You can broadcast a prerecorded showroom video as a YouTube Live stream by running an encoder on a VPS, then sending the file to YouTube’s ingest server with the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. A VPS can keep the encoder running without your home computer, but its advertised port speed does not prove it can sustain your chosen bitrate or encode the video smoothly. Test the exact server, file and settings before relying on it.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do this in advance. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- A prerecorded video file that you have the rights to broadcast, including its music and any third-party material or identifiable people.
- A VPS with enough CPU capacity to run your chosen encoder and enough sustained outbound bandwidth and monthly traffic allowance for the stream.
- An encoder installed on the VPS. YouTube describes encoders as software or hardware that converts video to a digital format for streaming; OBS is free, open-source software. A command-line encoder such as FFmpeg may suit a headless VPS, but the exact command depends on the file and server and has not been tested here.
No specific Indian VPS provider or plan is established here. Compare the server’s India location, actual CPU performance under your intended encoding load, sustained outbound capacity, traffic limits and total monthly cost rather than choosing on an advertised port-speed figure alone.
Set up a YouTube Live stream
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube, enable live streaming for your channel and allow time for first-time activation, which may take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder workflow. YouTube’s guide to creating a stream with an encoder covers the platform setup.
- Copy the ingest details. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not expose it in public scripts, screenshots or logs.
- Choose an ingest protocol. Prefer RTMPS when the encoder supports it. Google documents RTMPS ingestion over TLS on port 443; the connection also needs the correct server hostname for TLS SNI authentication. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion documentation.
- Configure the encoder and select the video. Set the file as the video source, configure output settings, then start sending the stream to YouTube. The VPS runs the encoder; YouTube supplies the stream URL and key.
- Preview before going live. Wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room and check stream health. For a scheduled event, use Live Control Room to start the live broadcast once the preview is ready.
Choose an output profile that the VPS can sustain
For an H.264 starting profile, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds between keyframes and supports up to 60 fps. Its current encoder guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, lists these H.264 bitrate figures:
| Output profile | YouTube-listed minimum | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can deliver them continuously. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate and resolution guidance for the current settings. H.265 and AV1 are also listed by YouTube, but use H.264 for a straightforward baseline unless you have confirmed that your encoder and chosen ingest setup support another codec.

Decide between 720p30 and 1080p30
Choose based on the detail viewers need to see in the showroom footage and the VPS’s sustained upload and encoding capacity. A higher resolution can show more detail, but it calls for a higher bitrate and may demand more from the server. If the VPS struggles, test a lower profile rather than assuming its advertised network speed will be available continuously.
Choose RTMPS unless you have a reason to use another protocol
RTMPS is the straightforward secure choice for an ordinary encoder stream. YouTube also documents HLS and DASH as encrypted alternatives that support some codecs unavailable over RTMP or RTMPS, but they typically add latency. Review Google’s ingestion protocol comparison before choosing one of those alternatives.

Test the VPS before scheduling a broadcast
- Check upload capacity. Run an upload speed test from the server or use an equivalent check of its outbound connection. The measured result should leave room above your target stream bitrate; a single test still does not certify sustained performance.
- Test the actual video and settings. Send a preflight stream using the intended file and output profile. Include audio and movement similar to the showroom video. YouTube specifically recommends testing with similar motion and audio before the live stream.
- Monitor Live Control Room. Watch stream health during transmission and review any warnings or errors. Do not treat a successful connection as proof that the whole stream will remain stable.
- Adjust and retest. If the picture stalls or stream health degrades, investigate both network throughput and CPU load. Lowering bitrate may reduce network demand, but it can reduce image quality and will not necessarily fix an encoder that cannot keep pace. Retest after every change.
YouTube recommends testing and monitoring; no VPS provider or plan is verified here as capable of sustaining a particular profile. Its encoder settings explain what to send, not what an individual server can reliably deliver.
Rights, stream keys and repeated broadcasts
Protect the stream key
The stream key connects the encoder to your YouTube broadcast. Keep it private and out of publicly accessible scripts, screenshots and logs. If it is exposed, replace it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the new key.

Confirm broadcast rights
Technical ingest success does not establish that you have permission to broadcast the recording. Check rights for the showroom footage, music, logos or other third-party material, and any identifiable people before going live.
Do not assume a loop is automatically approved or monetizable
A scheduled showroom broadcast and a continuously repeated 24/7 stream are different operational and editorial choices. Technical setup alone does not establish that a repeated or reused-content strategy complies with YouTube policies or qualifies for monetization. For a scheduled event, YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; see its encoder workflow guidance.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Incorrect stream URL or key, live streaming not enabled, or a connection issue | Confirm channel activation, copy the current URL and key from Live Control Room, and check the encoder’s connection settings. |
| Stream health degrades or video stalls | Insufficient sustained outbound throughput or server load | Check actual server upload capacity and CPU use while encoding. Test at a lower output profile, then verify again with the same source file. |
| Encoder cannot connect over RTMPS | Incorrect endpoint or TLS hostname handling | Verify that the encoder supports RTMPS and is using the documented endpoint and hostname handling; Google documents RTMPS over port 443. |
| Video is unstable despite adequate network results | Encoding cannot keep pace with playback, or the test did not represent the real source | Test the intended file with similar movement and audio, inspect CPU load and stream health, and retest after changing the profile. |
| Broadcast is interrupted after a key is exposed | Another person may be able to use the key | Replace the key in Live Control Room, update the encoder and keep the new key out of public scripts and logs. |
