The example below uses H.264 video, AAC audio, and a two-second keyframe interval; adapt it to your file and YouTube’s current ingest settings. For an always-on stream without a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative.
Before you start: check eligibility, content rights, and continuity needs
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have live streaming enabled, and have had no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s current help guidance sets the minimum age for live streaming at 16. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility requirements.
- Use only video, music or performance recordings, and artwork that you have permission to broadcast. A devotional subject, public availability, or credit to the creator does not itself grant permission; sending a recording through a live encoder does not change its rights status.
- Decide whether a single file is enough. The command below repeats one video indefinitely. It does not create a playlist or rotate among multiple recordings.
- Plan for the computer and network to remain available while you broadcast. FFmpeg stops sending if the host computer shuts down, the process exits, or the connection fails.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that is an archiving note, not a guarantee that an uninterrupted broadcast will run indefinitely. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Create a YouTube Live stream and protect the key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Choose the stream’s visibility and other settings in YouTube.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses both: the server URL identifies the ingest endpoint, and the key identifies your stream. Keep the key private, just like a password. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, chat, or repository.
- Confirm the current ingest URL and stream settings in Live Control Room before running FFmpeg. Use the server URL and key YouTube supplies rather than relying on an old URL copied from another setup.
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder streaming. RTMPS is RTMP tunneled through an SSL connection, as described in Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
Loop one video with FFmpeg
Install an FFmpeg build that includes the libx264 encoder, then open a terminal in the directory containing your video. This schematic example reads the file in real time, loops it, encodes 30 fps H.264 video at 4 Mbps and AAC audio at 128 kbps, and sends an FLV stream over RTMPS:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4
-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 -b:v 4M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k
-f flv "rtmps://SERVER/STREAM_KEY"
This is an adaptable example, not a tested universal command. Replace input.mp4 with your file, and replace the example destination with the current ingest server URL and stream key supplied by YouTube. Keep the key out of public scripts and logs. FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 for infinite looping and -re for reading file input at its native frame rate for real-time output; see the FFmpeg command-line documentation.
The example’s -g 60 sets a 60-frame GOP: at the specified 30 fps, that is a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its current guidance also recommends H.264 and constant bitrate (CBR) for RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings. The example’s -b:v 4M sets a target video bitrate, but by itself does not guarantee a particular picture quality.

Match output settings to the file and connection
The sample uses 720p-class settings only if the input is 720p; it does not upscale a lower-resolution file to 720p. YouTube lists 2–6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. The sample’s 4 Mbps sits within that range, but choose settings your upload connection can sustain reliably and check YouTube’s current bitrate table for your intended resolution and frame rate. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
-r 30asks the encoder for 30 fps output. If the source has a different frame rate, test the result and adjust rather than assuming this setting suits every file.-pix_fmt yuv420pselects a widely compatible pixel format. If your source has unusual dimensions, frame rate, or encoding, validate the output with a test stream before relying on it.- The example re-encodes video with
libx264and audio with AAC. Encoding continuously consumes computer resources; the sources cited here do not establish minimum CPU or memory requirements for a given machine. - Use a representative section of the actual program, including motion and audio, when testing. A static image or silent segment will not expose all problems.
Start the broadcast and verify it in YouTube
- Run the command and watch FFmpeg’s output for errors. Keep the host computer awake and connected while the stream is running.
- Open Live Control Room and wait for YouTube to detect the incoming signal. Check the preview, stream health, and any warnings or messages before starting the public broadcast.
- Listen to the audio and inspect moving scenes, transitions, and the loop point. YouTube recommends testing representative audio and movement, running a connection speed test, and monitoring stream health during the broadcast.
- When you want to end the broadcast, stop FFmpeg so it stops sending content. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe ending the stream by stopping the encoder’s output.
Preflight checklist for a devotional loop
- The channel meets YouTube’s live-stream eligibility requirements.
- You have permission for the video, devotional recording or performance, and visual artwork used.
- The file plays correctly from beginning to end, and the loop transition is acceptable.
- The server URL and stream key are current, private, and entered correctly.
- The host computer will remain on, and the internet connection has enough reliable upload capacity for the chosen settings.
- A test confirms intelligible audio, expected motion, a stable preview, and healthy stream status in Live Control Room.
Troubleshoot common failures
YouTube does not detect the stream
Check that FFmpeg is still running, the destination uses the server URL and key from this stream, and there are no typing errors or extra spaces. Confirm that the channel is eligible to go live and that the ingest URL is current.

The stream connects but looks unstable or reports health warnings
Run a connection speed test and compare the actual upload capacity with the chosen bitrate. Reduce the output bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain it, then test again while monitoring Live Control Room. YouTube recommends a reliable quality setting rather than assuming a bitrate alone will ensure quality.
Video or audio fails to encode
Confirm that the installed FFmpeg build supports libx264 and AAC, and that the input file can be decoded. Try a short test with the same file and settings. If your file has unusual properties, inspect or convert it before using it for a continuous broadcast.

The stream stops unexpectedly
Check FFmpeg’s last error, the computer’s power and sleep settings, and the network connection. This local workflow depends on the host process and connection remaining active; restarting FFmpeg may be necessary after an interruption. Do not assume the under-12-hour archive note means YouTube will automatically restart a stopped broadcast.
