To avoid audio clipping when streaming binaural beats on YouTube Live, preserve the intended left/right stereo channels, lower the source and OBS levels until peaks stay below digital full scale, and place an OBS Limiter last in the audio filter chain. Then test a representative recording and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before broadcasting. YouTube’s stereo encoder guidance is AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps.
1. Keep the binaural-beat source in stereo
In OBS, use stereo audio and check that both left and right meters move while the program plays. Confirm that the source contains the channel differences you intend to send, and do not enable mono downmix in the streaming path if those separate left/right signals are needed. OBS displays the channel assignments for stereo sources and provides downmix as a separate option; it does not verify that the source file itself has the intended content.
This is a routing recommendation for preserving the program signal, not a claim about binaural-beat science or listener effects.
2. Set levels before adding a limiter
- Start at the source. Play the loudest part of the actual program and check its playback or output level.
- Check the operating-system mixer. Make sure its output level is not driving the signal too high before OBS receives it.
- Watch OBS’s peak meter as you adjust the fader. OBS explains that audio above 0 dBFS in the final stream or recording can produce clipping distortion. Lower the signal upstream rather than depending on the limiter to correct an already excessive level.
OBS’s mixer documentation describes -9 dBFS as its “Permitted Maximum Level” reference. The margin accounts for possible meter discrepancies and alignment differences across equipment; it is a conservative reference, not a YouTube loudness target.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Add an OBS Limiter as a peak ceiling
- In OBS, open the source’s Filters.
- Add the Limiter audio filter after the other audio filters.
- Play the loudest part of the program and check the meters and the sound while adjusting the threshold as needed.
OBS says the Limiter prevents peaks above 0 dB that can cause clipping and distortion, and recommends placing it last in the filter chain. Its documented defaults are a -6.00 dB threshold and 60 ms release. Those are software defaults, not a universal mix prescription: listen to the result and adjust for your material instead of treating them as mastering settings.
If you prepare a source file in Audacity, its Limiter’s default output is -1 dB, leaving headroom below full scale before lossy encoding. Source-file processing does not replace checking the live OBS chain and the final encoded stream.

4. Set YouTube’s stereo audio encoder values
YouTube’s Live encoder guidance for RTMP/RTMPS lists AAC or MP3 audio, a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo, and 128 kbps audio bitrate for stereo. These are audio settings; do not confuse them with YouTube’s separate video bitrate recommendations.
Choose video settings to suit your visual and available upload bandwidth, then test the full stream. YouTube recommends leaving 20% room against available outbound upload bandwidth.

5. Preview, record, and listen before going live
- Play audio representative of the actual broadcast, including its loudest passages.
- In OBS, confirm both left and right meters are active and watch the peak indicators.
- Listen at the device and again through OBS. Headphones connected to a headphone output or monitor jack can help you check the signal.
- Record a normal session and listen to the recording before going live.
- Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and review stream-health indicators and messages before starting the broadcast.
During the live stream, continue watching audio/video stream health and OBS peak indicators. OBS’s top meter indicator retains the loudest level for 20 seconds, which can help reveal a recent peak. A local recording checks the local signal path; the YouTube preview and live stream let you check the encoded delivery as well.
Troubleshoot clipping and missing stereo
| Symptom | Likely point to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS peaks or the recording sounds distorted | Source or operating-system level may already be too high; a downstream fader or limiter cannot undo clipping that has occurred earlier. | Lower the source or output level first, then check OBS’s meter again with the loudest passage. |
| The signal reaches a peak above 0 dB in the final stream or recording | The processed output is reaching digital full scale. | Reduce gain and use a Limiter last in the chain as a peak ceiling; verify the result by recording and listening. |
| Only one side of the stereo program appears active | The source content or channel routing may not carry the intended signal on both sides. | Check the source’s left/right assignments and OBS meters. Confirm the source itself contains the channel differences you expect. |
| The intended left/right differences disappear | A mono downmix may be enabled somewhere in the path. | Check OBS audio settings and the source route; avoid mono downmix when the program requires separate left/right signals. |
| Local playback sounds right but the YouTube stream does not | The encoded stream path may differ from local monitoring. | Check the Live Control Room preview, stream-health messages, and a representative test recording before relying on the live output. |
| A limiter is active but the sound remains harsh or distorted | The input may be clipping before it reaches the limiter, or the signal may be pushed too hard. | Lower the source and upstream levels, then listen again. Keep the limiter last; it is a safety ceiling, not a replacement for sensible gain staging. |
