You can run a devotional-song loop as a YouTube Live broadcast by using an encoder such as OBS on a computer, or a hosted service built for continuous streaming. First confirm the channel is eligible for live streaming, then clear the rights to every song and recording, configure the stream, and test it before going live. A bhajan’s devotional or traditional character does not by itself make it copyright-free.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible to go live. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must have had no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16. Check the live-stream status in YouTube Studio and confirm current requirements at YouTube’s live-streaming help page.
- A streaming method: an encoder running on your computer, or a hosted service that operates the stream in the cloud.
- Permission for both the musical works and the particular sound recordings in your playlist to be broadcast live online from your channel in the relevant territories.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the chosen video settings, plus a way to monitor stream health.
For a repeatable prerecorded loop, an encoder workflow is generally more suitable than assuming that mobile live streaming is the right production method. YouTube describes encoders as offering more control and customisation than simple mobile or webcam streams: YouTube encoder guidance.
Clear music rights before making the playlist
A song’s composition and lyrics, and the specific recording you plan to play, can involve different rights. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider is responsible for having the necessary rights for live content, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants, and for applicable territory requirements. Read the YouTube livestream terms.
For Indian musical works and associated lyrics, IPRS describes performing rights that include making works available by broadcasting and transmission. It is a relevant place to ask about musical-work licensing, but an IPRS licence should not be assumed to clear the sound recording, every rights holder, or a particular YouTube use. Ask IPRS and the recording owner or other rights holders what permissions apply to your exact repertoire, channel, territory and live use: IPRS licensing.

Check every track, not just the playlist title
- Keep a record of the permission or licence for each composition and recording.
- Confirm that the permission covers live online broadcasting from the intended YouTube channel and the territories where the stream will be available.
- Do not infer permission from a song being devotional, described as traditional, offered as a “free download,” or credited in your description. YouTube defines safe music as music in the public domain or music for which you have permission from the copyright owner: YouTube’s guidance on finding safe music.
Allow for Content ID checks
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can trigger a warning or placeholder, and continued use may interrupt or terminate a stream. If you have a licence, YouTube advises asking the content owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a licence alone may not prevent an automated interruption. An archived live stream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Creator Music is not a workaround for live-loop rights: YouTube says it does not support licensing live content, and its Creator Music licensing and revenue-sharing terms are for eligible long-form uploads rather than live streams or Shorts. Its availability and catalogue rules can change, so check the current Creator Music FAQ.

Set up a local loop with OBS
OBS is free, open-source encoder software. Its help page says it can be used for commercial purposes and has no watermark or usage limitations: OBS Help. You still need a computer, network connection and running OBS process for the local method to stay live.
- Prepare the media. Assemble only tracks for which you have the necessary rights. Put the files in the desired order and create a playlist or media source in OBS that repeats them. Test transitions and audio levels with the actual files you will stream.
- Enable YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube may require first-time live access to be enabled before you can broadcast; verify current eligibility and any waiting period in Studio.
- Create or select the stream. In Live Control Room, set the title, description, visibility and other stream details. Choose whether to create an event or use a reusable stream setup according to how you plan to operate the channel.
- Copy the stream key securely. Copy the stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room into OBS under Settings > Stream, selecting YouTube as the service or entering the server and key as directed by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Configure OBS output and video. In Settings > Output, use a supported encoder, constant bitrate (CBR), and an audio codec such as AAC. In Settings > Video, select a resolution and frame rate that fit the media and stable upload available. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion, a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), and a stable bitrate appropriate to the connection.
- Use YouTube’s current bitrate table as a starting point. YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations include 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, and 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are recommendations, not a guarantee of quality; use the current encoder settings table and choose settings your measured upload can sustain reliably. YouTube’s current guidance also lists H.265 and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS and AAC or MP3 audio; confirm the latest supported settings there.
- Run an end-to-end test. Test the complete OBS-to-YouTube path with representative video and audio before announcing the stream. YouTube recommends checking upload speed, testing before going live, and watching stream health and messages. Start the broadcast from OBS, confirm that Live Control Room receives a stable signal, then monitor Studio for warnings while live.
- Keep the local operation running. Leave the computer awake, OBS open and connected to the internet for as long as the stream must remain live. Configure the playlist to repeat and check the stream periodically rather than assuming a local process or home connection will never fail.
Choose between running it locally and hosting it
| Approach | Who operates the stream | Control | Music rights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local encoder such as OBS | Your computer, internet connection and encoder process must keep running. | Encoder workflows offer more customisation and control than simple mobile or webcam streams, according to YouTube. | Does not provide music rights or bypass Content ID. |
| Hosted 24/7 service | The service operates the continuous stream; check its current service terms and guarantees directly. | Depends on the service and its current features and terms. | Does not provide music rights or bypass Content ID. |
For either route, check current costs, support and continuity terms before choosing. The sources cited here do not establish a numeric cost or reliability comparison between operating a local setup and using a hosted service.

If you archive a live stream, it can receive copyright claims after the broadcast ends, so decide whether to keep an archive with that possibility in mind. Creator Music does not license live use. Monetization is also not automatic: YouTube’s channel monetization policy expects original and authentic content and says repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy. Copyright rules apply separately. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and do not assume that repeating a bhajan playlist will qualify for monetization.

Troubleshooting common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, live access and Studio notices for restrictions. Confirm the current eligibility rules, including YouTube’s stated requirement for no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- YouTube shows no encoder signal: Verify that OBS is using the correct YouTube service/server and current stream key, then check the encoder connection and Live Control Room. If you reset the stream key, update it in OBS.
- The stream buffers or stream health is poor: Run an upload speed test, lower the bitrate or resolution to a sustainable level, and test again. A bitrate that exceeds reliable upload capacity can destabilize the stream.
- The broadcast is interrupted by a copyright notice: Stop using the matched material until the rights and claim are resolved. If you already have permission, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting; do not assume that credit or a licence automatically prevents automated matching.
- The playlist plays incorrectly or goes silent: Test the complete playlist in OBS before broadcasting, check the media source’s repeat behavior and audio meters, and monitor the live preview after going live.
- The live stream works but monetization is unavailable: Technical ability to stream does not establish monetization eligibility. Review YouTube’s originality and authenticity policies and assess the channel’s content separately from copyright clearance.
Useful checks before you go live
- Channel eligibility and live access are confirmed in YouTube Studio.
- Every composition and recording has documented permission for the intended live online use.
- Any relevant Content ID rights holder has been asked about allowlisting.
- The playlist, audio levels, video settings and loop behavior have been tested end to end.
- The stream key is private, the bitrate fits measured upload capacity, and someone or a service will monitor the stream.
- Archiving and monetization expectations are decided separately from the technical setup.
