for your own computer and setup.
What a crossfade does—and what it does not do
A crossfade overlaps the end of one track with the beginning of the next: the outgoing song fades down as the incoming song fades up. In RadioBOSS, the “Mix point” determines how long before a track ends the next one starts. Its settings also cover fade-in, fade-out, and when to trigger a mix. RadioBOSS’s crossfade manual describes these controls.
Looping a playlist is different. It repeats or advances through tracks, but that does not establish that one song will overlap the next. OBS documents looping and shuffle for its VLC playlist source, not a crossfade control. OBS’s media-source documentation describes that playlist behavior.

Set up a crossfaded playlist and send it to YouTube
- Prepare the playlist. Use music cleared for your intended public livestream. Check that the playlist order and repeat behavior suit the broadcast.
- Enable overlap in a crossfade-capable player. In RadioBOSS, open Settings > Crossfades, then configure the mix point and fade behavior using its Crossfading settings. The manual lists options including Fade in, Mix point, Trigger mix at, Fade out, and “Start fading out on mix.” A sound-level trigger is based on a level setting; the manual shows a default of –14 dB and notes that the mix point must also be enabled for that trigger behavior. Treat that default as a starting point, not a setting that suits every song.
- Audition transitions and adjust. Listen to consecutive tracks with different openings, tempos, vocals, percussion, and endings. Shorten or lengthen the overlap where vocals or strong beats collide, or where a long decay needs room. No single crossfade duration is right for every playlist.
- Choose the player’s audio output. RadioBOSS documents selecting a main playback device, including a system or virtual card as possible device types. See its playback settings. Select an output that your encoder can receive; the actual routing depends on your operating system, devices, and any routing software you use. A physical mixer or interface is not inherently required.
- Configure the encoder to receive that audio. If you use OBS, select the input or route that carries the player’s output, then watch OBS’s audio meter and confirm the program output contains sound. OBS also offers media sources and a VLC playlist source, but the documented VLC playlist controls are looping and shuffle rather than crossfading.
- Test before leaving the stream unattended. Run an unlisted YouTube test. Listen through several transitions, check levels and playlist looping, and verify that the encoder and connection continue working. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test, particularly for high-production or high-investment events; see its going-live guidance.
Choose a playback path
| Path | What the documentation establishes | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Crossfade-capable player feeding an encoder | RadioBOSS documents mix-point and fade controls, along with playback-device settings. Crossfades; Playback. | Configure a reliable audio route from the player into the encoder, then audition transitions and test the full broadcast. |
| OBS VLC playlist source | OBS documents playlist looping and shuffle. Its cited documentation does not describe crossfading between playlist items. OBS Media Sources. | Suitable for documented playlist playback, but do not assume that looping produces song overlaps. |
Check YouTube eligibility and stream continuity
YouTube’s current help page says livestreaming requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube for Artists advises enabling livestreaming for the first time at least 24 hours before going live and recommends testing in an unlisted stream. Check the current Live Control Room and official guidance because requirements and interface steps may change: YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility and setup and YouTube for Artists’ going-live guidance.
Crossfades only address song transitions. They do not keep a broadcast running by themselves: the playback software, audio route, encoder, power, and internet connection must all continue working. During your test, check what happens if the player stops, audio disappears, or the connection drops. The cited guidance does not establish that any particular configuration guarantees uninterrupted uptime.

Clear music rights before broadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can trigger a warning and placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate a livestream. YouTube says that for licensed third-party material, the rights owner should add the channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that, even a licensed stream may be interrupted. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and YouTube for Artists’ going-live guidance.
For an Indian music playlist, permissions depend on the repertoire, rights holders, territories, and whether you plan to keep an archive or make other uses. The cited sources do not provide a universal India-specific licensing checklist. Do not assume that a listening subscription, credit, or permission for a different use covers a continuous public livestream. Confirm the planned use with the relevant rights holders, label, or distributor, or consult a qualified local adviser.

Troubleshoot common crossfade and stream problems
- Songs change with a gap instead of overlapping: Confirm that the player supports crossfades and that its mix point is enabled. A playlist’s loop or shuffle setting alone does not prove tracks overlap.
- The outgoing song cuts off too soon, or vocals clash: Audition the specific transition and adjust the mix point or fade behavior. Track intros and endings vary, so a single setting may not suit every pair.
- The player meter moves but OBS has no audio: Check the selected playback device and the encoder’s input route. Verify the signal reaches the OBS audio meter and program output; exact routing steps depend on your system and devices.
- The stream has sound but transitions are abrupt: Confirm the playlist is playing through the crossfade-capable player rather than a separate OBS playlist source that only loops or shuffles.
- A livestream is warned, interrupted, or terminated: Check YouTube’s copyright guidance and confirm the relevant rights holder has authorized the planned live use and, where applicable, allowlisted your channel.
- The stream stops while unattended: Crossfades do not prevent failures in the computer, player, route, encoder, power, or network. Test the full setup, including recovery after a player or connection failure, before relying on it unattended.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the YouTube stream to keep running without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera. StreamNeo’s described features do not establish crossfade controls, so create and check your transitions before uploading if crossfades are essential.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is provided if YouTube drops the stream.
