The encoder can be software, standalone hardware, or a cloud service; for a continuous stream, confirm that it supports looping, unattended operation, and recovery if the feed stops. Before going live, enable livestreaming on your channel, configure the video feed, test it in YouTube’s Live Control Room, and clear the rights and permissions for everything shown or heard.
1. Make sure your channel can go live
- Verify your YouTube channel and enable live streaming. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check the channel’s live-streaming eligibility and confirm it has had no livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s getting-started guidance says streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance and its live-streaming restrictions information.
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Labels can change, so follow the current Studio prompts. Treat the key like a password: it lets the encoder send a feed to your channel.
2. Choose how to play and send the walkthrough
YouTube accepts live feeds from encoders, which can be software or standalone hardware. For a prerecorded tour, the important question is whether the chosen tool can play the recording or playlist continuously and restart reliably—not simply whether it can send a live feed. YouTube’s encoder page lists software and hardware options, including tools described for continuous or prerecorded streams; listings are options to investigate, not a guarantee of a specific looping workflow. YouTube says the verified products are not made by YouTube. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Software on a computer: Can avoid dedicated encoder hardware, but the computer, playback software, and network must remain available for the stream to continue. Confirm looping and automatic restart behavior in the software documentation.
- Standalone hardware encoder: A separate device can send the feed to YouTube. YouTube lists the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K as a verified hardware encoder; the cited listing does not establish that it is necessary or specially designed for looping prerecorded tours.
- Cloud automation: A cloud service can play uploaded recordings without a home computer staying on. Check that the service supports YouTube ingestion, playlists or looping, monitoring, and recovery for the run time you need.
Compare options by loop and restart behavior, RTMPS support, upload reliability and failover, monitoring or alerts, and cost. YouTube’s verified list is a starting point; verify current capabilities directly with the vendor.
3. Set the video feed and network capacity
For a straightforward H.264 walkthrough, YouTube recommends these video bitrates. They are platform recommendations, not a guarantee of image quality for a particular recording.

| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
In the encoder, use constant bitrate (CBR) and set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its supported codec and protocol options depend on configuration, so match the encoder’s output to the current YouTube settings rather than assuming every codec works with every protocol. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for current guidance.
For a local encoder, YouTube recommends upload bandwidth headroom of 20% above the stream’s bitrate. For a 6 Mbps video feed, for example, that means planning for at least 7.2 Mbps of available upload capacity for the stream; leave additional capacity if other devices use the connection or if you send another feed. YouTube’s guidance and examples are at the encoder settings page and its streaming tips.

4. Test the complete loop before leaving it unattended
- Use a representative recording with the actual audio, movement, and image detail you plan to stream. Verify the encoder is set to loop the file or playlist and determine what it does when playback ends or the encoder reconnects.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before making the stream public or scheduled. Confirm the right video and audio are arriving, the live page is correct, and stream health is acceptable.
- Let the test run through a full playback cycle. Check whether playback restarts as expected, and whether audio and video remain in sync.
- For a continuous run, monitor stream health and arrange a way to notice an outage. Ask the provider how reconnection and playback recovery work; a successful first start does not by itself establish that a particular setup will run unattended indefinitely.
YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement, checking the Live Control Room preview, and monitoring stream health and quality. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
5. Clear the footage, music, and property permissions
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the streamer to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of the live content, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws. A recording being your own—or being uploaded to YouTube—does not by itself establish that every person, space, image, or soundtrack in it is cleared for a public livestream. Read YouTube’s terms and check the permissions that apply to the actual recording.

For a property in Canada, obtain appropriate owner and occupant permissions and check the rules that apply in the province or territory where it is located. Requirements can depend on the property, people shown, how the recording was made, and how it will be used. The available YouTube guidance does not settle Canadian or provincial privacy, tenancy, real-estate marketing, or consent questions, so do not treat platform permission as a substitute for checking those obligations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a phone to keep a prerecorded property tour live all day?
A phone would need a playback-and-encoder workflow that supports looping, sustained operation, and YouTube’s live-feed settings. The encoder method above is the relevant setup; verify loop and restart behavior with the specific app or service.
Does YouTube guarantee that a listed encoder will loop a video forever?
No. YouTube’s encoder list identifies compatible or verified encoder options, but does not guarantee indefinite looping for a specific product or setup.
