You can stream a prerecorded video to YouTube Live from a Mumbai Amazon Lightsail instance by running an encoder on the instance and sending its output to the event’s YouTube ingest URL with the stream key. For a scheduled event, start the encoder, check YouTube’s preview, then select Go live in Live Control Room. The instance is the encoder host; viewers watch the YouTube event.

Before you set up the instance

Check that your channel can go live

YouTube’s current getting-started guidance says live streaming requires a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a creator aged at least 16. Confirm live streaming is available on your channel before preparing the server: YouTube live-streaming eligibility.

Choose the source file and host with capacity in mind

Put the video on the Lightsail instance, or make it accessible to the encoder running there. The instance must have enough CPU to encode the video and enough stable outbound bandwidth to send the stream. Lightsail bundles specify vCPU, memory, SSD and data-transfer allowances, but the available sources do not establish a particular Mumbai plan size, price or performance result as suitable for a given video. AWS recommends EC2 for consistently high-CPU applications such as video encoding. Test with your actual file and settings rather than assuming a Lightsail size will sustain them.

Encoding demand depends on factors such as codec, resolution, frame rate, filters and hardware acceleration. If the instance cannot maintain the chosen output, reduce the resolution or bitrate, simplify processing, or move the workload to a more suitable compute service. AWS explains the distinction in its Lightsail FAQ.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Create the YouTube event and protect its stream key

  1. Open YouTube Studio. Select Create > Go Live, then create a stream or open the scheduled event you want to use.
  2. Copy the ingest details. In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key for that event. The key acts like a password for the encoder; do not share it or put it in a public script or repository. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the URL-and-key workflow.
  3. Use RTMPS when supported. If you think the key has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.

Install and configure an encoder on Lightsail

Connect to your Linux or Unix instance over SSH and install an encoder suitable for the operating system and release you chose. Package names and installation commands vary, so use the instructions for that distribution. AWS permits installing software on Lightsail instances; its instance documentation covers connecting to and managing them.

FFmpeg can read a media file and send encoded output to a streaming destination, but an exact end-to-end command and installation procedure depend on the file, FFmpeg build and event settings. Do not treat a generic command as verified for every instance. Configure your encoder to read the source video, use the event’s YouTube ingest URL and stream key, and send output in a format YouTube accepts. FFmpeg’s command-line documentation describes its general input-to-output model.

Settings that affect compatibility and stability

  • Video and audio: YouTube’s general RTMP/RTMPS recommendations include H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio.
  • Bitrate: Use constant bitrate encoding where possible. YouTube lists 10 Mbps as its recommended H.264 video bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps; this is a recommendation for that format, not a guarantee that a Lightsail instance or network connection can sustain it.
  • Frame rate and keyframes: YouTube supports up to 60 fps and recommends a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
  • Match the source sensibly: Keeping the source resolution and frame rate avoids unnecessary changes, but lower them if the instance or connection cannot hold a stable stream.
  • Leave bandwidth headroom: YouTube recommends upload capacity at least 20% above the total stream bitrate. Measure stable outbound throughput rather than relying on a short peak.

Use YouTube’s recommended encoder settings and streaming tips as the reference for the event and encoder version you are using.

Start the stream and take the event live

  1. Start the encoder with the video file and the event’s ingest details.
  2. In Live Control Room, wait for the event preview and verify that the picture moves and audio is present. Check stream health before proceeding.
  3. For a scheduled event, select Go live after the preview is ready. Starting the encoder sends the feed; it does not necessarily publish the scheduled event to viewers by itself.
  4. Monitor playback and stream health while the video runs. When finished, stop the encoder and end the event in YouTube Studio.

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on automatic archiving for a stream that runs 12 hours or longer; see the encoder workflow guidance.

Which Lightsail port should you open?

For this publishing flow, the instance sends an outbound connection to YouTube. Lightsail’s instance firewall filters incoming connections to the instance’s public IP; AWS says it allows outbound traffic by default. You ordinarily do not need to open an inbound RTMP port to send a stream to YouTube. Avoid exposing SSH broadly, and restrict its allowed source addresses where practical. Remember that IPv4 and IPv6 firewall rules are separate. Details are in AWS’s Lightsail firewall documentation.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • YouTube does not show a preview: Check that the encoder is running, the correct event’s ingest URL and key are in use, and the channel is eligible for live streaming. If the key may be wrong or exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
  • Preview appears but video or audio is missing: Confirm the selected input file is readable and that the encoder is sending supported video and audio formats. Check the preview before taking a scheduled event live.
  • The stream disconnects or becomes unstable: Compare the total stream bitrate with stable outbound throughput and leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Check instance CPU use as well: a host struggling to encode may not keep up. Lower resolution, frame rate or bitrate and test again.
  • The instance cannot sustain encoding: Test using the actual file and intended settings. Encoding load varies by codec, resolution, frame rate, filters and hardware acceleration. Consider a lower-complexity output or a compute service suited to sustained high CPU; AWS identifies EC2 as its recommendation for consistently high-CPU video encoding.
  • You cannot connect to an inbound RTMP port: This workflow ordinarily does not require one. The encoder publishes outbound to YouTube, while the Lightsail firewall governs inbound access.

Keep the content eligible for YouTube Live

Having a working encoder does not grant rights to the video, music or other material in the file. Use content you own or have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s copyright rules before broadcasting. YouTube also applies its channel and content policies to livestreams. For a practical preflight, use StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist; it does not replace YouTube’s policies or legal advice.
