For an Intel Arc GPU streaming a playlist to YouTube Live through OBS, choose settings from YouTube’s ingest recommendations for your resolution and codec: use CBR, set keyframes every 2 seconds, and keep the interval at 4 seconds or less. At 1080p60, YouTube recommends 12 Mbps for AV1 or HEVC and 17 Mbps for H.264. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not performance guarantees for a particular Arc card; test the complete stream and check YouTube’s stream health before relying on it.

Recommended YouTube Live encoder settings

YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 over RTMP or RTMPS, recommends RTMPS, and supports frame rates up to 60 fps. Use the bitrate for the codec and resolution you actually select.

Setting Recommended value
Protocol RTMPS recommended; RTMP also listed
Video codec H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1
Frame rate Up to 60 fps
Rate control CBR
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds

Source: YouTube Help: Live encoder settings. The live settings page does not show a publication or update year.

Video bitrate by resolution and codec

Output AV1 or HEVC H.264
1080p60 4 Mbps minimum; 12 Mbps recommended 6 Mbps minimum; 17 Mbps recommended
1080p30 4 Mbps minimum; 10 Mbps recommended 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended

These are YouTube’s published ingest values, not a measurement of an Intel Arc encoder. If your upload connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate reliably, choose a lower output or bitrate rather than assuming the GPU can compensate for network limits. For resolutions other than the two shown, consult YouTube’s current settings table.

Audio and color

  • For RTMP/RTMPS audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3. Its guidance recommends 128 Kbps for stereo or 384 Kbps for 5.1; 5.1 is supported only with AAC. The listed sample rates are 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1.
  • For SDR, use Rec. 709. YouTube recommends HEVC for HDR and says AV1 is not supported for HDR.
  • For AV1 at 3840 × 2160 or above, YouTube specifies at least two tile columns.

Audio and color recommendations are from the same YouTube Live encoder settings page.

Choosing AV1, HEVC, or H.264 with Intel Arc

OBS release notes document Intel AV1 encoder support for Arc GPUs on Windows in OBS Studio 29.0. OBS Studio 29.1 added AV1 and HEVC streaming over Enhanced RTMP; those release notes described YouTube support as a beta feature at that time. These are version-specific compatibility facts, not a guarantee that a given codec is available in every current OBS build, operating system, driver, or Arc model.

Start by checking which hardware encoders your installed OBS version exposes, then confirm YouTube accepts the selected ingest configuration. If AV1 or HEVC is unavailable or unreliable in your setup, H.264 is a reasonable fallback; use the H.264 bitrate row for your output. OBS’s release notes describe features in those releases, not current compatibility for every configuration: OBS Studio 29.0 release notes and OBS Studio 29.1 release notes.

Intel lists OBS as a supported Stream Assist application on eligible Arc systems, with an 11th-, 12th-, or 13th-generation Intel CPU and discrete Arc GPU required for Stream Assist. Stream Assist support is separate from a general guarantee that AV1 streaming will work in every OBS and YouTube setup. See Intel’s Stream Assist information.

Hardware encoding can move encoding work from the CPU to a specialized GPU component, but image quality varies by encoder generation. OBS discusses Intel Quick Sync support on Windows and Linux in its hardware encoding overview; that general guidance does not establish that Arc AV1 streaming works on every platform.

Configure and validate the OBS stream

The exact OBS menus and playlist-source controls depend on your installed version and operating system. The sources cited here establish the ingest values, but not a specific playlist source setup or loop procedure. Apply the values to the streaming encoder controls available in your OBS installation, then validate the actual output.

  1. Choose the output resolution and frame rate. Use the resolution and frame rate you intend viewers to receive, up to YouTube’s listed maximum of 60 fps. Select the matching bitrate recommendation from YouTube’s table.
  2. Select an available encoder. Choose AV1, HEVC, or H.264 only if it appears as an option in your installed OBS and works with your driver and operating system. For Arc AV1 or HEVC, check the relevant OBS version notes rather than assuming availability from the GPU name alone.
  3. Set rate control to CBR. Enter the recommended bitrate for the chosen codec and output. Treat the published figure as an ingest target, not proof that your internet connection or hardware is delivering it consistently.
  4. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Do not exceed YouTube’s stated maximum interval of 4 seconds.
  5. Set audio and color to match the programme. Use the applicable AAC or MP3 audio settings and Rec. 709 for SDR; follow the HDR codec limitation if producing HDR.
  6. Test with the real playlist conditions. Include representative sound and motion, and allow enough time to catch interruptions or changes in content. YouTube specifically advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
  7. Monitor YouTube stream health. Review the stream-health indicator and any messages during the test and event. If health warnings appear, check the actual output bitrate and network stability before changing codecs or assuming an Arc hardware fault.

YouTube’s testing and monitoring guidance is on its live encoder settings page.

Troubleshooting Arc AV1 bitrate problems

OBS reports an unusually low AV1 streaming bitrate

Intel’s support article, last reviewed March 19, 2025, describes an unusually low AV1 streaming bitrate issue in OBS for the Arc A380, A370M, and A350M and says Intel is aware of it. That report is specific to those named models; it should not be generalized to all Arc GPUs. Check OBS’s selected encoder and output bitrate, then compare the delivered stream with YouTube’s health messages. If AV1 remains abnormally low, test a supported alternative such as H.264 and verify its corresponding YouTube bitrate recommendation. See Intel’s OBS AV1 bitrate support article.

Codec option is missing or the stream will not start

  • Confirm that the installed OBS version and operating system support the encoder path you intend to use; the cited OBS compatibility notes are specific to Windows and named releases.
  • Check that the YouTube ingest configuration matches the selected codec and protocol. YouTube recommends RTMPS.
  • Use H.264 as a fallback if the chosen AV1 or HEVC path is not available or is rejected, and set bitrate according to YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for your resolution.

Stream health reports unstable delivery

Compare the stream’s actual output with the configured bitrate and assess whether the connection can sustain it. Test again with the same playlist, audio, and motion rather than relying on a brief idle scene. YouTube recommends matching quality to the connection and reviewing stream-health messages; its bitrate figures are ingest guidance, not a model-specific Arc performance guarantee.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a continuously looping YouTube playlist rather than learning an OBS workflow, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, without re-encoding, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. For India, UPI and cards are available. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
