You can keep prerecorded lessons streaming on YouTube with your computer off by moving playback and encoding to a cloud service—or by using a standalone encoder that plays scheduled video. For most creators who want a continuous lesson channel, a cloud service is the simpler fit: upload lessons, connect your YouTube stream, and let the service send the feed. This is a prerecorded video delivered as a livestream, not a live teaching session; you still need to configure the YouTube stream and check that playback is working.
Choose how the lessons will play
The key requirement is that playback and encoding happen somewhere other than your computer. YouTube’s encoder directory lists cloud-based services for continuous prerecorded streaming, including Gyre and Upstream. Upstream describes a cloud stream that can continue with the computer off. A physical device is another option: YouTube’s directory says AJA HELO Plus can schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live through PlayToStream without a computer. Directory listings are not endorsements; YouTube notes that listed products are not made by YouTube. YouTube’s encoder directory describes these options.
Cloud-hosted playback
A cloud service stores or accesses the lesson files and sends their video feed to YouTube. Before choosing one, verify its current plan requirements, stream-duration cap, file and storage limits, playlist behavior, interruption recovery, and how it creates or connects to the YouTube event. The sources establish different provider workflows, not a uniform price comparison.
OneStream Live’s documented 24/7 workflow
OneStream Live says its 24/7 feature is for YouTube only, requires its Enterprise plan, and allows a maximum duration of 30 days. Its help article describes selecting videos from a device, its library, or cloud storage, then scheduling a duration in days. Standalone encoder hardware
AJA HELO Plus is a physical encoder option for creators who prefer dedicated hardware. YouTube’s directory describes its PlayToStream feature as scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. Check current stock, supported media and storage, unattended operation, remote monitoring, and cost with the manufacturer or seller; the directory does not establish those details.
Get the YouTube channel ready
- Verify the channel and check eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is the channel’s first livestream, enable live streaming in advance: YouTube says initial activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- Prepare the lesson files and sequence. Upload the recordings to the service or use a supported storage source, then arrange the order if playlists or sequencing are supported. Check transitions and audio between lessons during a test rather than assuming every provider handles them the same way.
- Create or schedule the YouTube stream. YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room supports scheduling. A scheduled event can help viewers find the stream and receive reminders. Set its title, description, audience, and privacy to match the lessons and intended viewers.
- Connect the service or encoder. YouTube encoder workflows use a YouTube Live server URL and stream key. Enter these only in the provider’s private configuration; treat the key as a password and never expose it in public screenshots, documents, or chat.
- Preview before relying on the stream. For a scheduled encoder workflow, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then select “Go live” when prompted. Check picture, sound, and lesson order, and monitor stream quality. YouTube recommends monitoring encoder broadcasts; a setup guide is available in its live-streaming tips.
Plan around YouTube’s replay limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not guarantee a complete archive for a longer uninterrupted broadcast, so do not promise viewers that a continuous stream exceeding that duration will be available in full as a replay. If replays matter, check YouTube’s current guidance and ask the provider whether it can segment or restart the broadcast. Continuous playback and a complete replay are separate requirements.

Keep the lessons suitable for a public stream
Confirm that you have the rights needed to stream every lesson, including any music, clips, images, or other material embedded in it. Choose the audience and privacy settings deliberately, and test the stream before announcing a lesson schedule. A cloud or hardware encoder moves playback off your computer; it does not remove the need to review content, configure the YouTube event, or verify that viewers are receiving the intended lesson.
Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a livestream: check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first broadcast, allow up to 24 hours after enabling live streaming for activation.
- YouTube shows no preview: confirm that the provider is connected to the correct YouTube event and server URL, and that the stream key is entered correctly. Recheck the private key field without sharing the key publicly.
- The stream starts but a lesson does not play as expected: check the file selection, sequence, and provider’s supported storage sources. Run a test stream and inspect the transition between lessons, picture, and audio.
- The stream is live but the replay is incomplete or missing: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed full archive of a longer uninterrupted stream. Use a shorter event or ask the provider about segmentation or restart options if a replay is essential.
- The broadcast stops unexpectedly: check the provider’s stream status and its recovery or restart controls, then verify the YouTube event and preview again. Do not assume a service feature guarantees uninterrupted playback; test the workflow before depending on it for scheduled lessons.
